Meals where all the components are together?

SpottyPhone · 24/09/2021 20:07

DD aged 7 eats much better if all the components are together in a meal rather than separate, example Fish Pie or Lasagne.

So what meals are like that?

She doesn't like any kind of bread or wraps, so no fajitas, enchiladas, tacos etc.

She loves pasta and most vegetables.

I already do:
Lasagne
Cottage/Shepherds pie
Fish Pie
Spaghetti Bolognese
Meatballs and Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce

Anything else?

Chilli? Doesn't have to be too spicy

MeadowHay · 24/09/2021 20:11

Stews
Soups
Curries - although obviously rice typically separate from the main curry part, not sure if that would be a problem. You could do a curry with naan bread as the side if you want her to just eat the curry as you said she doesn't like bread.
Omelette
Pasta/gnocci bake

We've tried curries before and she;s not a huge fan, she'll eat it but isn't keen. Just me and her at home so I can basically cater to her.

Curry
Goulash
Fricassee
Hot pot
Moussaka
Paella

If you think the flavors of tacos would be a hit, just serve the filling mixed with rice. If you want to get fancy, put it in a casserole dish, sprinkle a bit of cheese on top and bake it.

MaverickDanger · 24/09/2021 20:13

Tuna pasta bake
Moussaka
Bobotie
Baked gnocchi with sausage meat/meatballs/chorizo
Satay chicken stew
Chicken, ham & leek pie with puff pastry topping
BBQ beef stew with mash topping

Pinch of Nom recipes are quite good for this. I like them because it’s typically one dish so minimal washing up Blush I do have all the books but they also have lots of recipes on their website. Our favourite is the cheesy fajita orzotto pinchofnom.com/recipes/cheesy-fajita-orzotto/

Gustavo1 · 24/09/2021 20:14

I did enjoy a casserole. Sausage casserole is a winter favourite in this house.

I was also going to suggest jambalaya, risotto and I see you have already had paella.

You could also do some filling soups like minestrone or meat and potato type ones.

BikeRunSki · 24/09/2021 20:14

Rissotto
Kedgeree
Noodles all mixed up with stir fried veg etc

Sounds amazing thank you, yes she'll eat the actual chicken or mince or similar bit inside but not the wrap/taco around it.

DS7 loves risotto (I do bacon and pea as our go to version) and noodles - I make a simple satay sauce with chicken and broccoli/peas or any other veg we have all stirred in.

MotherofPearl · 24/09/2021 20:18

Macaroni cheese (I often make macaroni cheese with cauliflower or broccoli added to the dish to make it a bit healthier.

Sorry - I crossed post with this having just checked they'd not been suggested yet!

Would tray bakes count? There are loads of things you can do like that.
Or pasta bakes...you can do tuna pasta bake, or with sausages or macaroni cheese.
You can vary the types of lasagne you make too - do a veggie sauce if you normally do mince, or try chicken etc. Same with shepherd's/cottage pie, there are loads of veggie variants to try, or you can use sweet potato rather than white in the mash.

TeethingBabyHelp · 24/09/2021 20:22

I make what I call "mix up rice" for my little one who is very similar.
Just put anything in there, it's a great one for using up bits of veg etc in the fridge. Carrots, broccoli, peas with cut up ham is his favourite. With an egg cracked in at the end

BippityBoppity87 · 24/09/2021 20:27

Chicken Cesar salad/tuna salad
Ravioli
Omelettes are quite versatile and can mix a few things in it
Quinoa
Homemade nachos? Or would that fall under the bread thing?

SpottyPhone · 24/09/2021 20:28

Thank you everyone some great suggestions I can adapt, meals I had as a kid and forgot about as well so will be lovely to share those!

One of my favourite lazy meals is smoked sausage mixed in with rice, peas and cheese. Sauce optional. But is really quick and easy to make

Antinerak · 24/09/2021 20:38

Hidden veg pasta www.myfussyeater.com/hidden-veggie-tomato-sauce/

If you google 'one pot meals' you'll find the sort of thing you're looking for. You can add rice, pasta and most grains to one pot dishes rather than serving them seperately and you can do the hidden veg thing in most dishes too.
