If you have a larger than average house and family what are you paying each month for gas and electricity?

Ours has just gone up to around £300 pcm

House is 5 bed and 2 bathrooms. Eight of us live here. Tumble dryer and dishwasher both ran 2-4 times a day. Games consoles, tv etc

I have a large old house and a large family. Two of the children are disabled and create a lot of washing. The washer and dryer is rarely off tbh. We pay around 300 a month . I have switched to a heat pump dryer to try and get it down a bit and try to dry outside as much as possible. We also use energy saving bulbs etc . Also their medical needs mean the house has to be warm so it is hard to bring the costs down. It is v expensive but unavoidable really.

Also currently £300 per month with British Gas.

Old, detached house over 3 floors with no insulation whatsoever. 5 people, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, dishwasher, 2 washing machines, 2 tumble dryers, several computers/consoles.

£220 a month, four beds, two bathrooms, washer on daily. Five of us

I’m starting to wonder if there’s a problem with ours now because it seems so cheap compared to other peoples!

Jerseygirl12 · 14/09/2021 18:37

TheGrumpyGoat same, ours is £99 for 4 adults all in during the day in a large 4 bedroom house.

THATmamaofMANY · 14/09/2021 18:47

@Jerseygirl12 who are you with?

I pay 200 a month just for electric - no mains gas. But we have a pool

Camrette · 14/09/2021 19:08

8 bed, 3 bath, 8 people
Currently 200/month

EDF, I was with Green but it changed to EDF recently.

I'm shocked at how much so many of you are paying. Shock I live in a 4/5 bed, 2/3 reception, 2 bath new build & pay £68 a month. We have 4 adults living here constantly using screens & internet. DH is WFH. I do a lot of washing, but since moving here NEVER use a tumble dryer. Our house came with a washer-dryer, but the dryer part of WD are so crap & expensive to use I tend to dry stuff on an airer, over the bannister or in the airing cupboard. Upstairs & downstairs have separate heating thermostats & the heating rarely comes on. Goes to show how well insulated new builds are. At our old house (Tiny 3 bed 1930's semi) we paid £100 a month.

FuckYouCorona · 14/09/2021 19:24

I am with Green btw.

Large 4 bed detached, 3 bathrooms, 4 adults living here ..... we pay £180 a month for the LPG, and £160 for the electricity. We also have a woodburner. DH walks around at night turning lights off Hmm

We've got a new Worcester boiler, double glazing was replaced 2 years ago along with front and back door, and we've had the loft insulated along with cavity walls under a Government grant. Not sure what else we can do tbh........

LBOCS2 · 14/09/2021 22:53

5 bed, 3 reception semi, two adults, three children.

We pay £150 a month for combined gas and electricity. We had a new heating system fitted about 2 years ago and it seems quite efficient.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 16/09/2021 11:43

Large 4 bed, 3 bathrooms. 2 adults and a toddler.
We pay £100 a month electricity. But just found out we're £200 behind Shock. It's our first year here so dread to think what it will cost in winter.

We're on LPG as no mains gas and we pay approx £500 for a delivery which lasts a few months.

We have the washer and dryer going once a day plus the dishwasher. TV is hardly on and we dont game or anything like that. We have to have the lights on a lot though as it's such a dark house :(

We do have a pond pump running most of the time though.

VeganVeal · 16/09/2021 14:04

4 bed detached, 2 people, both WFH £86 pm

TheGrumpyGoat · 16/09/2021 14:28

I’ve just had my bill for the last 6 months, it was £360 for both (including standing charge). Obviously cheaper over summer. Assuming it’s 3 x the amount for the winter months my £150 per month direct debit should be about right.
