Annoying people in exercise classes

I did Pilates this morning and the teacher is fab. I love her classes. But there was a new person in the class today and ALL she did was question the teacher.

‘I’ve been doing Pilates 30 years and we were never taught this way.’

‘Are you sure? I was always taught to have my arms this way.’

‘How long have you been teaching? My previous teacher said it should be done like this.’

AAARGH! SHUTUP SHUTUP SHUTUP!

Then we got to the stretches and she was literally moaning as though she was having an orgasm. It was really odd and rude.

And don’t get me started on the men who breathe competitively in Pilates. Grin

@CovidCorvid

As I'm sat waiting for pump class to start I'll add another.

The woman who turns up to pump every week with her two young kids, they're about 5yo. She stands and watches while they set up for her. Lots of running about, squealing and full volume arguement between the kids about who gets to carry what. While she stands there smiling.

Just fuck off.

She brings her kids in? How is that allowed? My gym is very family-friendly but there’s no way kids that young would be allowed into a class let along handling the weights.

There was a woman at my old gym, I'm sure she was sent straight from hell to do my head in. Early Saturday morning Body Balance class; she'd rock up ten minutes late and ask tell everyone to move so she could get a prime spot. Everyone would move their mats and let her in Angry

She once literally stole my place in Body Pump; I put my step down and turned my back to grab the weights, in that time she was standing at my step with her towel, all ready to go Hmm I told her politely to fucking move her stuff Grin

@PresidentJoey
I was standing waiting for an aerobics class to start. This woman stood right up close to me and looked me up and down, and said “I usually go here” just expecting me to bugger off!

I didn’t. It was weird.

It is weird, who the hell cares where anyone stands in an aerobics class?

I do wonder if some of these women were prefects at school and revelled in bossing others around? Grin

@Surewhynot they just come in to set up before the class actually starts and then leave. So before the instructor has arrived. 🤷‍♀️ They’re gone by the time the class starts….it’s just the shouting and arguing and running about is a bit much that early in the morning! Grin

@Moonface123

This is why l much prefer exercising in comfort of my own home. There are some good Pilate and yoga instructors on youtube. Nice to mix it up.
Can you recommend a Pilates online? I do yoga with Adrienne, but haven’t found a similar good Pilates one.

There’s a new annoying person in the Pilates class.

We use these football-sized squishy rubber balls for a couple of the exercises and this guy picked one up and started kicking it around the studio as though he was playing football. He was the only man in the class that night (usually there are a few).

Bearing in mind that this was a few minutes before the class started so the instructor hadn’t got there yet, but most of the attendees were there and either standing talking or lying on their mats and this bellend decided to channel his inner Ronaldo. It was really annoying but also slightly amusing because he was kicking this ball around then launched it at the back wall and did a pretend goal celebration and all the women in the class totally ignored him.

I've been doing exercise classes for over 35 years and recognise all of these!

But never mind the participants - what about annoying instructors? Male body pump tutors who conduct the whole class facing themselves in the mirror and are completely engrossed in their own reflections? Yoga teachers who never observe the class because they are so focussed on their own practice? Aerobics instructors who do the same choreography to the same music week in and week out? Or one teacher I went to for years who turned later and later for classes until the studio sacked her?

Blimey, I’ve never once encountered class instructors like that but I’d 100% complain if I did.

The only time I’ve had to complain directly about an instructor was when I booked some PT for strength. He was utterly useless, turned up late for my first session then failed to turn up for the subsequent ones. I’d booked a block of sessions so I cancelled them and got a load of pleading messages from him apologising. My reaction was, well, we had appointments and you chose not to show or call me so tough shit.
