Talk to me about Mini SUV's

IndieTara · 04/09/2021 13:06

I am in the position of being able to buy myself a new car November time and have been thinking I'd like a mini suv that's 1 or 2 yrs old Max
My current car is a 12 yr old Ford Focus.
I've been recommended a Ford EcoSport. ( I do like the Ford front heated windscreen )
What are peoples experiences or suggestions please?

I had a Vitara which was great and now have a Volvo XC40 which I really love.

HollyGoLoudly1 · 04/09/2021 13:17

Do you need much boot space? That's the one downside for me, the ones I know of all have quite small boots and aren't super practical if you need space for prams, dogs etc.

Boredmotherofone · 04/09/2021 14:23

I have a Ford Puma and the massively useful and massively large extra 'mega box' space in the boot is a huuuuge selling point. It even has a drain!!

I believe it gives you almost as many litres of boot space as a Skoda Kodiaq!!

Use the honest John website to look at which ones have 4 or 5 star reviews to whittle down which ones to go and test drive. It's a brilliant website for doing car research.

Before the usual "I hate crossovers & don't see the point of them" posters arrive, May I just say that for us disabled people, they're a god send!!! I can't bend & I'm unable to get into lower vehicles. My mum has an estate and I can't get into it - at all! For millions of disabled people, crossovers are a wonderful solution & provide independence without having the cost & environmental guilt of driving around in a full SUV

IndieTara · 04/09/2021 15:50

@Boredmotherofone this is the reason I want a slightly higher up car. Glad they work for you

VW T Cross is a Polo but jacked up, compact but sounds like it could be good for you

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 04/09/2021 16:01

My husband has the Ecosport and really likes it. I have a VW T-Roc. Love being high up as I'm a shortarse.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 04/09/2021 16:11

Skoda Karoq has a massive boot and you can remove the rear seats altogether should you need to.

Skoda Kamiq is a bit smaller again, but spacious enough. I’ve got the Monte Carlo and it’s very nippy and very comfortable. Skoda seats have excellent lumbar support.

IndieTara · 04/09/2021 16:11

Thanks @Student133 I hadn't heard of the T Cross but I really like it

@Foxyloxy1plus1 I'd looked online at the Kamiq so it's good to
Know about the seats

I have a ds3 crossback and love it, plenty space in the back for the kids, plenty boot space for all my nurse stuff and I also like the higher up cars, struggle to get in and out of smaller cars now

Dogsorlogs · 04/09/2021 19:43

I had a T Cross, absolutely loved it. Only got rid as swapped to a company car or I would have kept it forever.

I had the 1l petrol and it never felt too slow. I got 2 kids and 2 medium size dogs in. Also managed a holiday with 3 car seats and 2 adults in it, like a tardis.

Super cheap to insure and run.

Dogsorlogs · 04/09/2021 19:44

Also the rear seats in the t Cross slide forward and back so you can increase boot space if needed

Boohooyouho · 04/09/2021 19:46

I have a Vitara and I love it. So much so that I’m picking up a new one this week. Plenty of space in the boot for a dog cage if you need one.

Soontobe60 · 04/09/2021 19:54

I’ve got a T Roc and love if. I’m short with a dodgy back and knee. I can easily fit 2 grandchildren in the back

MiloAndEddie · 04/09/2021 20:05

I’m not sure what the deal is on the newer ones but the boot door on an eco sport is absolutely batshit. It’s hinged on the left rather than opening upwards so you need loads of bloody space to get it open.

I’m a skoda convert, fab cars with lots of practical things like rear seats that slide forward for more boot space etc.

campista · 04/09/2021 21:13

Just bought a mini countryman. Nice and high, very economical, but was a bit dearer than the ecosport, which we also looked at.

MissMatty2hats · 04/09/2021 21:29

I had an ecosport and I did love it and I wanted to get the same again but the salesman talked me out if it. They’re phasing them out and he told me it wouldn’t hold its value. Also there was a three month wait for one. He convinced me to get a Puma but I wasn’t completely convinced. I was so wrong, I absolutely love it! It’s drives like dream, so much fun and it sticks to the road like glue. The boot is enormous, there’s so much space in the cabin and it’s really comfy on long trips. It’s a mild hybrid and I find I’m using less petrol. I’m definitely getting another one next time.

IndieTara · 05/09/2021 12:09

@campista would never have thought of a mini

IndieTara · 05/09/2021 12:10

@MissMatty2hats the Puma spec I've just read says that it's only a 3 cm higher ride than a Fiesta. Does it feel higher?

Mazda CX-3 is really good, I always think the design is nice (not a given for small SUVs).
