Cheaper alternative to a Dry Robe

Anyone know? Are Dry Robes really the best or is there a cheaper one that works as well?

Sorry can't suggest anything but I'm joining your thread as I would also love a dry robe but can't justify the cost!

Sweetsweetsoul · 31/08/2021 21:05

You’re more than welcome to join @freelions! They’re so good aren’t they, but I can’t afford to buy one let alone for the whole family!

The moonwrap was cheaper last year. I got one on frostfire website. Also Dunnes Stores have a version - check it out online.

I have a huge cuddly hoodie from onlinehomeshop which is a bit like an Oodie. Really thick and snuggly. Great for putting on after body boarding etc.

Sweetsweetsoul · 31/08/2021 21:07

@Notaroadrunner is it actually as good though? Some of the alternatives I’ve tried are definitely not and I’d rather not end up buying twice.

Dryrobe is worth absolutely every penny!

AlphabetAerobics · 31/08/2021 21:09

My swim pal uses Charlie McLeod which was a bargain PRE-covid… I’ve got a dryrobe, but would be happy with her Charlie.

ssd · 31/08/2021 21:09

Id like a cheaper version i could afford too @Sweetsweetsoul

Mummydoctor · 31/08/2021 21:10

We have dry robes and I’d highly recommend. I have an adult one from a few years ago when I was into mud runs and obstacle courses. Then we bought some for our boys who are swimmers when the pools reopened but they couldn’t use the changing rooms.
They’re excellent for the beach/after bike rides etc as well.

Mummydoctor · 31/08/2021 21:11

We got the kids ones when they were doing a 33% nhs discount in the first lockdown, but they don’t usually offer that.

I had a Charlie Mc briefly, but was warned by others that they let in heavy rain. This was corroborated by a few people. I got a Dryrobe instead, which I love. I surf it for outdoor swimming and watching football.

If you search “Everyday Athlete” on FB, there is a review of different robes.

@Happyface120

Couldn’t agree more.
PearlyRising · 31/08/2021 21:17

Yes, be quick, Dunnes stores com are doing one really cheaply.

70 euro

The real ones have become too cliche. Less embarrassing to be practical and buy a cheaper one.

Happyface120 · 31/08/2021 21:18

@BikeRunSki I wear mine all the time. After outdoor swimming, camping, letting the dog out in the morning. It often lives in the car, then the kids use it as a picnic blanket. I love it....

ssd · 31/08/2021 21:21

Dunnes out of stock

PearlyRising · 31/08/2021 21:25

Oh I should have checked that.

Alpkit

I have no experience of the Alpkit one, but it’s a good price. I notice that it says the outer is windproof, nit waterproof though.

WithCatLikeTread · 31/08/2021 21:32

I love my DryRobe - bought for me as a present.

Lots of of runners I know have got a ‘free’ one by volunteering for the day a nuclear race, maybe worth looking into?

SalvationArmyCounters · 31/08/2021 21:32

I swim 2 or 3 times a week in rivers and lakes and highly recommend the Passenger ‘dry robe’ which is made from recycled plastic bottles and costs just under £100. I’m 5’7” and have the large, polar fleece lined one - it’s lovely and snuggly, almost ankle length, warms and drys me perfectly after a swim, roomy enough to change under without getting tied up in knots, packs down much smaller than the DryRobe and comes with its own carry bag. It’s perfect!

FreeButtonBee · 31/08/2021 21:36

I have a Voited change robe (the one without the zip). Love it for beach and lido swims. DH even got one too and it’s perfect for wearing in the car back home to do all the annoying wetsuit and bodyboard rinsing. By the time we’ve dressed and sorted the kids we can’t be arsed to get dressed ourselves. You can normally get 10% off your first purchase with them. And they fold up into their zippy pocket so you can use it as a pillow too

Notdoingthis · 31/08/2021 21:42

Gorilla Robes

Pippioddstocking · 31/08/2021 21:50

My dry robe was worth every penny. I even wear it in the winter for freezing cold pouring with rain dog walks- I stay lovely and dry and toasty .

JohnNutLips · 31/08/2021 22:12

I love my dryrobe but the zip is temperamental - difficult with cold fingers. I like the look of the Passenger and Voited ones so that’s what I’d be going for if I didn’t already have one.

AlphabetAerobics · 01/09/2021 07:53

@JohnNutLips I actually sent mine back because the zip got totally stuck - I thought it was just my cold fingers. I’d only worn it a handful of times - to their credit they sent me a replacement, but I did need to pay postage to send the original back to them so they could “investigate”.
