We have a fox family in our garden

We've got chickens so we quite often get a visit from the fox. The chickens are in a super secure fox proof location so am not worried about them. I have started leaving a few extra eggs on the lawn and tonight instead of 1 fox there was 3 Shock

They just sat chilled on the lawn while the bigger one had a good sniff around the place.

You seem to have attracted a unicorn too. Looks like it’s eaten one too many eggs.

Breathmiller · 05/09/2021 22:24

Forget the Fox!! You've also got a unicorn visiting. Grin

Gotmyhoops · 05/09/2021 22:24

Aww, how lovely, they are much maligned. I feed ours and they never go near our chooks.

Autumnally · 05/09/2021 22:25

We have foxes, and if we wake up really early we sometimes see the Cubs playing. Was a lovely surprise on our second morning in this house.

AmelieLovesAutumn · 05/09/2021 22:29

Lovely! We used to have a lovely Mr Fox & a cute Miss Squirrel, both regular visitors.

We fell out when Mr Fox didn't mind his manners🥲

We’ve had a family (several generations) visiting for several years and we feed them. Currently we have an adult female who turns up every evening for food and waits, with increasing impatience, for us to feed her. There’s another mother with 2 Cubs but they are very wary of humans.

I had some eggs which were out of date so started putting one out for the lone female. She was funny the first few times trying to pick it up (no chickens round here) but, after our neighbour wondered where all the eggshells were coming from, she now has her egg broken onto a plate.

whatfreshheck · 05/09/2021 22:39

Wow!! You are so lucky!

Surewhynot · 05/09/2021 22:44

We had a fox family which dug under our garden office. They caused a lot of damage, wrecked all the plant beds by the office, shat everywhere and we couldn’t wait to get rid of them. They also chased off the hedgehogs that we’d had in the garden until then.

We had to wait until they were all out from under the office and block up every single tiny gap or place where they could dig. Even then they tried really hard to get back under and we’d come out every morning to piles of gravel, plants, fox shit and earth everywhere.

Unfortunately, so many people just go ‘awww cute liddle foxes’ and leave food out for them so everyone’s gardens are plagued with the fuckers.

Good photos
Foxes are beautiful and sadly, have been forced to live amongst humans
Not their fault - or choice probably

thinkfast · 05/09/2021 22:58

Foxes are a real pest round here. Shit everyone. Knock over bins. Spread litter up and down the road. And so fucking noisy! I hate them

Hellocatshome · 05/09/2021 23:00

Aww I love foxes we would never get them even though we are urban we are the wrong kind of urban for foxes, we literally get nothing apart from seagulls. I would quite like a visiting unicorn as well but I dont think I'll get one of those either.

Catatafish · 05/09/2021 23:01

Lovely! I love fox friends.

ForCluckSake · 05/09/2021 23:04

They do get a lot of hate foxes but if you do some research about them the are normally digging for worms and bugs in the soil because they are hungry or to hide an egg or two normally in my case.

They have yet to shit in the garden but nothing a poo bag won't solve. Grin

Yes come winter they quite literally screech and shag all night and are so noisy but I don't mind so much.

Oh yes the unicorn comes for the magic eggs Grin

We have one too. I think you are mad for encouraging them, not that it makes much difference I suppose as once they are there, they are impossible to get rid of. I’m just sick of destroyed plants, I’ve given up with trying to have flowers in the garden, just tough bushes and even those get dug up. Not to mention deep holes and poos everywhere, broken trampoline safety net, broken water feature, bird carcasses left lying around and anything that’s not nailed down stolen and shredded.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/09/2021 23:08

How lucky are you? Foxes are fantastic.

BeaucoupFish · 05/09/2021 23:09

Lovely house and garden too OP

Catatafish · 05/09/2021 23:11

If I buy some eggs and scatter them about the garden will I get fox pals?

Gotmyhoops · 05/09/2021 23:11

Exactly, so much ignorance about foxes. The arrogance of humans unfortunately. Hedgehogs chase off my fox family, I can see it on my wildlife cameras. The people that hate them are really not very intelligent.
ForCluckSake · 05/09/2021 23:13

It killed a chicken a few weeks ago my fault completely they were out late free ranging so it's already around attracted to the chooks. Would rather feed it than have it hungry and try get into the run. Since I've started feeding it it's not taken one bit of notice to the chickens or even gone near the run from what I've seen.

I have a hedgehog family and a visiting fox, all seem to cohabit fine with my cat as does the cat with the squirrels in the day which are currently on ground a lot foraging hazelnuts which have ripened all of sudden. I love them all…
My neighbours on the other hand…..

OneEpisode · 05/09/2021 23:18

Is your run fully electrified? Foxes, like humans will kill even when not hungry?

ForCluckSake · 05/09/2021 23:22

I heard the fox the other night in the front garden (walking on slate chippings and am a super light sleeper) ran to window and the neighbours cat was going mad at it, poor fox was terrified Grin

We have lots of squirrels. I have a pear tree on one side of the garden and this year we've got a good crop of pears when last year we had none. I caught a squirrel biting loads down and not even eating them so I said to myself that cheeky little bastard not even eating them.... Well my 4 year old noticed the squirrel in the tree the other day and shouts oi cheeky bastard Blush I shouldn't have laughed but it was brilliant

Aww. I also have a fox family living at the end of my garden. I don't see them much but my neighbour takes photos and I heear them. I don't feed them though. We are rural so I think they have enough around tp keep breeding.
