What products do you think are poorly designed?

As a woman I get frustrated with poorly designed female products and often wonder why they haven't been changed to suit us better.

One product for example is the extra gusset bit of fabric in knickers and thongs. In my opinion it's in completely the wrong location or should be longer.

I also think that some sanitary pads/pantyliners should be made with the underside or wing part in a black colour so they are less visible when wearing black underwear.

Does anyone else ponder over poorly designed products like me?

Squeezy mayonnaise bottles - difficult to get the last quarter of the mayonnaise out. I know you can buy jars but I do like being able to squeeze and not use a spoon.

Conditioner, hand cream etc. in squeezy tubes with wide circular base for standing up. Again, always difficult to get the last of the product out. I don't know what the solution is.

Mentioned on a previous similar thread - herb and spice jars are too narrow to let a teaspoon in.

EggSheeran · 20/09/2021 13:56

@TinnedPotatoesRock

The width of gussets in underwear, not just the length, my flaps are often escaping and to the best of my knowledge they are average sized flaps
🤣🤣🤣

Lights on cars. Some rear light panels have plastic which is too dark and the lights don't show up properly. You can hardly tell when they're indicating or braking. We saw an dark grey Audi the other day with the light panel also a dark grey so it blended in with the body work. Ridiculous. Lights need to be clearly seen.
Do hazard lights and indicator lights also use the same lights? I can never tell when one side of a car is sticking out whether it is indicating or has hazard lights on...

@ComtesseDeSpair

Supermarket herb and spice jars. What instrument do you usually use to measure herbs and spices for recipes? A teaspoon. And what can’t you fit inside the jar?
Never thought of this!

I don’t have that problem with knickers at all. Are you wearing them backwards? Confused
I agree with phones getting bigger though, and obviously the tiny/nonexistent pockets in women’s clothing.

@ComtesseDeSpair you can get a teaspoon in Sainsburys spice jars!

EggSheeran · 20/09/2021 13:59

@SirenSays

You can buy black pads and pantyliners, they look so much better imo.

I'd add toothpaste tubes and foundation bottles that make it difficult to get all the product out.

Separate bathroom sink taps. I don't want to wash my hands in either scalding hot water or freezing cold water.

Where can you buy them? I remember they did bring out black pantyliners years ago but they've completely disappeared...I'm guessing it's not somewhere convenient like Tesco's?

Deviating from the theme somewhat......chicken feeders. The red/white plastic sort. Awkward to clean and so flimsy. They're either not properly clean, or broken because I scrubbed it and it broke.

Fimofriend · 20/09/2021 14:04

Fossets that are so short that you touch the side of the sink when you wash your hands. Cold water in one fosset hot in the other.
Bicycle paths that are so narrow you can hardly be there.
Bumps on the road are usually so tall that it hurts the springs on the car even if you drive really really slowly.
Foreign language lessons in primary school only once a week even though all surveys show it has to be at least twice or the kids forget too much between lessons.

🤣 I'm certainly not and I'm petite.

But just shake them out into the teaspoon! I don't want a wider jar taking up more space.

Chunkymenrock · 20/09/2021 14:06

(Regarding herb jars that was meant to be!)

PattyPan · 20/09/2021 14:06

What you need is reusable pads. I exclusively use them and you can get them in all sorts of colours and designs so could get plain black ones if you wanted. And they are so much more comfortable!

brewstoo · 20/09/2021 14:09

Nearly every tea pot or jug I've ever owned doesn't pour properly.

Also park benches, why so many are ridiculously uncomfortable. The designers should have to sit on them for hours before they go to production.

My old hairdryer had the buttons right where you'd need to hold it so I'd always end up turning it off/hotter/colder/slower by mistake.

brewstoo · 20/09/2021 14:12

Sanitary towels in general are awful IMO. I cannot bear the feeling of the blood loss

SirenSays · 20/09/2021 14:12

I tend to buy my herbs and spices at the oriental market in big bags, but even when I've bought the little jars I've never measured, I just by eye it!/add until it tastes right.

Probably Asda, I got black Bodyform ones from my Sainsburys delivery the other day. I think Always make black ones too.

@ImFree2doasiwant have a spare, a wash and a wear, if you like. Put the dirty one in soak whilst you use the spare. If you haven't already, make sure the feeder is under cover to stop damp getting into the feeder, otherwise the mash or pellets congeal and go musty. Have your feeder hanging too, so that your birds can't stretch dirt or mud into into it. Just have 2 or 3 days worth of food in the feeder, so it keeps it fresh.

Yellowbowlbanana · 20/09/2021 14:18

Many, many vacuum cleaners:
My Dyson plug in cat and dog ball one had a compressed pipe to the waste catchment. It was forever getting blocked but the only way to get to it was to unscrew the whole unit.
My current shark can not cope with anything other than dust and hair. Anything else gets wedged and requires unblocking (small twig/small Lego/paper). It is such a pain.
I loved my airram but there is no nozzle to get onto corners or walls etc. Surely these are just basics?!

Thighdentitycrisis · 20/09/2021 14:18

Park benches are designed to be uncomfortable IMO
So people don’t sleep in them

PlinkPlankPlunk · 20/09/2021 14:22

Petrol lawn mowers.

The pull cord on the recoil is always just too long for the length of your arm, to be able to start it easily. You can put a knot in the cord but then you need about a dozen goes pulling it. It drives me crazy

Idiotathome79 · 20/09/2021 14:26

My Renault captur 2019 the cup holders are tiny didn't fit a large Costa cup and stupidly by the hand break so if I am ever lucky enough to get a takeaway cup that fits the lid pops off when you put the hand real on .

*side note I spend a lot of time in my car , and is more like my office on wheels

ChristmasPlannier · 20/09/2021 14:26

Children's toys. Shy the huge amounts of tiny plastic, and metal string holding Barbie and other dolls in place? Poor kid is so excited to open up their toy when it needs to then be cut out the cardboard with scissors

ChristmasPlannier · 20/09/2021 14:28

Another agreement form non-mixer taps. I hate that in public toilets the option is to wash my hands in scalding or cold water

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 20/09/2021 14:29

Shakespeare spelt it fosset!

Totally agree with this. I dread the feeling. It's all up at the front too, on the end of the pad. I haven't used tampons in about 20 years, but considering giving them a go again to avoid this.
