Super quick medical history woke up last Wednesday 4am stonking headache, just awful. Thurs am left sided paralysis of face bell's palsy diagnosed, steroids started. Sat am left sided weakness/ numbness of arm admitted to hospital for 2 days had a lumbar puncture and ct scan plus lots of blood tests all clear apart from Anemia.

Took the last dose of steroids yesterday was feeling good face had started moving a bit etc. headache gone, still a bit off down left side but not as bad. Today the right side of my face is becoming paralysed numb, tingly sensation mouth is drooping but the eye is ok. Also the numbness, dead feeling has come back to left arm, bit of a headache, stiff neck returning.

My question is do should I call 111? Both times they've sent an ambulance and I've been Blush I don't think it's a stroke I think whatever the steroids have squashed down is coming back and I need another course/ further investigation.

Do you think it can wait till GP tomorrow?

I think you need to go straight to A and A

Marcee · 12/09/2021 20:15

A and E

YouveBeenLittUp · 12/09/2021 20:19

I also think you should go to A & E, although I'm not a medic sorry. Hope you are ok!

999, I think.

FlowerTink · 12/09/2021 20:23

Call 999, you need to be seen immediately.

brightgreenapple · 12/09/2021 20:24

A&E!

Puddlelane123 · 12/09/2021 20:24

999

PinkFootstool · 12/09/2021 20:25

Not a medic, but thinking A&E as well, thru need to eliminate lots of very serious possibilities.

Have they ruled out hemiplegic migraine if they have also ruled out the serious options? I get stroke symptoms with mine including facial paralysis, neck pain, and blinding head pain.

ChickenFeed30 · 12/09/2021 20:25

I’m a GP. I’d send you to A&E. 999 or straight to A&E if someone can get you there quickly.

WetWeekends · 12/09/2021 20:26

If you can get a lift to A&E I’d do that, otherwise 999. I hope you get to the bottom of what’s causing your symptoms and get well soon Daffodil

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 12/09/2021 20:26

I used to be an A+E nurse. You need to go.

LemonViolet · 12/09/2021 20:27

Unless your “don’t think it’s a stroke” is based on an at-home MRI scan, please get seen ASAP! Can you get a taxi or lift to A&E if you don’t need/want an ambulance (might be quicker anyway?!)

womaninatightspot · 12/09/2021 20:28

Ah not really the answers I was hoping for but off to A and E I shall tootle. It's weird as apart from the face/ headache/ weird numbness I don't feel ill.

I'm a paramedic- definitely A&E.

LemonViolet · 12/09/2021 20:31

Pack phone charger/headphones/notebook and pen/book/jumper/clean pjs and change of undies etc in case you stay in/blanket/hand sanitiser/hand cream/lip balm/water bottle…… and fingers crossed they figure it out and you feel better soon xxx

No ones mentioned hemiplegic migraine, they described the headache as thunderclap and talked about migraines. The original headache was on the back left and then I had an awful headache behind the eyes that was put down to light sensitivity/ migraine.

Was about to say a & e then saw your reply. Good luck and hope you get sorted quickly

PinkFootstool · 12/09/2021 20:36

@womaninatightspot migrainetrust.org/understand-migraine/types-of-migraine/hemiplegic-migraine/ One to talk to them about, assuming they exclude other things. Much love to you, no matter what is going on, it's scary.

lunar1 · 12/09/2021 20:38

I hope you get seen quickly.

FixTheBone · 12/09/2021 20:39

I wouldn't be leaving hospital without a head ct or mri (possibly both).

Only a bone carpenter these days, but I do remember some acute medicine, very wide differential here from migraine through to subarachnoid bleed and lots in between...

Needs thoroughly checking especially if the neurological signs are changing.

User5827372728 · 12/09/2021 20:40

Hope you’re ok

HurryUpAndWait23 · 12/09/2021 20:42

I would really really want a CT or MRI.

You sound very chill considering. I'd be on the ceiling!

womaninatightspot · 12/09/2021 20:50

I did have a ct last Saturday. I think I've gone past weepy/ emotional now organising childcare and packing a bag. Divorced and ex can be difficult.

Boombadoom · 12/09/2021 20:50

They need to give you a CT or MRI. Your symptoms are progressing and it needs more attention. Hope you’re ok, it must be very frightening x

Huge differential as @FixTheBone has said. Not wise to speculate about migraines etc. You need an MRI ideally. Take care, and good luck
