Looking for CORDED vacuum recommendations

And I don't want a Dyson either.

So tempted just to go with a Henry, maybe even a wet and dry Henry.
I liked the idea of a Miele but upon reading they are better on hard surfaces and I have a fair amount of wool carpets in our house.

So hit me with your corded vacuum recommendations please :)

Shark

icelollycraving · 04/09/2021 13:39

Shark.

LakeShoreD · 04/09/2021 13:41

We have a Henry. It doesn’t get a great deal of use because we have weekly cleaner and a Roomba but when I do get it out I have no complaints. I don’t have carpets but it’s fantastic for hoovering upholstery, particularly the cat’s favourite wool chair. My mum has the Miele and I don’t find it as good.

Any particular model?

See I kinda feel shark are a but faddy like to be the competitor to Dyson but are they actually any better than like a run of the mill vacuum?

I have a cordless Vax at the moment and the but I hate is the inlet to the cylinder is so tight that it is constantly clogged and when I've looked at shark corded, they seem tight too.
Does anyone have an issue with the Inlet from the hose to the cylinder blocking up all the time?

Good to know @lakeshoreD.i just got a cleaner but she uses our vacuum and she has trouble with it clogging too

Shark. I've had a Dyson which was ok, then died. Tried a Henry and it was just too much of a pita to get up and down the stairs etc, I kept banging it into door frames or furniture. It wasn't even that good at picking up.

I have a dog and used to have to rubber brush my carpets then hoover to get the fur up properly, the shark is so powerful that it almost lifts the carpets up on full pelt. Sooo much easier with the lift away bit to do the stairs too.

DowntrainTrain · 04/09/2021 13:49

Henry - every time!!

Tried so many others over the years, from the expensive ( Dyson👎 ) and Vax ( had 2 versions both awful ) to the cheap ( that blew up!)

So back to Henry!

Does everything I want, will never try another brand.

Horehound · 04/09/2021 13:50

Argh so torn now between Henry and sharks lol

I'd recommend Henry, I love ours.

Horehound · 04/09/2021 13:51

See my cleaner says she prefers Henry's and that's what she uses at home but then she also said "and they are cheap so if they break you just get another one" and I'm thinking err I don't want my hoovers to just break and be replaced!

Shark

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 04/09/2021 14:06

We've got a shark This one

And I use a Henry at work.

The Shark is great for the anti-hair wrap (I have a very long haired DD), it's very light and the lift-away bit is brilliant for doing stairs and the car. I've had it a little over a year (lockdown purchase Wink) and it replaced a very old and heavy dyson.

The Henry (at least 20 years old) has outlived 4 other hoovers that I know of, not overly powerful but it will pick up anything from day to day dust to straw and builders debris. being a cylinder it gets under chairs etc but is bulkier to store. Reliable as hell. We have a Dyson upright at work too, but there are jobs it just won't do (like xmas tree needles ffs).

I can see why people love Henrys but generally I get on better with upright hoovers. We got the shark as the lift-away bit means I get the best of both worlds and it's easier to store as it's more compact. But it definitely won't last as long as a Henry Smile

FitzChivalry · 04/09/2021 14:18

I have an old miele and a new shark. In my opinion the miele is far better. I vaccum pretty much daily due to pets and I constantly have to unblock the shark.

Yes, the anti hair wrap thing is ok, but I've still had to cut it a few times and the suction is good, but when you use the hose while detached the suction is terrible, so cleaning the car etc is hard work.

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 04/09/2021 14:20

I bought a Henry Xtra recently and I really rate it. I've had 2 Dysons and a Shark and it beats them hands down.

FlowerArranger · 04/09/2021 14:23

8 have a hetty, which is I believe a slightly smaller Henry. Had it for years and years - it's a workhorse. It just sucks up everything in its way.

I have a Shark in my other home. It was wonderful the first 6-12 months but has deteriorated since.

My next vac will be a Hetty...

millymae · 04/09/2021 14:34

Henry’s are favoured by lots of people - I’ve got a Miele cylinder cleaned which is now 11 years old and still cleaning brilliantly, the only thing I’ve bought for it in the last 12 months is a new cleaning head which I got cheap on eBay.
Henry’s are quite heavy and wouldn’t be any good for me as I’d find cleaning the stairs difficult. My Miele is lighter than a Henry, has a good long cable and can balance on each stair as I vacuum. The head is adjustable and works on both hard and carpeted floors and the bags which can be bought fairly cheaply online are easy to fit and remove.

hashbrownsandwich · 04/09/2021 14:36

Oooh following as I'm in same situation.
I've tried cordless hoovers and they just don't have the suction power that corded do.

I've got a vax air lift pet max which is amazing but it's taken a battering this week and the spares will be as much as a new one so looking at all options.

PinkFootstool · 04/09/2021 14:39

Henry is an arsehole who will mark and dent every surface he hits, fall over when you least want him to and has the suction of an asthmatic cat.

Highly recommend something like this instead: www.toolstation.com/nilfisk-buddy-ii-12l-wet-dry-vacuum-cleaner/p65733 I bought it for a house refurb and sold Henry on the same day. I'd no idea my old door mats could be so clean!

Tulips15 · 04/09/2021 14:39

I have a shark lift away.
It was initally good on carpet, lost a lot of suction now (1year on) it is useless on hard floor so only used on carpet thats upstairs.
It hasnt been used for 3 months as I cant be bothered to cut the hair wrapped around the roller- its a chore after a few uses everytime!
So my trusty 8 yr old Henry is still used daily on the hard floors all downstairs and once a week upstairs.

bookh · 04/09/2021 14:42

After about three months reading a million threads and reviews I've just bought a sebo. It's bagged which made me dither for ages but I have to say it's excellent.

I had a dyson for fifteen years, then went onto have a shark, a dyson, a shark and now this. I did the entire house and then changed the bag, but the shark hadn't touched it going by the amount it lifted, that was about July and the bag is now about a third full, so probably needs changing mYbe every three months usually.

Two kids, four dogs, farmers wife, ie, a ridiculous amount of crap, literally.

enjoyingscience · 04/09/2021 14:42

Henry. Mines at least ten years old and going strong.

My mam has a Sebo which she really rates if you prefer an upright.

NanTheWiser · 04/09/2021 14:59

SEBO.

That’s all.

ItWasAgathaAllAlong · 04/09/2021 15:16

Miele cat and dog. We have mostly carpets - it literally threatens to life the carpet from the underlay! And we have some hard floors too.

I have had 3 Mieles now. Wouldn't consider any other kind - and we have 6 cats, so need the suction!

ItWasAgathaAllAlong · 04/09/2021 15:17

lift, not life Grin

mbosnz · 04/09/2021 15:22

Miele cat and dog, and I consciously replicated that vac' when we moved over here.
