Is there anything you haven't been able to buy today (other than petrol)?

I went in two different supermarkets to buy apples today and there weren't any Confused

No shortage of anything in the supermarkets where I am.

Crunchymum · 28/09/2021 21:55

Apple juice.

More randomly I cannot find a table lamp (just need cheap ones for the kids rooms) I've looked up to £15 and not a single one is on stock in my local Argos its very local hence me looking there

@Poetrypatty

It's bizarre at the moment, as I never know if I'll be able to get all of the ingredients for the meals I plan

One of the things that struck me today is how it's going to become normalised that we won't be able to just go to the shops and get what we want, like we used to. You expect there to be gaps in the shelves now.

exactly - we have very quickly become a society managing without reliable supply chains.

I worry about how much worse it is going to get.

Jigsawprison · 28/09/2021 22:08

Tesco delivery tonight - no parsley, furniture polish, tortilla chips, cauliflower, sparkling flavoured water, pineapple or bananas.
I have a gluten free child who also has a limited diet due to sensory issues and lately have been unable to get several items which is more annoying than any of the items I didn't receive tonight.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 28/09/2021 22:19

I did a shop yesterday and there were certainly more items missing than usual. Mostly just particular varieties or brands rather than none at all.
Sparkling water
Nigella seeds
Baby plum tomatoes (thousands of cherry tomatoes)
Fennel
Any wrapping paper suitable for a boy (seemingly replaced by Christmas things)
Lucozade zero
Green giant sweetcorn
Skimmed milk

None essential but missed by this household!

I’ve been trying to buy bin bags for a few weeks and can only find large ones - trying to avoid buying ones that are far too big for my bin. Also just in the last week, I can’t find boxes of tissues or packs of tissues - we’ve all had the cold that’s going round.

Poetrypatty · 28/09/2021 22:24

Other than the sparkling drinks/water/soda there doesn't seem to be much pattern, other than fresh fruit and veg I think, which has been hit and miss. A lot of things seem to be closer to use by date than they used to be.

Things like baby milk/special diets/calpol/thermometer/ special pet diets and so on that people mentioned must be a worry.

The only thing missing on our Tesco delivery was some salmon fillets, but they were on a good offer so must have run out.

Tangledtresses · 28/09/2021 22:35

The only thing I couldn't find was a particular mouthwash... but that was because they were doing a shelf reshuffle.. our local Tesco seemed to be well stocked.
But the prices have definitely gone up!!

Tonic water, toilet roll and fresh chicken selection was limited.

Somebodylikeyew · 28/09/2021 23:22

The Ocado website had more out of stock than in stock for me this week, had to try multiple brands of nearly everything before i could add one. Never seen it quite like that before.

spudjulia · 28/09/2021 23:31

A ton of Heinz beans! They had the half tins, and some with sausages, but no normal beans.

I don't usually go into the supermarket, I get a delivery each week, but had to pop in for a couple of things. I actually took a little walk round the store because I was so shocked by the half empty shelves. Fruit seemed ok, lots of veg missing. Barely any bread. Tin aisle decimated. Gaps along all the shelves, it was quite unnerving!

StillMedusa · 28/09/2021 23:47

No sparkling water for weeks now.. it's my go to work drink!
No Haywards Traditional pickled onions for months :( Own brand are just not the same!

Malteser71 · 29/09/2021 00:00

I went for a pub lunch today. Lady who seated us told us what wasn’t available. This amounted to 50% of the menu. I thought it was wrong of them to keep seating guests for food.

FrozenoutofCostco · 29/09/2021 00:10

There's plenty of sparkling water in the shops here in my part of North Yorkshire. Perhaps it's regional?

621CustardCream438 · 29/09/2021 00:18

Particular brands of things - so I can buy pasta sauce, but not the usual brand. Or pasta but maybe not my preferred shape. Or toilet roll but only a choice of two kinds and three pack sizes. In many ways I prefer it, it makes life simpler and we don’t need the level of choice we had. No one really needs a choice of a dozen brands and two dozen shapes and six different package sizes of dried pasta.

Only other thing is sometimes meat, but there have been well publicised issues with CO2 and a lack of processing workers so I’m not particularly surprised. So far I’ve always found an acceptable substitute.

dreamofaVWcamper · 29/09/2021 00:36

Lots of "no fizzy pop, sparking water".....I believe this is down to C02 shortage, (work for a brewery and we are feeling it)

ChevreChase · 29/09/2021 00:37

coffee filter papers
bar soap
small/medium bags caster sugar (had to get a 2kg)

Yesterday there was none of the pasta sauce I hoped to buy, or little juices for DS' lunch, and something else that I forget now. I only wanted 5 things and three weren't available. Not a great ratio! Today was a 'proper' shop, so only two missing that I can recall is okay. Fizzy water back in stock after being empty for ages, but very little pasta today.

julieca · 29/09/2021 00:45

Lots of things missing for a few days, but for the last month, I haven't been able to get in any shop -

  • decent chicken, only that slimy cheap chicken available
  • tonic water
  • small tins of sweetcorn, only large ones
MazIsWin22 · 29/09/2021 00:47

Prawn crackers from the local chinese takeaway, they said theres a shortage

Kljnmw3459 · 29/09/2021 00:49

DH does our shopping and for weeks now he's been complaining about lack of our usual favourite items and also everything now having higher prices. I think it's mainly due to the shop being rebranded to an express rather than anything else.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/09/2021 02:21

Orange juice
Soya milk (one sort that DD needs)
Strawberries
Sparkling water still oos
Lots of other things in my favourites list were oos. Just 7rowsof available things.
(Pigs in blankets)

Autistic allergic children needing certain things.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/09/2021 02:25

Loads of frozen veg oos too.

Will see what turns up tomorrow

Marguerite2000 · 29/09/2021 02:31

No shortages here in Essex.

Blueberry40 · 29/09/2021 08:09

I shop weekly online and for the past 3 weeks there has been pretty much no frozen food available at all- no fruit, pizzas, fries, jacket potatoes or fish. Literally nothing at all when there would usually be about 30 different options!
