What would you do if sent a duplicate order and not charged?

Order from a smallish company, but not single person etc and has quite a big social media presence. I’m pretty sure they’ve sent me a duplicate order and I’ve only been charged the once.
I couldn’t justify keeping the second lot of good for free, so emailed to let them know.
They’ve asked me to return them, fair enough, but at my own cost and they’ll only refund me when they relieve them. I’m a bit miffed that I could possibly be left out of pocket and they should arrange a pre paid Hermes collection or something? Or would you expect them to say thanks and give you a 10% discount for your next order or something? Would people have just not said anything and kept the extra stuff?

I wouldn't want a discount on my next order, that assumes there would have been one without their error.

Yes, these days a free return label could be the expected response. But, if I liked them,.I would make sure that the reimbursement would be a cash credit, not a credit note.

househuntinginthesouth · 26/09/2021 16:24

I would email back and say "happy to send back but you'll have to prepay postage as it was your error".

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 26/09/2021 16:25

I’d try to return it but I wouldn’t pay for the return.

I wouldn’t return at my own cost, even if they might refund.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 26/09/2021 16:28

I’d return it when they agree to pay postage. Their error, their financial penalty.

Chasingsquirrels · 26/09/2021 16:31

I probably wouldn't have bothered telling them.
I certainly wouldn't be arranging return at my own cost.

Blondiecub0109 · 26/09/2021 16:32

Is this Fred and Noah? As she said IG a few days ago about sending out some order 2x.

I think I’d expect a prepaid label - easy enough to do through Hermes AND a discount code for next order

MrsWooster · 26/09/2021 16:32

Definitely-they send a prepaid postage label and arrange the courier to collect. My contribution would be limited to printing out the postage label.

SquareYellow · 26/09/2021 16:32

They can easily pay for a collection and send me the thing to print out or even they stick their own labels if they arrange a collection their end. Which as it is so easy to do seems strange to want me to pay in the hope I do get the money back. It’s not as if I’m sending back something I don’t want, they sent me twice the order and I would have happily kept it and would have been used but I’m too honest.

@Blondiecub0109 no not Fred and Noah

I would not be paying for their mistake - they want it, they can pay to collect it

Shellfishblastard · 26/09/2021 16:37

Either email them back and ask for a prepaid returns or keep the item.

I had similar issue recently with a big shoe chain - they sent me faulty trainers but you have to send faulty items back at your cost. After some emails back and forward they did send me a prepaid label. But it will make me think twice about ordering from them again.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 26/09/2021 16:37

I would return at their cost. I had this happen and the package was somehow delivered back to me again. I kept it second time round Blush

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 26/09/2021 16:42

I would phone the bank and make sure they didnt authorise another payment to them and let them know ill return once they have sent a prepaid delivery label.

GreenWheat · 26/09/2021 16:46

Sounds like a hassle for you but a benefit to them
I probably would have just kept it if I'm honest.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 26/09/2021 16:47

Their mistake, their responsibility. I'd write to them and say they have to arrange collection by X date.

I wouldn't expect a reward for doing the morally right thing though.

purpledagger · 26/09/2021 16:47

I once had something sent to me twice. I emailed the seller and asked for a returns label. They sent me the returns fees via bank transfer and I posted it back. There is no way I would leave myself out of pocket to wait for reimbursement for something that wasn't my error.

TSSDNCOP · 26/09/2021 16:49

Intact them to arrange return at their expense.

I bet it's not worth their ag though so they'll tell you to keep it.

CarbsAreNotMyFriend · 26/09/2021 16:53

Totally unreasonable of them! They should be thanking you for your honesty, making the return as easy as possible, and offering a discount off your next order

drpet49 · 26/09/2021 16:57

* Totally unreasonable of them! They should be thanking you for your honesty, making the return as easy as possible*

^This. I would just leave it. If they really want it back they can arrange it.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 26/09/2021 16:57

I had this happen with a company that sent one set from Ireland and a second from America! They would have arranged a courier but I offered to keep it and pay with a discount. They gave me 25% off and I paid and kept it. Now everyone is getting the same item for Christmas this year!

westcountryboy · 26/09/2021 16:58

Agree with others that I would not be paying for a return as it's their error. Either they cover it or you keep it. Up to them.

thefirstmrsrochester · 26/09/2021 16:59

It’s entirely up to them to deal with them to deal with the return. Cheeky buggers.

MrsKDB · 26/09/2021 17:03

I had this with a company who tried to deliver a second identical SOFA! Can you believe the mismanagement?? I was tempted to keep it but didn’t, I refused the delivery and expected at least a thank you for your honesty but no, nothing.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 26/09/2021 17:03

I had this with Zara and they sent a courier round to collect it.

catfunk · 26/09/2021 17:05

Nope, they need to organise/ pay for collection.
Just keep it if they cba to do that.
