I'd really love some help please!

It's my husband's 40th birthday soon and we're off to London for the weekend. It's his actual birthday on the Saturday so I'm looking for somewhere special for breakfast and dinner. Does anyone have any recommendations please?Grin

There isn't really a budget as I just want it to be a lovely occasion.

Also if anyone has any recommendations of interesting things to do whilst down there that would be great!

ThanksSmile

Actually, I see The Connaught now has three Michelin stars.

The Wolseley is good for breakfast and nearby if you are staying in Mayfair. It's wow enough at that time of day! I would ask for one of the mezzanine tables. Duck and Waffle is good for breakfast with a view, the food isn't that special for dinner though.

I would go for a sundowner cocktail at the Shard to get the views by day and night, or another skyscraper/rooftop bar.

Coya and Oxo Tower are very good but not very wow. Bob Bob Ricard is fun with the champagne buttons and I would also second Sketch. Amazonico is also good and in Mayfair so stumbling distance home. Hakkasan is a classic if you like Chinese food.

Another vote for Clos Maggiore, beautiful

expatmigrant · 28/09/2021 21:17

If you like somewhere with a good vibe, have a look at Sexy Fish. Very nice cocktails too.
I personally think Bob Bob Ricard has no atmosphere and is overrated.
La Gavroche is good but yes can't book at short notice.

Story in London Bridge could be interesting if you like molecular gastronomy.

underneaththeash · 28/09/2021 21:37

How soon? For a Saturday night in a couple of weeks you'll struggle with availability. You might need to put your dates into open table etc and see what's available.

Ikoyu near Piccadilly ikoyilondon.com

Ate there yesterday - phenomenal (and very different) tasting menu. Read the Time Out review on them

LimitIsUp · 28/09/2021 21:41

Here's the Conde Nast review of Ikoyi www.cntraveler.com/restaurants/london/ikoyi

Chatterboxy · 28/09/2021 21:46

Clos Maggiores, just off Covent Garden is lovely for a special occasion. Supposed to be voted the most romantic restaurant.
We’ve been 3 times now & loved the food.

And this

FrankiesKnuckle · 28/09/2021 21:55

The OP has already been to Clos Maggiore....

But I agree, it is lovely!

weewoman123 · 28/09/2021 22:08

Any of the restaurants in the Shard are great for the atmosphere and food. There are also places in the Walkie Talkie which are nice. As PP said Oxo Tower is nice out on the terrace. Hutong is over rated. The Ivy Brasserie across from it is nice though. Hakkasan is always highly recommended.

catwithflowers · 28/09/2021 22:08

@littleone7 I was about to recommend the Gavroche as we love it there but see that it's booked up (unsurprisingly). They've stopped doing lunches now too which is such as a shame as they were amazing value for money!

Franklin12 · 28/09/2021 22:12

Gordon Ramsey the flagship one in Chelsea.

Franklin12 · 28/09/2021 22:12

Or Murano

Noeuf · 28/09/2021 22:13

Are you wanting posh and/or interesting? Dh and I went to a completely mad place which was full of weird (rude!) art (no under 16s to use the upstairs loos) but also had great food and a decent wine list. Music played with some sort of band (can’t remember much had drunk far too much of the wine list with our friends). I’ll try and Google it. If not, Langhams Palm bit for dinner and or the Wolesley.

How could I forget!

SaltyMagnolia · 28/09/2021 22:19

If money is no object I'd say the Ritz, beautiful room, great service & the most incredible food

Hummingbird80 · 28/09/2021 22:22

L'Escargot in Soho. Brilliant French food and service, and a live pianist so great atmosphere. Make sure you book to sit on the ground floor and not upstairs.

Milkbottlelegs · 28/09/2021 22:26

Gymkhana
Pollen Street Social
Marcus (Wareing)
Alain Ducasse
Galvin Windows (I actually love la chapelle as a venue more but it’s a bit out of the way for you)
Core (would love to try this)
Restaurant Story (really fun place with super interesting food)
Bibendum
Dinner
Sola soho

Sometimes I find very classical restaurants in hotels a bit easier to book. Some people can be a bit snobby about hotel restaurants but there really are some amazing ones in London.

Maybe Chiltern Firehouse for breakfast?

MrPanks · 28/09/2021 22:32

La Petite Maison, Mayfair - fantastic food and service, nice atmosphere
The Ivy - as above, although smaller than I was expecting!
The Wolsey is good for breakfast
The Delaunay is nice for dinner or afternoon tea, but not super special

Daria32 · 28/09/2021 22:34

Is he a Batman/ DC fan??parkrowlondon.co.uk/
And I’d do brunch in the Ivy in the morning

Restaurant story looks absolutely intriguing

littleone7 · 29/09/2021 11:15

Thank you everyone for the recommendations! I'll have a look through them allSmile
