Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone else is considering putting their heating on yet? I’m so cold tonight - pjs, extra blanket and usual bedding already on x

Yes in a nutshell, it's suddenly turned really cold

APurpleSquirrel · 28/09/2021 23:00

We put it up (it's been on low for a while) today as it was so cold & DS has a cold & feeling poorly.

StrawberryJamSandwiches · 28/09/2021 23:04

Yerp, I did. Was freezing!

Piemam · 28/09/2021 23:05

On for first time since May, smallest one has cold and I just couldn't get warm!

OldTinHat · 28/09/2021 23:19

I've still got my windows open and was so fed up of getting hot at night that I've chucked the duvet on the floor and now just have a sheet. UK in the SE. I blame my age...!

CourgetteGlutTony · 28/09/2021 23:24

No heating here until half term at the earliest. We all have jumpers and there are blankets on the sofa

user1000000000009 · 28/09/2021 23:35

I put mine on today. I don't usually until October but I needed to today.

DramaAlpaca · 28/09/2021 23:35

Ours went on today, we were chilly.

Fluffypastelslippers · 28/09/2021 23:37

No, because we haven't felt cold. If we did we would put it on.

Rookie93 · 28/09/2021 23:58

Not put the heating on yet, but did put the fire on in the front room for a couple of hours earlier this afternoon when it was raining. Now curled up on the sofa under a blanket watching Netflix. Hate having to put the heating on before the end of Oct but this year its so cold.

Notcontent · 29/09/2021 00:12

It felt chilly tonight but I am trying to wait until I start using the heating. My gas bill was so high last winter as we were at home so much and now of course the gas price has rocketed I hate to think what my gas bill will be this winter!!!

AndWhatNext · 29/09/2021 00:14

Turned mine on this evening.

Titsywoo · 29/09/2021 00:17

Not cold enough here in SE and my house is still 20 degrees inside. However I'll be waiting as long as possible as my gas and electric bill has gone up extortionately recently!

SuperStarRose · 29/09/2021 00:18

Did feel a slight chill earlier and DS has put his Oodie on but not cold enough for heating yet.

midsomermurderess · 29/09/2021 00:21

If you are cold, and you can afford it, put it on. There's no need to ask permission of strangers. Or to do that weird British competition about who can let it get the coldest before they turn it on. And no, it doesn't matter what your dad used to say. You are an adult, free to make choices.

MrsPsmalls · 29/09/2021 01:53

Am I doing this wrong? I never 'put the heating on' I have a timed thermostat. If it gets cold enough it turns on all by itself. Today it came on for the first time I think since about April.

Barkingdog · 29/09/2021 03:15

I put it on this afternoon simply because DS and I got soaked to the skin walking home from school. Trying to get our shoes dry for tomorrow!

MrsDThomas · 29/09/2021 06:37

Nope. Kids sit in their rooms anyway with a duvet. I love wrapping up in a blanket, DH complains more about the price of fuel than the next man so for the time being, he can wrap up too. Its not that cold yet

PaperMonster · 29/09/2021 06:57

Really? Is it that cold? I’ve still got the windows permanently open! I’m in NW.

Subbaxeo · 29/09/2021 07:04

I agree-we put it on when we like. The Puritan competitiveness is a weirdly British thing. Maybe it’s a hangover from rationing during and after WW2.

I agree. The competitive who is "well 'ard" posters usually come on to this type of thread to boast that they only put their heating on when it is below freezing.

We have a thermostat set at a comfortable temperature for us so our heating comes on when it is cold regardless of what time of year it is.

TheChosenTwo · 29/09/2021 07:50

Ours is ‘on’ all year round, it only clicks to heat up when the temperature drops below what it’s set to. Ours has been coming on and off over the last few days.
Hate being cold and bundled up in multiple layers at home, I usually wear a tshirt and leggings but don’t want to feel bulky with lots of extras.

starfish4 · 29/09/2021 07:52

We haven't switched ours off - it's set on 18.5c (in one of the coldest rooms in house) - it hasn't come on yet, so obviously not cold enough.

SkiingIsHeaven · 29/09/2021 07:54

My DH put it on! It must have been cold. Normally it is the other way around.

MackenCheese · 29/09/2021 07:56

Just put mine on this morning . We usually try to hold out until October, but it's cold outside and my daughter is off school unwell.
