could really do with some help, DS (21) car accident, not covered on insurance

Hi

Yesterday my DS pulled out at a junction, got hit by another car.
Coming back from work to walk his dog.

Put claim through on insurance, turns out only had insurance for pleasure and social.

What can he do ?

Its going to cost £1,000s isn't it

Hey, I can see that this, old post but I'm in similar situation. I am I driver from about 13 years, but last couple I haven't drove much. So I decided to buy a car all good until now but when I sign for insurance I was mislead of the price and I didn't put commuting on my policy and only social and pleasure. However 2 days after I sorted my car I was on my back home from work and suddenly there was a bus in front of me stopped on the bus stop. So I tried to take over the bus , but miscalculated the distance and i hit the bus with my mirror and i assume i scratched. Then I stopped about few meters the bus stop and came back to see is everything is ok with the bus. I spoke with the driver and he ask me for my details , I asked him if he is ok and if there's any damage on the bus and he said yes. So I give him my details and he said to me my insurance will contact yours. And that's it. After 2 days I contacted my insurance and I explained them for the accident and situation and I've been told on the day of the accident I wasnt cover , so they cant cover any claims. And they send me a letter to sign for consent of claim if the third party claim. Also a repudiation letter. So I dont know what is coming next for me. Never been in this situation before , any advice. Btw afte the conversation with them ,I add commuting to my insurance.
