If you are trying to lose weight, what are you having for dinner?

I don't eat bread, rice, pasta, potatoes or wheat/refined sugar.

I'm trying to only eat whole foods, very little processed foods.

But there's only so much salad and soup you can eat. So I'm looking for inspo. Plus, its friday, I feel like I want a friday treat too.

What are you having?

Salad
Sushi
Steak with a tiny portion of rice and veggies
Chicken breast and cooked vegetables

LaBellina · 10/09/2021 16:13

If I want to treat myself I eat salmon sushi.
About 200 calories per set.

Chip shop chips covered in curry sauce

Grilled lamb leg steak. Garden peas. Broccoli & just 3 small new potatoes. Home made mint sauce.
Rhubarb cooked with sweetener & yoghurt.

Oakdog · 10/09/2021 16:19

Steak, with a small amount of peppercorn sauce made low fat creme fraiche, salad and a couple of potatoes.

also low carbing as much as possible and trying to lose weight. Tonight I'll be having tandoori chicken breast (marinaded in natural yoghurt and spices) with salad and quinoa. DH will have a naan bread. Followed by strawberries drizzled with melted dark chocolate.

That sounds delicious. And I think I've found my inspiration 😁

I saw this recipe earlier

www.itv.com/thismorning/articles/nishas-friday-night-prawn-coconut-curry

I'd probably cut down the coconut and oil, and you could serve it with cauliflower rice to lower the carb content.

My other new favourite is rice noodle salad, with just a bit of rice noodle, loads of lettuce, carrot, radish, cucumber etc and something like minced pork stir fried with spices and basil.

Or those ready made Asian potsticker dumplings.

StickyThighs · 10/09/2021 16:27

MacDonald’s! Sorry!! Not helpful!

KnobJockey · 10/09/2021 16:29

Also low carbing, chicken stuffed with spinach and ricotta. Not sure what else will be on the plate. Maybe cauliflower cheese? I tend to have carrot and swede mash at least a couple of times a week.

Also sometimes have a burger with no bun, served with butternut squash and carrot chips, and baby sweetcorn.

itsgettingwierd · 10/09/2021 16:37

Pizza and skin on fries 🤣🤣

I've had no carbs since Monday, soups, fruit and yogurt for lunch daily and meat, veg for dinner.

So my Friday night great is a proper full out treat! I can only diet if I do this.

I'm trying it more as a healthier lifestyle and have lost 1.5 st through eating better and walking much more. But I refuse to deny myself something I really want. I want this to become more a way of life than a diet that I risk putting on weight after if I return to more rubbish eating.

ginsparkles · 10/09/2021 16:38

Tonight I'm have chicken tikka masala using a reduced fat sauce and with cauliflower rice. Having fasted until lunch and had a small pasta and yogurt for lunch, I'll come in under my calories for today.

GreyCarpet · 10/09/2021 16:40

Low carbing here too -

Chicken fajita bowl - made with homemade spice mix (way too much sugar in shop bought!!), shallots, shallots, yellow peppers, salad, home made guacamole, sour cream and grated cheese. No tortilla.

Followed by blueberries, raspberries amd double cream.

Yum!

Ditto low carb (not keto, just subbing actual veg instead of starchy carbs).

Carb subs: roast butternut squash, roast broccoli, poached eggs, Greek yoghurt. Butterbeans or cannellini beans are also good (I use tinned, rinse and fry in a little butter or olive oil).

HurryUpAndWait23 · 10/09/2021 16:45

Kebab.
I've lost 3lb this week.

I'm doing WW, it works well for me and chicken kebab (takeaway) is incredibly low on the points scale compared to others.

Love WW.

Xiaoxiong · 10/09/2021 16:46

Our recent low carb meals have included:

Griddled chicken breast with a fresh tomato, sweetcorn and black bean salsa

Steak with caponata and roast broccoli

Greek prawn and mussel tomato stew with feta and dill

Roast chicken thighs with olives and capers, served on top of sautéed spring greens

Slow cooked buttered salmon with dill, red onions and sesame seeds, with a green salad

GreyCarpet · 10/09/2021 16:47

Butter chicken curry with roasted spiced cauliflower is a weekend favourite here!

buttcrackmcheese · 10/09/2021 16:51

Pizzas made with bagel thin and reduced fat cheese

Westfacing · 10/09/2021 16:52

Another low-carber.

Chicken traybake - thighs & drumsticks seasoned with Cajun rub, roasted on sliced red onions, peppers & aubergine.

Pizza. I lost 48 kg (7 stone ish) between July 2020 and August this year and am now playing around with maintenance, but essentially doing the same thing as whilst losing.

I eat whatever the family are having in the evening, and if that's a processed carbohydrate/ high calorie meal I just fast the rest of the day. If the family dinner is healthy and doesn't involve wheat/ bread/ dough then I have a light lunch or porridge as well.

I fast between 16 and 23 hours out of 24, depending upon what the main meal is and what I feel like doing. I don't snack except on fruit or unsalted nuts, and avoid processed carbohydrates, and sugar and processed food generally, if eating alone and usually plan healthy family meals, but if the family are having pizza I'm having it too Grin

I'm basically sticking mostly to the same thing forever now, and quite like doing things this way.

I'm toying with the idea of fasting.

I'm good at putting food off, and I like the idea of eating what ever I'd like.

But what hours do people choose to fast? There seems to be several options.

PresidentJoey · 10/09/2021 17:25

Good thread OP, I'm carb-dodging too.

I'm having a stir fry tonight, so quick and tasty:

Fry diced onions with chopped coriander stems in sesame oil.
Add a teaspoon each of garlic and ginger, enjoy the smell.
Stir in some Chinese five spice, diced peppers and courgettes.
Let all the veg soften then add some sweet chilli sauce and a dash of fish sauce, let it simmer for ten minutes.
When it's almost ready add a small portion of salmon, it only takes minutes to cook.
Then a pinch of chopped coriander leaves right at the end and stir.

This is my favourite low carb meal; it's so filling and tasty so no need for rice or noodles Wink

GreyCarpet · 10/09/2021 17:26

But what hours do people choose to fast?

I don't fast everyday but , when I do, I'll eat dinner at around 8pm. Then don't eat anything until I get home from work the following day at around 5pm.

I don't eat to a calorie deficit though. I eat around 1500 calories in the few hours i do eat.

BlackTee40 · 10/09/2021 17:41

I do 12 til 8 but I'm switching to 1 til 9.
