Things you love about Autumn

I enjoy summer but I don't cope with the heat well and am just starting to think about what I'm looking forward to as the seasons change :
Autumn walks, crunching through the leaves
Hot chocolate
Misty mornings
Making lots of winter warmer type meals
Christmas shopping
Snuggling under a blanket on the sofa
Lighting all my candles
Halloween and Bonfire Night
Cosy nights in
Buying new winter wardrobe
Lying in bed listening to the wind an rain
The half term and Easter holidays
Christmas is around the corner
TV really improves and Strictly is back!
I'm sure there's more but these sprung to mind. What is everyone else looking forward to?

Lobscouse! Of course my autocorrect has no more idea than I do!

shangelawasrobbed · 20/09/2021 07:11

The night the clocks go back and we get an extra hour in bed.

October through to January is my favourite time of year. Its just better. People wear more clothes, it is quieter (fewer lawn mowers, fewer screaming children, fewer instances of having to listen to other people's music). I love the smell, the cold air waking me up when I walk somewhere. Autumn colours, pumpkin carving, fireworks, warm pubs, log burners going, scraping my car of frost in the morning, praying for snow, my birthday, putting up the tree, bedding down across the Christmas break, port, cheese, a new years day walk, then the final marker of joy in January when the snowdrops appear. Utter bliss!!!

I'm a big fan of autumn and winter - I find spring really insipid and summers of recent years have been a bit meh - a few too hot days and the rest of the time dull and rainy. At least in autumn and winter, it's supposed to be cold and dark so you know what you are in for! I prefer jumpers and boots to t-shirts and birkenstocks, and I just feel more alive and connected to the natural rhythms of the earth in the darker months.

I don't love getting up when it is still dark outside, but I feel the benefits of autumn and winter make up for that. I do think people who thrive in autumn and winter are people who have a comfortable (indoors) living situation though, and are able to have homes that lend themselves to being made cosy/are comfortable to spend a lot of time in.

@Holidaytan

I love the summer, but I enjoy not to worry about my dog eating people’s picnics in the park as the weather turns cooler!
I like this one Grin

For me, absolutely everything that's been mentioned. This is completely my favourite time of year. This year my kids are really excited about it too, and it's so nice to share it with them. We're counting down to the First Fire on the first of October. We're going to toast hotdogs over it for Oktoberfest. And we're excited about how the kittens will react - they've never seen fire before, and being cats, it's going to be their absolute favourite thing. And there's the going outside into the cold dark to smell the smoke. Exquisite.

Autumn changing scenery with all of the leaves turning- I don't think there is a greater time for the great British countryside. I absolutely love it.

The wearing of clothes that flatter and feeling 'properly dressed' rather than sweating away in flimsy clothes bearing too much skin.

Real fires- just our absolute favourite in our household. Nothing more homely IMO.

Bonus nice days...there's something special about warm days when it's meant to be cooler.

The start of the new school year. Haven't been to school in 25+ years but that feeling of new learning ahead still remains.

Slow cooker curries , thick soups etc...the best!

Pumpking spice, big sweaters, crunchy leaves, bright colors everywhere, stylish outfits, Halloween and Christmas shopping, long walks with my camera. I love taking pics of colorful trees in the local park and doing picture animations with falling leaves, autumn photographs are just something else to me. This year I'm also following a fall bucket list and it seems fun so far- bucketlistjourney.net/fun-fall-bucket-list-activities/ . I've been through maybe a half of it.

greedygut · 20/09/2021 12:43

Nothing
Just counting days until spring

RampantIvy · 20/09/2021 12:45

The only thing on the OP's list I like is better TV. The rest can go into room 101 as far ad I'm concerned.

Chipsahoy · 20/09/2021 12:54

How sad to see people hate a time of year so much. I get it. Autumn signifies brutality and trauma for me. I’ve learned to embrace it though and I’ve come to really love autumn. Throw yourself into it is my advice. Find ways to love it. Decorate with autumn decor. Get outside. Go pumpkin picking. It helps. It really does.

DrunkenKoala · 20/09/2021 13:09

I love being outside in Sept and Oct. The trees in the local park look fantastic, thoroughly enjoy our walks to and from school collecting conkers and then pumpkin picking. I enjoy Halloween and Bonfire Night. Sept and Oct are when I start to think about christmas and booking activities, we’ve booked the panto and need to book Father Christmas. Love the Christmas catalogues which come out around now and making sure I’ve got my click and collect booked for the “Food to order”.

I’m not really a fan of Nov and Dec weather wise. The leaves have mostly fallen and then it rains and it turns mulch underneath.

Winter foods particularly cottage pie and gravy.
Love watching Strictly,
Christmas shopping,
Winter/Christmas candles/diffusers,
Making Christmas cake and other christmas foods,
Wearing my winter coat, knitwear and boots.

Marmelace · 20/09/2021 13:25

I was born on the Equinox, leaves falling, nights drawing in, the smell, the quietness, it's the last kiss of life before the darkness that winter will bring.

elQuintoConyo · 20/09/2021 13:30

Christmas.

Work goes nuts Oct-Dec, so only the thoughts of Christmas keeps me going.

Jan-Feb-March can feck off.

I'm a spring-summer bunny.

RampantIvy · 20/09/2021 13:30

Once your children grow up and leave home Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas just aren't the same.

languagelover96 · 20/09/2021 13:49

Lots of things
The fallen leaves in the yard
Pumpkin pies
Halloween parties etc
Dark nights with wine and so on
Christmas cake
Christmas movies and the like
Blackberry collecting and a roaring tasty fire at night
Candles on the windowsill
Christmas Day traditions
Pantomimes

RampantIvy · 20/09/2021 18:09

I'm hoping for a long period of Indian summer, crisp mornings, golden light, long shadows.

That is the kind of autumn I enjoy. The reality of autumn where I live is usually cold and damp with cloud and low light levels. I think that people who romanticise autumn don't get the kind of autumn weather we get.

Today was lovely - sunny and 21 degrees.

DamnUserName21 · 20/09/2021 18:54

My favourite season.
The smells of fallen leaves, the distant smell of bonfires and the burning of leaves.
The crisp air.
Getting cosy on the couch.
Halloween and Christmas

I live in the northeast corner of Ireland. Believe me, my autumns don't in any way resemble the crisp, golden stereotype. I love them dearly all the same.
