Anyone know? Are Dry Robes really the best or is there a cheaper one that works as well?

I use a northcore robe. Has got me through a winter of skins swimming!

Bootdilemma · 01/09/2021 07:57

I have an equidry - like dryrobes but you can ride in them. Its a bit hot and heavy but I could stand outside in minus x degrees in driving hail and be warm and dry.

I really like the look of Smoc Smoc robes.not much cheaper than DR, and I’ve never seen one for real, but nice ethical credentials, made in UK and pretty colours! Smoc Smoc

BikeRunSki · 01/09/2021 10:50
@BikeRunSki I wear mine all the time. After outdoor swimming, camping, letting the dog out in the morning. It often lives in the car, then the kids use it as a picnic blanket. I love it....
Yep, all those things
Brilliant bit of kit

Mountain Warehouse

Gorilla robes - the waterproof one. Just as good as a Dry Robe and almost half the price. Love mine!

CMOTDibbler · 02/09/2021 08:16

I have a half zip Smoc Smoc, and while it is super water/windproof, I love the colour, and the inside pocket is perfect for a hot water bottle in the winter it is not as snuggly as a DryRobe or Charlie McLeod (my first robe, and I loved it apart from short sleeves in the winter).
The good thing on a DryRobe is that if you don't like it, the resale value is huge. But on the outdoor swimming pages, people like the Gorilla, Moonwrap, Red and Alpkit ones, though it depends a little on what you want it for

Odisia · 03/09/2021 08:36

I ordered a Gorilla robe yesterday after reading the recommendations on here. I can't justify the price of a Dryrobe but the reviews of the Gorilla look good. Thanks for the recommendation.

Sola do them for about £110 compared to £150 for the dry robes. £80 for children v £110
They are pretty much identical to dryrobes as we have 1 adult and 1 child of each.
We also have a child's moonrobe/moonwrap? Buy it is much thinner and not as well constructed
Though I have the camo dryrobe and I loooovvve it. Honestly the best thing I have ever bought. Yes expensive but as a very very very cold person it has transformed my life. I was always needing to leave before the DC were ready to go from the beach or park through bone coldness. Now I'm fully insulated and they can crack on. I might look like a twat but I don't care.
Obviously brilliant for the roles it's intended for too

@BikeRunSki

Alpkit

I have no experience of the Alpkit one, but it’s a good price. I notice that it says the outer is windproof, nit waterproof though.

My DH tried the Alpkit one but it was very short, and would not have kept him covered while changingBlush

@Notdoingthis

Gorilla Robes
Yep, Gorilla Robes. They seem very similar quality/material/thickness as the Dryrobe, just a poncho design rather than coat design, and cheaper.
Mumsnut · 03/09/2021 12:59

The Dunnes one has to be handwashed Hmm

JohnNutLips · 05/09/2021 17:54

@AlphabetAerobics interesting! How long had you had it for when you sent it back?

spooney21 · 05/09/2021 18:28

My dc swims several times a week and due to Covid have the leave the pool complex before getting dried/ dressed meet parents outside. The dryrobe has been fantastic!

AlphabetAerobics · 06/09/2021 06:56

@JohnNutLips I’d actually had it about 5/6 months but only worn it a few times because we went into lockdown and being in Scotland I “wasn’t allowed” to partake in such covid-risky things such as swimming in a Loch up a ducking mountain. 😉

I got a cheaper version of www.zenbeachuk.co.uk they have universal sizing and their jackets are about half the price of a dry robe! Have just bought one for myself aswell. Both my kids have one, they wear them after swimming and rugby. Hope this helps! :)

Me and my best friend go open water swimming once a week and my friend was wearing a Saltie Robe, so I got one for myself and I can honestly say i'm in love with it. It feels like instant warmth after my swim and they have lots of really cool colours too , I went for the yellow and black one because it was it bit different :)

Calphurnia · 22/06/2022 15:06

Gorilla Robe
It's like a hoody, rather than a full length zip

Chillywilly93 · 30/07/2022 06:56

Another vote for the Dunnes robe, cheap and stylish. I've got 3 (kids and mine!)

Hear good things from friends about how warm the Moonwrap is and esp good for beach days
