I need to buy a high quality winter coat in a petite length

It looks like Precis no longer exists.

I need a proper, good quality winter coat with at least 70% wool, not another polyester thing.

I'm 5ft 1 and it needs to be in a petite length, but nobody seems to be making quality petites any more. Please help!

I'm not prepared to risk Ebay any more. Last year I tried buying two different Precis coats on Ebay, two different sellers, and both of them arrived absolutely stinking of air freshener and perfume etc and I couldn't get the smell out. So I do need to find a proper retailer to buy something new.

M&S - Per Una?

Mariell · 01/09/2021 11:16

Hobbs?

Not sure if petite - www.hobbs.com/search/?q=Wool%20coat%20

Boden might also be worth a look?

Toomuchis · 01/09/2021 11:35

Hobbs had petite winter coats last winter. Wool.

chickadeee · 01/09/2021 11:44

I'm the same height as you. I have a coat from samsoe and Samsoe. They come up big so size down. It is absolutely beautiful and keeps me very warm.

tectonicplates · 01/09/2021 12:46

Nothing for me at Per Una, and the Hobbs ones still aren't quite what I'm looking for as I'd prefer a long coat rather than half/three quarter length.

Precis coats were basically perfect and now so many shops have closed.

Any other ideas please?

Boden?

Leftbutcameback · 01/09/2021 16:23

Would it be worth trying on some non-petite ones (like in John Lewis) and then getting a tailor to alter? It depends whether the shape would look right but I often find it's just the sleeves and length that's too long, and it's fine when altered

tectonicplates · 01/09/2021 17:04

It's not just the sleeve lengths, it's about the positioning of the waist and hips.

The Boden ones aren't "proper winter coat" enough, unfortunately.

And I've always found Hobbs clothing so shapeless. I buy most of my clothes from Collectif due to the waist-to-hip ratio, but their coats just aren't made of wool and the fabric is really important. I do have a Collectif coat that's made of polyester and it's nowhere near as warm as my Precis one. I can't wear my Precis one any more as it's a size 10, and I really need a 12 or 14 now.

Just had a look through J Crew and unfortunately they're not "proper winter coat" enough either. It was worth a look though.

Seasalt do some petite coats I believe

ISpyCobraKai · 01/09/2021 17:24

I have a Merrel Haven and I'm 5foot.
It's lasted years, but Im not sure they make it anymore.
I also have a padded Superdry, (no obvious branding), that's like wearing a duvet.

tectonicplates · 01/09/2021 17:25

This is the sort of thing they used to make, so I'd love to find something similar: www.brandalley.co.uk/1387458.html

Ah, that's really not my style. I'm really looking for a woollen coat, the sort of thing that's smart enough to go with everything.

I bought a grey wool coat from phase 8 last year and I love it. I'm 5 ft 3. It's great quality and really warm.

Leftbutcameback · 01/09/2021 20:39

Would it be worth getting one made for you? No idea how much that would cost but could be a good investment?

TractorAndHeadphones · 01/09/2021 20:41

Regatta

Blueeyedgirl21 · 01/09/2021 20:46

When you say proper winter coat, I think north face or didriksons, as I live rurally and want down, waterproof and practical.

Do you mean like a wool coat that you’d wear for a smart business type outfit ?

Blueeyedgirl21 · 01/09/2021 20:51

Sorry meant to say on my post I’ve had a French Connection wool coat for a while it was nice. It was tan wool with a lining. I’m 5ft3 though. I think White Stuff do nice ones too. What about Monsoon?
