... and my DDs primary school have still not told parents anything about the arrangements for next week.

We don't know:

  • What the arrival time is
  • What the end of day time is
  • If staggered starts / finishes remain
  • Where on the site to take our child
  • What the rules are for site access, mask wearing (we had to wear masks in the playground for pick up and drop off until the end of the summer term)
  • What can be brought in from home, or not.

I am lucky in that my working hours are fairly flexible but even so this is stressing me out.

Is it just me, or is this ridiculous?

They go back on Tuesday. Wouldn't be surprised if we got an email on Monday afternoon.

2pm!! Not three. Fat fingers.

I'm still just as annoyed though. Grin

We got an email yesterday afternoon for this morning. Which was when I was expecting it really... Wednesday and Thursday were their INSET days, which is when they would be finalising plans based on up to date guidance.

Hidehi4 · 03/09/2021 14:05

Are they just starting reception as wouldn’t it just be what normally happened before they broke up. They might have the teachers name on the different doors for their new class. If not in reception it would be normal times. Have you had a look on the school website

Email landed at 12:59, to be fair in their position I'd be holding out for the latest possible time too given the amount of last minute decisions made last year.

Noworneverever · 03/09/2021 14:10

We got an email 3.30 yesterday telling us Monday would be inset day. Hasn't left much time for organising childcare.

CaptainMarvelous · 03/09/2021 14:10

If the head is anything like ours, they will wait till 5.30pm on Friday to send anything out so they can immediately go home and not have to deal with the replies Grin I only recognise this behaviour because I do exactly the same in Local Government

Fcuk38 · 03/09/2021 14:11

Have you asked?

No, going into year 3.

But they school kept all the staggered starts and different Covid routes, doors, rules etc after the DfE said to drop them so I can't use the end of last year as a basis for this one. Also with DD moving to the juniors part of the school the day and routines change slightly, but I don't know exactly what used to happen as she's my eldest, and I don't expect it will be back to business as normal anyway.

But lots of schools are already back, so there isn't going to be any last minute "before schools open" advice from the DfE at this stage.

If they know what's happening and aren't telling parents, so that they don't have to deal with complaints, that's really twattish as it will cause unnecessary stress and hassle to working parents in particular.

If they don't know they are seriously fucking disorganised and need to pull their finger out. For their staff as well as their pupils and their families.

I'm leaning towards the latter, especially as the message on the website from the head states "I will be writing to parents this week to confirm arrangements" but there's no fucking date on the message! So "this week" is pretty damn useless.

Yes funnily enough we get a lot of the big information emails at 3.55 on a Friday. Hmm

We got ours on Tuesday for Thursday, senior secondary school. Private school. No restrictions at all, except voluntary LFTs next week two days after they return.

All parents in for all sports, musical events etc.

actiongirl1978 · 03/09/2021 14:20

I'd be really annoyed if I was you OP

Seainasive · 03/09/2021 14:24

Does the school not have a website? I don’t understand why you are waiting for an email

Daisy829 · 03/09/2021 14:26

Same. We go back on Monday. They always do this. Email after school hours so parents can’t contact them!

Daisy829 · 03/09/2021 14:28

I actually think it will all be back to normal at our school which I’m sort of dreading. I liked dropping the kids at the gate rather than going into the grounds. So much quicker and easier.

Marcee · 03/09/2021 14:31

Ours started this week.

We got zero information about anything.

I've had to check the website for the uniform. And asked family whose kids already go- about drop offs and pick ups.

Also on their website was a short video for new parents- welcome and all the information I needed. But no one actually told us about this. I just found it in the afternoon after I'd stopped my kid off.- obviously due to this parents didn't know about staggered pick ups- so they texted people the next day about pick up times.

I didnt get a text but my sister who doesn't have any kids at the school got the text.

HocusPocuss · 03/09/2021 14:32

We got an email and a text message (on the school app) at 5pm on Wednesday evening, when first day back was Thursday 2nd. The 31st and 1st were inset days so I presume they were going over all of that then.

Thoughtcontagion · 03/09/2021 14:33

Mine DD primary went back yesterday all back to normal, no masks, no one way systems, no bubbles

Secondary back Tuesday - LFT twice weekly including Monday before they go back, haven’t heard any more as yet.

Theunamedcat · 03/09/2021 14:33

Ours announced at the end of term they are changing it back to one start/finish time and they are now mixing as a whole school again we will have an email today detailing about masks

GameSetMatch · 03/09/2021 14:41

My son went back on Wednesday, it’s pretty much the same as before COVID times, nothing in place to stop COVID so we will just have to wait and see what happens.

idontlikealdi · 03/09/2021 14:42

Ours is a mess. Ditched staggered starting, now have to queue down the road to get them in. The neighbours must be delighted. We had no notification.

Don't assume it's the same across all schools pp.

The first day in September is always an INSET day
beigebrownblue · 03/09/2021 14:45

I wonder if they are waiting for an announcement on vaccinations for under twelves.

Mine at college now and went back this week. Vaccinations at college and done. DD has just turned sixteen.

SummerHouse · 03/09/2021 14:45

We got an email today for Monday. Very happy with that. If they sent it in August I would have been in "couldn't give a flying shit" mode and totally forgotten about it.

To be fair I still have shoes to buy so this suits my style. You can't please all the people all the time.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 03/09/2021 14:46

We got our email at 7pm the night before!
