What products do you think are poorly designed?

As a woman I get frustrated with poorly designed female products and often wonder why they haven't been changed to suit us better.

One product for example is the extra gusset bit of fabric in knickers and thongs. In my opinion it's in completely the wrong location or should be longer.

I also think that some sanitary pads/pantyliners should be made with the underside or wing part in a black colour so they are less visible when wearing black underwear.

Does anyone else ponder over poorly designed products like me?

EggSheeran · 20/09/2021 12:01

Mobile phones, too big for my hands.

See also pint glasses!

High kitchen cabinet - I have to use a step ladder to get into mine and I'm 5ft4, hardly titchy. I put things in there I don't use too often, but have bugger all space left for things I do use and food Confused

Women's coats - no inside pockets and the outer ones are tiny.

loopylindi · 20/09/2021 12:09

plastic packaging per se but especially that on Oral B toothbrushes. You practically need industrial strength loppers to get in, and then a heavy duty winch to separate the layers to get to the toothbrush. And even when that's worked there another layer of moulded plastic and card to be got through.

Women's jeans too. Pocket room is often tiny and pointless. I'm so sick of it I've just bought some men's jeans to see if they fit me. I've tried before but found the fit all wrong, but it's seemingly a choice of too baggy on the waist with pocket room (men's) or too tightly fitting everywhere and no pocket room (women's).

Oh definitely! Or when they put fake pockets on coats it trousers. It's only ever women's clothing they do this to!

And men wonder why we have to carry bags everywhere with us 😜

I always sew an inside pocket into jackets and coats if there isn’t one. It takes less than ten minutes.

+1 vote for longer gussets! Can we write to our MPs or something?!

ChirpyChirp · 20/09/2021 12:19

Didriksons coats have amazing pockets - inside too!!

Mariell · 20/09/2021 12:21

I bought a pack of scissors and they were all tightly cable ties to the cardboard and each and I would need a pair of scissors to cut them to be able to use them!

You can buy black pads and pantyliners, they look so much better imo.

I'd add toothpaste tubes and foundation bottles that make it difficult to get all the product out.

Separate bathroom sink taps. I don't want to wash my hands in either scalding hot water or freezing cold water.

Janaih · 20/09/2021 13:27

Gro Clocks, why do they have to be mains powered? Surely batteries would suffice. Then you wouldn't need to reset them every time you unplugged. It's a faff changing the settings in general, they are not very user friendly friendly.
But they do keep kids in bed, I'll give them that.

ComtesseDeSpair · 20/09/2021 13:30

Supermarket herb and spice jars. What instrument do you usually use to measure herbs and spices for recipes? A teaspoon. And what can’t you fit inside the jar?

Sexnotgender · 20/09/2021 13:32

Pretty much anything for women 🙄

rocklamp · 20/09/2021 13:32

Lights on cars. Some rear light panels have plastic which is too dark and the lights don't show up properly. You can hardly tell when they're indicating or braking. We saw an dark grey Audi the other day with the light panel also a dark grey so it blended in with the body work. Ridiculous. Lights need to be clearly seen.

Women's clothes, which are generally less well made than men's clothes, more expensive, and don't last as long.

Almost everything else, from seatbelts to PPE - made with men's sizing in mind, not women's.

BearSoFair · 20/09/2021 13:44

Yes to tiny pockets and giant phones. A match made in hell!

TinnedPotatoesRock · 20/09/2021 13:45

The width of gussets in underwear, not just the length, my flaps are often escaping and to the best of my knowledge they are average sized flaps

londonmummy1966 · 20/09/2021 13:52

Bras - I know the reason women's clothes fasten at the back but it is the 21st century now and none of us have ladies maids - surely its time the standard bra fastens at the front?

britnay · 20/09/2021 13:54

Kitchen worktops - too high for the average woman to be in an effective position when baking or slicing things up. They would be better if they were about 6 inches lower.

Ah yes I have to wear PPE for work and am always drowned by the clothing!
