What makes you dislike your job?

Currently on my morning break and feel like running away!!!

Hoping other stories can give me a giggle.

My manager is the micromanager or all managers. We have to let him know what are plans for the day are, every task , everyday. They must be across all tasks (for no reason )
At the end of the day we must have accounted for every minute of everyday in a booking system with notes on every task.
We must notify everyone in the team chat when we make a drink, when we go to the loo etc (for no reason again - not a call centre or on a line?!)

None of us are trusted to do tasks a lot of the time he will 'do them with us' to help and it's just us sitting there watching them complete it (as simple as a stationary order) but we are all perfectly competent!

Constant criticism and judgement. Some things I can't say as very specific and outing (doubt anyone would have been told these things as quite shocking)

Just want to scream Angry

Why do you dislike your job? Is it worse?!

Oh Lordy he’s insufferable inadequate little man. No wonder you’re annoyed
I don’t actually have any current work stories just wanted to acknowledge your post
Closest I kind of came was a workplace where everyone was related and/or intertwined. So you constantly had to watch what you said, couldn’t make any comments or quips because everyone was dating, family or an ex

purpledagger · 01/09/2021 19:40

Admin for the sake of admin.

I've challenged my colleagues on processes and when I asked them why they were doing a particular task they couldn't answer, but still didn't want to stop doing it.

MintLeaves12 · 01/09/2021 19:59

@EspressoDoubleShot I'd hate that! It's like when workplaces say 'we are like a family' but literally Grin

@purpledagger ah yes! Nothing worse than tasks with absolutely no purpose Sad

The pay.

I like it apart from that but I'm not paid enough. Have asked for a raise both on my own account and also our entire team put in a request, took us ages to put together as well. But they said no. The only reason I can pay my rent is because I get benefits on top of my wages, so it's not enough live on even according to the government. So time to go.

AaalrightyThen · 01/09/2021 20:07

My own inability to get the less interesting things done! The boring bits that are a big part of the job - I would rather do anything else sometimes. Then I get stressed but generally I have no one to blame but myself.

RandomMess · 01/09/2021 20:09

In my wider team their is my manager and another one. That one is a micro manager control freak and their work impacts on ours.

I keep hoping he leaves or goes off long term sick so we can get on with doing our jobs and get rid of his unnecessary controlling accounting for breathing ways that take up loads of time and don't add value to what we need to achieve...

Bichette · 01/09/2021 20:10

Constantly having to chase people who don't deliver.
"I'll let you know" - 3 days later no news
"I'll phone you tomorrow" - no call
"I'll send you an email with the details" - never arrives
"I'll get you a quote for that ASAP" - nothing
"We'll be there next week" - no one turns up.
🤬🤯🤬🤯

LadyCatStark · 01/09/2021 20:11

Working from home, but your job sounds worse!

WildRosie · 01/09/2021 20:16

Unsociable hours. Lousy management. Lack of discipline and leadership. Lazy colleagues. Constantly being told what isn't allowed and the penalty for ignorance.

Justanotherlurker · 01/09/2021 20:36

Just spent a few months helping my collegue out managing her department while she is on maternity, I would like to call out stupid users, manslaining is rampant but not even on par to the amount of women who are downright abusive and rude and think that because thier DH works in IT makes them some how knowledgable.

I have realised front line helpdesk is the new equivilent of shop work, people are rude and it's gender neutral, in my anecodate it has been more women being outride rude. Glad I can hand over next week and get back into data mining to be honest.

MintLeaves12 · 01/09/2021 20:36

It's crazy how so many managers and colleagues are just so unaware Shock

A boss who is incapable of being a boss. Small company - only 10 of us and if u only want to work a couple of hours and then go home without telling anyone - no consequences! Does my nut in!

Mscarna · 01/09/2021 23:09

I left the last job because of time management (having to write down every task, when the writing down took longer than the task). It was pointless, tedious and made me feel permanently anxious. I could no longer cover the work in the time because of the time taken to write it all down.

Lyricallie · 01/09/2021 23:13

I like my organisation and my manager is great and so is my team. However the job itself is dull. Endless paperwork and calculations. Luckily there's lots of other development opportunities so they're paying for me to do a master's so fingers crossed don't need to stay in the boring role forever.

