Who would pay nearly £2 mill for this house?

Well £1.7. I was just having my dreams of Belsize park when I saw this. Its exactly the same as the council house I was brought up in from the outside in the 1970s. No garden although it does look like a nice tidy little estate. Theres a lot of clutter I cant work out what type of people live there www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/110737514#/?channel=RES_BUY

No I fecking wouldn't. I live in Manchester and that ££ would buy a bloody castle up here along with my own butler and punkawala.

Doubledoorsontogarden · 03/09/2021 21:59

Nope.

Doubledoorsontogarden · 03/09/2021 21:59

And I’ve lived in London

CheerfulBunny · 03/09/2021 22:04

My friends sold a similar house in Barnes for that sort of money and bought a vicarage in a beautiful part of Sussex that they're now renovating with the piles of dosh they had left over. I know which one I'd rather have.

bellamountain · 03/09/2021 22:07

It resembles a Pontins chalet if I'm honest. I know the area too, how times have changed.

marble11 · 03/09/2021 22:10

@MrsKeats

That house in Cardiff is lovely.
It's a lovely part of the city too.
midsomermurderess · 03/09/2021 22:26

I rather like mid-century architecture and design. As for the price, well, surely it's the location, innit?

parietal · 03/09/2021 22:27

In that bit of London, the train you see marked on the map is deep underground. you wouldn't see or hear the train from that house.

It is a desirable location for schools, amenities, close to central London, short commute, nice area etc. Especially a large selection of top private schools in the area. and the price is comparable to many other houses in the area - many cost a lot more. So people are able & prepared to pay that amount. Crazy but true.

Embracelife · 03/09/2021 22:38

@TheFairyCaravan

That’s madness.

I’m another who is disgusted at the thought of people selling ex council houses for £2m. It’s so wrong.

Those house were always private. Several closes of similar houses. Although close to the chalcot estate towers they were not council. In 2007 the smaller ones were around 500k .
Bolshybun · 03/09/2021 22:41

Wow, seems expensive for what you get. But I am a tight Yorkshire lass after all 😊
It does seem to need modernisation and I wouldn’t class the space outside as anything significant. I’m sure the more knowledgeable amongst us will have a more informed opinion than mine!

EachandEveryone · 03/09/2021 22:47

@ Embracelife that might be so but the second one I posted was deffo ex council and looking at googlemaps you can see its an estate and a big one. The same price but on three floors. I can see why you wouldnt give up your council house in a hurry if youd rented it for 25 years its so convienient

KillerFlamingo · 03/09/2021 22:59

Well it's bigger than my house "Up North" but not by that much and I wouldn't fancy swapping.

Brindisi32 · 03/09/2021 23:03

3bed flat roof box = 1.7million? 😳 How do younger people in service sector jobs afford to live in London?? I like the decor but, wow, the price tag is extortionate. The decor suggests older people with an arts/crafts interest. Maybe they’re cashing in their chips and off to buy a country pile or a coastal cottage.

Embracelife · 03/09/2021 23:04

As far as I know all those closes /town houses have always been private owned.
Some like the style some don't.

But yeh many people made big huge gains in property price in London last decade and some were bought and sold ex council in the 1990s. Crazy London prices.

It's insane. My friend works in retail in central London. Most of the staff commute at least an hour sometimes 2 hours to work. So the answer is....they probably live in zone 5 or further afield.

saleorbouy · 03/09/2021 23:15

I'd rather have this, on the market near me. Ok it's not London but much better value and views tomake you smile. You'd get some change so could by a helicopter for the days WFH don't work.Grin

NotAnotherUserNumber · 03/09/2021 23:16

@Brindisi32 Most Londoners live in flats and many people rent. Only a tiny minority will be able to afford a house like this. A spacious 3 bed house with a garage, garden and roof terrace just isn’t your typical London home.

EachandEveryone · 03/09/2021 23:52

Ill just tell you now. When my numbers come up I’ll be buying this its my perfect London location www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/108170171#/?channel=RES_BUY

I bet that flat roof is a nightmare to maintain.
Safer to buy something like this nearish to where I live:

www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/59598433/?search_identifier=7abccdfbf79f078eb1095e2c50d0c77c

Or this:

www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/59555075/?search_identifier=7abccdfbf79f078eb1095e2c50d0c77c

And you'd still have spare change to pay for a pool if you wanted.
London prices are insane, particularly now when a lot of people can work from home.

I’ve been trying to form an answer that didn’t include the words Fucking and Hell. But no, I can’t.
Can get a lovely 5 bed farm house with a separate 2 bed annexe, 100 acres of grazing land and 16 stables for that money where I am.

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/106653257#/?channel=RES_BUY
And a quarter of a million pounds left over for some horses?

WTF475878237NC · 04/09/2021 01:16

You'd get this here for that kind of price

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/78561651#/?channel=RES_BUY

There's something really off putting about a spiral staircase. I think I must have seen one in a horror film or something. It's almost visceral!

WTF475878237NC · 04/09/2021 01:18

@SleepingStandingUp

Oh yes now that I love! The ceilings are gorgeous. What a hallway.
