Talk to me about Mini SUV's

I am in the position of being able to buy myself a new car November time and have been thinking I'd like a mini suv that's 1 or 2 yrs old Max
My current car is a 12 yr old Ford Focus.
I've been recommended a Ford EcoSport. ( I do like the Ford front heated windscreen )
What are peoples experiences or suggestions please?

I would definitely check that the other cars you're considering have heated front screens. IMO that's a big bonus.

It really does, I was quite surprised. It was the main reason I didn’t want it, I’d gotten used to that feeling of height in the ecosport. I can really feel the difference when I get into my husbands car, that feels like sitting on the ground now.

@IloveJudgeJudy I don't think any of them do, just Fords

I've got a Mini Countryman S and it is amazing I love it. Seating position is great, plenty of room inside and the boot holds a lot!

I’ve got a VW Tiguan, not small I know, but absolutely beautiful. I’d have got a T-Roc but it wouldn’t fit my scooter in. When we get rid of our Polo we’re getting a T-Cross. VWs are so comfortable if you’ve got aches and pains.

I found the Mazda cx3 quite small, I was looking to upgrade from the Mazda 3 and the boot wasn’t as big. It’s built on the Mazda 2 chassis not the 3. I have a Honda HRV and love it. Great boot, extra space under the base of the boot, masses of leg room for passengers in the back and on all hondas the back seats flip up to provide loads of space in the rear footwell too.

I've got a Fiat 500X which I really like, huge boot, maximum NCAAP rating, quite good mpg, looks great. I do a commute through some awful country lanes and on a motorway and it does well on both. I've got keyless entry on it which is fantastic, no hunting for keys, as long as they're on me it just opens as I approach.

@Boohooyouho, i am considering a Vitara too, if u got yours new, did u have to wait long?

Boohooyouho · 05/09/2021 22:12

Ordered mine a week ago and was told January, but they managed to find me one the same spec up north and they’re getting it brought down for me. I pick it up this week. There are a few knocking about, it’s just finding the right one. The dealer said they’re all trading stock of the new cars with each other

We have a Jeep Renegade.. nice and high, great boot (can get a large dog and the pram in) and very economical (diesel). Ours is also banana yellow which is great for finding in a car park Grin I didn't think I'd like it but it's fab.

Our other car is..don't laugh.. a Fiat Panda 4x4.. very nice for getting into (back problems here) I can still get the dog in the boot and it tackles all weathers and laughs at bigger 4x4s ..it goes anywhere!

YogaLite · 05/09/2021 22:19

Thank u @Boohooyouho, will check near me.

DeltaAlphaDelta · 05/09/2021 22:25

The MG ZS, while not a mini suv is a good choice. They have some really good deals on at the moment, and the base model has quite good spec for the money. The top of the range model is still relatively cheap and has loads more bells and whistles.

SamanthaJayne4 · 05/09/2021 22:55

I am on my 4th Vitara and also had a small Mitsubishi. The Vitara's are less expensive than other SUV's. These cars were purchased during 30 years and I liked them all and found them very stable on ice and snow in 4wd. My current Vitara is Allgrip but I haven't used that function yet. My car is 2 years old.

Maybe a little bigger but I love my Volvo XC40 R design pro automatic, especially the safety features.

@MissMatty2hats

I had an ecosport and I did love it and I wanted to get the same again but the salesman talked me out if it. They’re phasing them out and he told me it wouldn’t hold its value. Also there was a three month wait for one. He convinced me to get a Puma but I wasn’t completely convinced. I was so wrong, I absolutely love it! It’s drives like dream, so much fun and it sticks to the road like glue. The boot is enormous, there’s so much space in the cabin and it’s really comfy on long trips. It’s a mild hybrid and I find I’m using less petrol. I’m definitely getting another one next time.
I too have a Puma (isn't the extra space in the boot with the drain, so bizarre?!) except mine is not the mild hybrid..... My godddddd it's a thirsty car! 29mpg currently :(
