If someone gave you £700000 what would you do with it?

Can't talk about this in real life and it's perfectly possible this won't happen but we are in the running to receive a payout of £700,000 by the end of the year.
I'm trying not to think about it as I don't want to be disappointed but there is also a bit of me that is a little excited. If it comes off the 700k would be the initial pay out followed by a regular annual income afterwards.

It is a life changing amount of money for us in that it will pay off our mortgage, allow us to buy a new car and go on some great holidays.

What would you do if you were given that amount of money?

Hmm
molsmumx · 13/09/2021 18:46

I'd loooove to train and set up my own beauty business!
Hope all works out for you! X

Retire

Hothammock · 13/09/2021 18:49

Pay off mortgage and finish doing up house. Spend money on kids hobbies and experiences like sailing, horse riding, some modest travel experiences to interesting places, scale back work, spend more time with family.

PermanentTemporary · 13/09/2021 18:49

Enjoy! I've always wanted to visit Japan so would think about booking a trip there if we can ever travel again. I'd book with a company like Trailfinders that wouldn't shove me in with a group of other entitled people but would put together an itinerary for me.

Leeds2 · 13/09/2021 18:49

Pay off the mortgage first of all, or maybe move to a bigger/better place with a (smaller) mortgage if I wasn't happy where I was.
Put some into savings.
Private school for the children.
Private health care.
If it is an inheritance, or from a family member, something to remind me of them eg jewellery, a picture, something related to their interests etc.

I’d buy a new house mortgage free without a chain (would buy with the cash then sell this one). Nothing too indulgent but it would have a guest bedroom and utility.

fitsandgiggles · 13/09/2021 18:49

Do the house and garden up, pay remainder of mortgage, nice holiday and save the rest

Runforthehillocks · 13/09/2021 18:49

Yep, retire.

CornishTiger · 13/09/2021 18:50

I’d buy a house , pay off my best friends mortgage, buy a camper/motorhome and explore UK/Europe in school holidays.

I’d still work but hopefully DH could retire very early.

Fivefourthreetwo · 13/09/2021 18:51

I'd give a substantial amount to charity

respecttheforum · 13/09/2021 18:51

Buy a house as we rent.
Pay off all debts including hefty car finance.
Probably take a year off work then reduce my hours a bit.

littlebilliie · 13/09/2021 18:51

Pay off mortgage and debts, invest and plan your income requirements for your life. If you are working maximise your pension contributions for each year until you retire.

Seek Independent financial advice

Whatwouldnanado · 13/09/2021 18:52

Buy a small rental property. Sell our home and buy similar but out of town. Holidays. Help a charity we're close to.

621CustardCream438 · 13/09/2021 18:52

Give most of it away. We’re financially comfortable and I like our life as it is.

2catsandhappy · 13/09/2021 18:53

Buy a house near my dd. Help my db out.

IceLace100 · 13/09/2021 18:53

Buy a new house mortgage free. Invest the spare amount in stocks

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 13/09/2021 18:53

Pay off mortgage and debts.
Buy a small car for me.
Puy £50,000 in each of the kids accounts as a nest egg for the future.
Do some home improvements that badly need doing.
Invest the rest to use as income so dh could afford to get a less stressful job.

Driftingblue · 13/09/2021 18:54

I would probably take 75k and do a bit of remodeling on the house and then the rest would go in the retirement fund .

ShingleBeach · 13/09/2021 18:55

Buy a better house.

Give Dc enough for a flat.

Yellowbowlbanana · 13/09/2021 18:55

It's not enough that we would be able to retire but it would make life significantly easier. I don't want to get excited but I can't help thinking about it a little.

Pay off the mortgage. Aggressively invest the rest for now. Have a fucking awesome holiday.

wombatspoopcubes · 13/09/2021 18:58

Buy a couple of houses to let and use that extra income to pay off my mortgage. That way I have an income and my child can get on the property ladder when ahe grows up.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 13/09/2021 18:59

Donate most of it to local projects aimed at alleviating hunger among school children. I'd also buy lots of new benches for around the village. Many older people can't go very far from home because they need to take a little break along the way and can't do so if there's no where to sit.

Ozberry · 13/09/2021 18:59

I’d retire too. Not fully. I’d do a bit of freelance writing to keep my brain ticking over, but maybe one feature a month.
I quite fancy a ‘she shed’ as my writers retreat. I’d buy a bigger house with a nice garden to accommodate it, and hire a gardener.
I’d probably get a little dog too.
