The best food you've ever had at a wedding?

Obviously inspired by the worst wedding food thread.

Nothing sticks out about sky if the food I've had at weddings,it's usually been done sort of average meat and two veg.

Youngest DD's wedding - Pie & Mash van!
Historic, edible and totally non-pretentious.

Our wedding! We had a whole lamb roast on a bed of rice from an Armenian restaurant, people still talk about how good the food was Grin

Proper old fashioned wedding reception in a working mens club a few years back. There was a proper buffet with tons of food, homemade quiches, triffles, the lot.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/09/2021 07:48

Actually,it was possibly a goat as it was huge....it was 25 years ago,it was deliciousGrin

MintyGreenDream · 07/09/2021 07:49

I'd actually prefer cold food to hot at a wedding.Id much rather have a fresh soft sandwich or a homemade quiche instead of a half arsed chicken dinner.

Jamaican wedding. Curry goat, rice and peas amongst so much food. It was fantastic.

I go to a lot of Asian weddings and the food is always good, albeit always the same. Though as someone from a country that does salad very very well I wish they just didn’t serve salad. But I always come away satisfied and having enjoyed the food.

My own wedding!

We made a list of what we didn't want (tiny portions of silly fancy cuisine, big waits between courses, speeches partway through, guests going hungry, meat) and went for a vegetarian buffet of Middle Eastern themed food. It was kosher, which made it the most expensive part of the day, but people still talk about it to this day. Even our avowed carnivore friend loved it.

I went to a wedding in Singapore. It was like 7 mini courses of delicacies, squid etc. The locals were all “oh god, not this again” as apparently all weddings serve pretty much the exact same menu 😂

usernotfound0000 · 07/09/2021 07:54

Wedding near the sea where proper fish and chips were served, they were so good! But did make everyone very sleepy in the lull between food and evening reception!

whatthejiggeries · 07/09/2021 07:54

All wedding food in generally meh and I can't remember any meals (including mine) except the fish and chip van which was great

Ratonastick · 07/09/2021 07:58

My friend’s wedding a few years back. Smoked mackerel to start, fillet steak for main and lemon posset for dessert. Most people were not impressed but it was basically what I would have picked from a menu!

namechange7865 · 07/09/2021 07:58

Honestly can't think of a single wedding I've been to where the food wowed, mass catering will always have its limits.

OnlyTheLangOfTheTitberg · 07/09/2021 08:03

I can only remember one that sticks out in a good way and it was probably the most “on a budget” of them all: a buffet with different pizzas, a huge cheese board and some lovely homemade potato salad / coleslaw type accompaniments.

idontlikealdi · 07/09/2021 08:10

The inky wedding where I clearly remember the food was a Hindu wedding - vegetarian Indian food and it was amazing. There were 1000 people there so you absolutely can mass cater well above the bland wedding chicken with a sauce type things.

idontlikealdi · 07/09/2021 08:11

*only

That's actually Not true, I remember one where the food was dreadful.

StrawberrySanta · 07/09/2021 08:12

My own wedding we had afternoon tea

SpindleWhorl · 07/09/2021 08:16

They are all unmemorable.

MintyGreenDream · 07/09/2021 08:18

@Ratonastick that sounds like my type of meal

2 and they were both Indian weddings. Lovely food and plenty of it.

CheekyAFAIK · 07/09/2021 08:20

A chip van that came at 9pm ish
A veg buffet that was delicious
Sri lankan buffet
Cornish pasties instead of canapes
High tea with scones, sandwiches and lots of teapots

Basically anything but unimaginative chicken in a sauce etc

BroccoliFloret · 07/09/2021 08:21

A dessert buffet at a German wedding, instead of gifts the couple had asked some guests to make and bring a dessert - there was a table heaving with cheesecakes, tarts, gateaux, pastries... it was AMAZING.

LeNil · 07/09/2021 08:22

French Spanish wedding, greeted with fans and lemon water, it was a hot day! There wasnt a starter at the table but food stands in the grounds, so a Spanish ham and rioja table, grilled scallops and seafood ( grilled in front of you)with white wine or champagne, grilled foie gras stand, gin and tonic table with canapés and waiter/ess constantly circulating with trays of smoked salmon, gaspacho, tempura, samosas etc. Live music and children playing.
Similar Spanish/French wedding this time in Spain no children, but amazing food beautifully presented!
I always prefer the canapés to the actual meals.

LubaLuca · 07/09/2021 08:23

The only one I can particularly remember was a HUGE Indian wedding in Bradford. How they managed to produce so much delicious food, with so much variety, and serve it piping hot I have no idea, but it was spectacular.

8dpwoah · 07/09/2021 10:08

Two stick out- a choice of fish and chips or curry, and a massive 'dry' vegetarian Hindu wedding that had every kind of vegetarian dish you could think of and also every kind of soft drink imaginable. Everywhere else I've been it's either been a sad lump of meat with things, or a vegetarian option of a stuffed pepper or a tart, which I generally go for because it's still a lot nicer than the lump of meat with stuff option.
