How do you ask for additional postage on eBay after the buyer had paid?

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 13/09/2021 18:23

The buyer emailed me asking if I can send the item by first class rather than 2nd because they want it sooner. But I can't see how to add on additional postage.
Google tells me I should go to "sold" then "send invoice" but I cannot see that option

Can you just get them to send you the extra via PayPal?

Mariell · 13/09/2021 19:09

Find the item: In Seller Hub, select Orders. In
Are housing mobile or desktop? I think you need to be using desktop -

My eBay, select Sold.
From Actions, select Send Invoice.
Make any necessary changes, such as to postage charges or payment methods.
Select Send Invoice.

2lsinllama · 14/09/2021 09:36

You can’t do it on mobile - has to be on a desktop. Easy to find once you know that but took me ages the first time!

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 08:53

Hmm i still can't see it even on the desktop version.
She already paid and eBay sent the money to me so I wonder if that had caused the issue of not being able to send an invoice?
I messaged her and asked her how to do it she said she didn't know but she'd get the money to me somehow. I posted it first class like she asked and sent an email saying it was an additional £2.89 to pay and can she send it to my PayPal but she hasn't replied!!
I fully expect her to say item not delivered and she will keep the item and not pay the additional postage.
There was no point adding on signed for cause that was gone be £3.65 or something and the cost of the actual item was £4.50!
Seems crazy...I haven't used eBay in a long time but I really don't think it's worth it now.

If she's already paid you can't send the invoice.

lljkk · 16/09/2021 08:59

I imagine I'd fully refund then send a revised invoice; add on 30p for the non-refundable fees from first payment.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 16/09/2021 09:01

Either give her your PayPal and get her to send it, or go to PayPal and send an invoice to her.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 09:02

Hmm see she's bought and sold thousands of things so I imagine she knew I couldn't then add on an additional charge if she paid already.
But she does have only positive feedback :/
I don't want to refund yet in case she then gets the item and keeps it but says she didn't get it 🤔

Why did you send it before she paid the extra?!

Tal45 · 16/09/2021 09:06

Oh god you shouldn't have posted it until she'd paid the extra. Now it's probably very difficult to do anything :-/ I found ebay more hassle than it was worth and only sell on local FB pages. You might have to put this down to experience :-(

Tal45 · 16/09/2021 09:07

Don't refund her though because if she doesn't pay again then you're really out of pocket.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 09:10

@ZeroFuchsGiven

Either give her your PayPal and get her to send it, or go to PayPal and send an invoice to her.
I need her email address which I don't have though

@Tibtab

Why did you send it before she paid the extra?!
Because she contacted me to ask for me to send it first class and she needed it by Friday. So since I am a normal, nice person I packaged it up and sent it to ensure she got it in time.

When I messaged her to say how do I send an invoice she said "omg I dinnae ken but I'll get it to you somehow X"

And then when I sent her a message to say I had posted it and it will be extra £2.89 and to send to my PayPal she hasn't responded!

I just sent her a new message today. I'm trying to kill with kindness so she replies. But also, she would surely be risking a negative feedback from me by not paying the additional fee?

HasaDigaEebowai · 16/09/2021 09:14

I think you write off the £2.89 and clock it up to experience

Malin52 · 16/09/2021 09:18

Oh god this. I couldn't be doing with the bother for £2 something.
JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 09:19

I think maybe. But it's just so shit that people do this. I'm selling stuff to top up my bank before I go off on maternity leave and I wouldn't sell stuff if I'm not making money on it :(

BadLad · 16/09/2021 09:19

Unless I'm out of date, sellers can't leave negative feedback any more.

Now that you've sent it, I think there's nothing you can do. This has sometimes happened to me in the past, as a buyer. The seller realised that they've charged too little for postage, which can happen when they haven't set specific amounts for posting overseas. So they contact me and offer me the following options:

A new address, in the same country as the seller, for cheaper postage.

They cancel the auction, refund me, and I buy it again, with the amended postage cost.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 09:20

@Malin52 honestly neither can I!

Never send anything until the person has paid in full for whatever.

You may have to choc this one up to experience if she doesn’t pay. You’ve done the nice normal human thing.

But she may be a cow and doesn’t feel she should pay the extra. Or perhaps she’ll surprise you yet.

TheWeatherWitch · 16/09/2021 09:21

I had something very similar but I was the buyer. The seller gave me her bank details and I transferred the money over to her account.

eBay had decided she was fraudulently selling a sweater, so closed her account and stopped my payment but I had already received the sweater. She emailed me as we had had some conversations during the sale so luckily were in touch with each other.

Ask the buyer to send you the money by bank transfer.

doublemonkey · 16/09/2021 09:22

OP, sellers can't leave negative feedback for buyers.

You might get lucky but I'd let it go and move on if I were you.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 09:22

@badlad yeh so my mistake was posting it. O bet she does this all the time then if sellers can't leave negative feedback

OP posts:
JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 09:24

@TheWeatherWitch I did send her my PayPal address already and have had radio silence which is why I'm now skeptical. :(

OP posts:
YouTubeAddict · 16/09/2021 09:33

I wouldn’t have sent first class unless she’d have paid for it. I know it’s too late now but as others have said, I think you’ll have to chalk it up to experience and forget about £2.89. I’d be irritated about it though as it’s the principle more than anything, it’s stealing in essence.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 09:34

Yes exactly. Yeh I have no doubt she won't be paying the additional and obviously it is a small amount but not for the value of the item. And it's just a big waste of my time. :(
