Addicted to certain smells. Any favourites? Does anyone else have this?

I've noticed recently that I am addicted to pledge original polish.

I spray it every day to soak up the smell. I love it.

Anyone else the same? Yes, it's a slow day. My DS has Covid so we are self isolating.

I used to love the smell of my knees when I was a child and I was about 2 days post-bath. I’m too clean these days…

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 23/09/2021 23:07

Beer breath on men ❤️

Creosote fence paint I forgot to mention - literally the best

Agree guinea pig fur smells lovely, especially when they've been in hay.

I also love the smell of original Lypsyl

Matches smell like childhood birthdays when you blew out the candles

Karvol, which has been discontinued and I’m gutted, it was my favourite smell. Tried alternatives, tried to recreate it with various oils, to no success.

Tar, petrol, strong glue in shoe repair places, warm dog smell, frying garlic and onions in butter smell.

Guineapigbridge · 24/09/2021 05:08

Omg guinea pig fur, the BEST!

MangoSeason · 24/09/2021 05:46

The musty smell that comes out of the car air conditioner when a car is first turned on. Lasts for 3 or so seconds. It is almost erotic. Doesn’t seem to happen in modern cars though, just 1980s and early 1990s cars.

Billandben444 · 24/09/2021 06:19

We live a couple of miles from a maltings and when the wind is in the right direction the smell is totally amazing.

Finknottlesnewt · 24/09/2021 06:47

Petrichor

That amazing smell of the earth in the evening after the rain. Especially in the summer.

Pinkmagic1 · 24/09/2021 06:57

Horses, but especially their tack. The smell of sweaty horse and leather combined is the best!

Milomonster · 24/09/2021 07:37

Last year, I went through a crazy phase of being addicted to petrol smell (I’d sniff my petrol can, for instance). Also, certain rubbers. I was severely anemic and smell craving is a symptom. After my iron injections, cravings stopped. So, worth checking if cravings are getting silly.

Linseed reminds me of my father putting new panes of glass in and smearing putty on. I would always stand next to him when he did this and breathe deeply. I don't smoke but pipe tobacco and cigars and satsumas remind me of childhood Christmases.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 24/09/2021 12:08

Ferrets?! Bloody hell! We have two and they STINK. I can smell them all over DH's clothes when he handles them and it's not nice. I wish he'd rub horses on himself instead.

Betsybanshee · 24/09/2021 12:12

Original Radox & Jeyes fluid - i get the urge to drink them, obvz i dont but really want too.

Betsybanshee · 24/09/2021 12:14

Oh thought of another..
There is a large drain near us warm air comes up out of it and the smell is like an earthy smell, never mentioned liking the smell to anyone, until one of the dc said they love the smell too

TheVanguardSix · 24/09/2021 12:16

Oh God yes to pet paws and babies’ heads…
Monoi oil/soap/candles… Nivea Aftersun… Zara White Jasmine candles… the Christmas box in the loft… the inside of bags or buckets filled with Halloween sweets… woodsmoke from the houseboats.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/09/2021 12:16

Nobody has mentioned the smell when you walk past a fish and chip shop!

Also - the breath of a baby who's just breast fed.

TheVanguardSix · 24/09/2021 12:18

Oh and the smell of our local brewery on brew days. It smells like wet cornflakes. The kids and I love it.

TheVanguardSix · 24/09/2021 12:19

I’m instantly starving now reading this! Grin

TiddleTaddleTat · 24/09/2021 12:24

I really liked the smell of creosote and then discovered I was iron deficient. It's common, apparently.

Puffalicious · 24/09/2021 12:25

A match when it's blown out.
Guy Fawkes' night- all the fireworky/ sparklers smell.
Christmas trees
Bay and Rosemary St Eval candles- the smell of winter to me.
Baby powder
Lavender oil on my pillow
Geranium oil anywhere
Badedas bath gel- DH uses it, it's divine.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 24/09/2021 12:26

Tar and creosote, followed by coriander!

Curlygirl06 · 24/09/2021 18:19

Nobody mentioned TCP yet? Just me then, lol.

cookiesandtea · 24/12/2021 23:22

Creosote is just delicious.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 24/12/2021 23:29

@evtheria

I hate eating tomatoes but love the smell of the leaves/vine. There’s something they use to lay roads that smells just like jackfruit. I like that as well, though my nose and brain always freeze for a sec in confusion. Anyone else like the smell of strong sun on a concrete pavement? Blush
Yes to the smell of hot sun on pavement but also sun on a pub garden table onto which beer has been split.