123feraverto · 01/09/2021 23:15

Short staffing

Managers that don't support their team

Team not respecting roles

Patients entitled attitudes / rudeness

People not replying to messages left for them - OT, doctors , other wards etc

(I'm a mental health nurse in a medium secure unit)

Mummasdiary2021 · 01/09/2021 23:20

The work part 🤣

CurryLover55 · 01/09/2021 23:23

I enjoy my job for the most part but there are some frustrating things which have gone on since I started there & really need to change. We get our rotas every Saturday ( luckily my hours don’t change that often but it’s still not what’s stated in the contract). Several times in a shift there are things not priced so we have to call someone over, which isn’t always quick, then they have to go off again to find the price. I work on a till & we can’t do very much at all ourselves eg voids, reductions etc so again we have to call a colleague over which can sometimes take a while. There is a huge amount of money available to make the whole system a lot more efficient but the guys high up are not using that money. The business owner is a billionaire! Plus we never get bonuses. The most I’ve had is a voucher for a hot drink & a cake from the in store cafe! Whoopee!!

Macaroni46 · 01/09/2021 23:24

Long hours with minimal breaks
Pointless meetings and overly long training sessions
Too much to do and an endless To Do list
Poor working conditions
Overload of new initiatives
Inflexible hours and days worked
Low pay / pay freeze
Negativity from some parts of the media

PepsiHoover · 01/09/2021 23:26

Urgh, your manager sounds like an arsehole.

I like my job. But I don't like management. It's too much to go into, but there is too much infighting and squabbling between them (whilst they pretend to be nice and friendly to one another). I'm sick of conflicting opinions from them both. I sent a piece of work to be signed off by my immediate supervisor, who signed it off. Come back off holiday to ranting email from the manager complaining about my work. Still not sure what was actually wrong with it TBH, because I had submitted five pieces of word for word identical work to the manager which were all been signed off. Confused

Cherrysoup · 01/09/2021 23:41

My immediate boss. She constantly interrupts. She wanted me to do something really essential today, I kept trying, she kept coming in to interrupt and ask me to do something for her which isn’t part of my role, it’s hers. She keeps contacting me outside of work hours even tho I was really clear about not wanting this. She then micromanages really petty details which aren’t important. She insists on us doing things when nobody else in the organisation is doing them-I honestly don’t know where she gets these bees in her bonnet from! Obsessive and really tedious. I’m looking to leave.

lljkk · 02/09/2021 01:20

People who don't answer emails.
Especially colleagues who are paid to collaborate with me.
(Contacting each other by any other means is considered unacceptable.)
People who never make decisions.

Mintjulia · 02/09/2021 01:51

My last job, it was the petty nastiness, gossiping, lying to the boss, briefing against people behind their backs rather than just talking to them. The blame culture and an astonishing amount of small minded unproductive spite. It was just tiring.

Moving to a new company has been great Smile

JustGiveMeGin · 02/09/2021 06:16

The monotonous nature of any job gets me in the end. I left a decent, well paid administrative type role relatively recently and changed role completely (think something like working with animals but it's not) still bored as fuck! I like my colleagues, the job itself is objectively interesting and the hours suit me.....still fed up though.

In an ideal world I would win the euro millions and just do what I want when I want. I have realised that no matter what job I do I won't be 'fulfilled' because my fulfillment doesn't come from working.
Sadly bills come before fulfillment so I have to stick out my 40 hours a week of misery Hmm

Coffeetree · 02/09/2021 06:30

What I hate about being a solicitor with vulnerable clients (many of them on Legal Aid) is that the billable amount is far lower than the amount of work required to do an adequate job. Which means I'm constantly stuck between my bosses and my clients.

I have actually brought up to my bosses, "Look why don't we give up the Legal Aid contract?" But instead of talking sensibly about I just get gaslit, like "Oh silly coffee tree it shouldn't take you more than two hours to prep for an appeal!" Drafting complex submissions after taking statements from sobbing clients. Okay then, guess I'm just slow.

WorriedMillie · 02/09/2021 06:37

Toxicity within the organisation (mostly management)
I think it’s why they keep losing decent staff
And having to log every minute of my working day (this is a recent thing and takes ages). It’s making me less productive overall, as I’m now aware of how much extra I was doing (the odd 30 min a day adds up), so has kind of backfired Grin
