How do you ask for additional postage on eBay after the buyer had paid?

The buyer emailed me asking if I can send the item by first class rather than 2nd because they want it sooner. But I can't see how to add on additional postage.
Google tells me I should go to "sold" then "send invoice" but I cannot see that option

But also...I don't see why she has done it. Because she gets it like a day earlier than second class? What's the point?

I’ve just gone back to selling after a few years away. People have definitely got wankier in that time. I’ve learnt to treat it dispassionately. If someone now asked me what she asked you, my response would a polite ‘No, not now you’ve paid, but I am happy to cancel the transaction for you.’ and leave the ball in their court. I’ll try to mitigate for all scenarios but if anyone does manage to scam me I’ll just park it and move on, people are tossers unfortunately.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 10:30

Yeh I should have just said no. Silly me

It's crap, OP but eBay is rife with scammer buyers.

I had one buyer who I sent extra items on top of the ones listed who tried an INR claim. Soon withdrew it when I added tracking details showing delivery but it means I now send everything signed for. If I can't make anything doing that then the item goes first to the annual car boot sale then if unsold to charity.

If she wanted first class against your stated rate she should have coughed for it first. Just chalk it up to experience and remember no good deed goes unpunished especially on eBay.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 10:45

Yeh I guess so

But what is the scam?! It just means she got it one day earlier :/

OP posts:
JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 10:45

So it's like the seller is out of pocket but she doesn't gain from that really

Don’t blame her for your not bothering to learn how to use eBay properly. When you join you are given tutorials and the help pages are comprehensive.

AutumnDragon · 16/09/2021 10:55

If you sent her a message with an email address in (I assume for Paypal address) then the Ebay messaging system may have blocked the message.

No not silly, just trusting. You’re right it’s not a ‘scam’ as such, but she’s gained and you’ve lost out - she’s stolen your money but don’t let her steal your time and headspace too. Chalk it up to experience and use it as a learning curve.

She hasn't paid for the upgraded service she asked for after the auction ended and you've ended up out of pocket.
VainAbigail · 16/09/2021 11:01

@JasonMomoasgirlfriend

You can only block her now so that she doesn’t buy from you again.

Also, have you read her feedback as if she’s a regular buyer who does this, the sellers can’t leave negative feedback, only positive with a negative comment.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 11:03

@Mariell I joined eBay about 18 years ago.
You sound like you'd be a scammer yourself. Jesus.

Sorry, side issue here but how come 1st class costs £2.89 more? Is the item pretty big/heavy?

I've had people ask me for a postage upgrade (on clothes) and it used to be about 40p or 50p.
If they'd asked nicely I just gave it to them free Smile

Anyway, I'd let it go, OP... It's not worth stressing over such a small amount. Oh, and others have said, don't send until you've received agreed payment.

I just did the "contact" seller thingy. I got her message asking to send first class and she did respond when I asked her if she knew how I could send her an invoice. So I do think the messages go through ok.

Yes I did go through the feedback and there was nothing negative on the comments.

So I'll just wait and see what happens...maybe she will still pay it. 🤷

It was a small package so didn't fit through the large letter slot at the post office and apparently that's just what it would cost to post 1st class. I do think it is expensive! It wasn't very heavy at all

You can msg but eBay won’t let you include an email address in the msg - to avoid you circumventing their terms of payment etc for auctions.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 11:18

@MandyMotherOfBrian ah ok so maybe she didn't see that one then. The last message i sent this morning didn't have an address in though so hopefully she got that and just hadn't read it yet.

OP posts:
JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 11:21

It does say sent though 🤔

myheartskippedabeat · 16/09/2021 11:22

@lljkk

I imagine I'd fully refund then send a revised invoice; add on 30p for the non-refundable fees from first payment.
I wouldn't do a full refund what if the buyer then doesn't pay at all??
TartanJumper · 16/09/2021 11:29

If there is a next time just reply a day or so later and say "Oh, sorry- I didn't see this message before going to the post office! I've already sent it 2nd class today. Hopefully won't be long!" and don't engage further.
Lesson learnt, thankfully it's not a massive loss to you OP.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 16/09/2021 11:33

Yes I intend to sell some much higher value items so I guess it's good to have learnt this lesson on a cheap thing!

OP posts:
EvenRosesHaveThorns · 16/09/2021 12:29

You shouldn't have sent it without prepaymen, lesson learned!

I think I cross-posted with OP and that's why I didn't see OP had already posted it.
