Hello. So I have a kfc interview tomorrow. I am bricking it. Think same interview as last time and got rejected as needing more experience- my last job was in fast food. Worried I will be rejected again. Go nice on me please.

Have you looked at glassdoor etc?

CoffeeRunner · 29/08/2021 22:19

What skills are they looking for? Excellent customer service I would think. Anything else specific to the role you've applied for?

ChequerBoard · 29/08/2021 22:30

If you have fast food experience then surely you have the experience they are looking for?

I would imagine they want to be helpful, hard working, a team player and customer focussed?

What questions did they ask last time? Think them through (or post them here) and plan out your answers using examples where possible to demonstrate you have the experience and skills they are looking for.

Yes this is what I was shocked about because my last role in fast food was very recent and I did not only the crew member role but also a customer care role.

Mention your last managers feedback about you e.g. you were praised for being on time and reliable and a good team member etc. Best of luck op 👍🔥

I'm 28 btw. I don't drive. It's a plan of mine but I've had severe anxiety and quite far behind my peers. Does stay open quite late. I would prefer not to work til late at night as I would have to get a taxi each time which does make me a little uncomfortable but I will do it if I need to. How do I go about saying I can do nights but it would be easier to do days? It's a part time role.

Doesn’t matter if you drive. I worked as a supervisor in KFC. Just say you’re used to a fast paced environment, you worked in fast food previously, you SINCERELY enjoy providing good customer service- You want to move forward in your career and understand progression is possible in KFC, you’re willing to learn and you’ll get the job

ChequerBoard · 29/08/2021 22:41

If you want the job I wouldn't start throwing in barriers like shift preferences at this stage. Be positive and keen.

Time to discuss shift patterns is when you have the job offer secured.

I really need this job as well. I want off of universal credit. How long after securing a job are you okay to discuss shift preferences?

Fingers crossed for you OP, even getting an interview is tough right now so you're already in with a shot!

Take a look at the job description and try to relate the skills/qualities needed to yourself and demonstrate your experience of these.

Also look at the company values and drop these in as they may be key words that earn you a few points.

justasmalltownmum · 29/08/2021 22:45

Don't mention driving/ night shift yet.

BigGooseyLucy · 29/08/2021 22:46

Good luck ! You are more prepared than last time. Fingers crossed for you . Let us know how it goes

What if they ask if I'm fully flexible though

HarkeyQuim · 29/08/2021 23:08

Reply positively with things like you are learning to drive or you have booked your theory test or something along those lines.

I would say something like 'yes I am flexible' or if you feel more comfortable then 'I am flexible but I've always thrived on the busy daytime shift'.

sprinkleyumnut · 29/08/2021 23:11

Ooh thank you that's a really good answer!

Hospitality is so desperate for staff right now you already have the upper hand. Talk about hours later down the line.
Also, if they ask ‘why do you want to work for us’ don’t say why you think they’re a good employer, say that your experience correlates well to their company and what you can bring. (Obviously the answer is ‘because you’re understaffed and I need money to exist’ 😀)
You don’t need to be nervous, you can do this, they just need to know that, so explain it to them.

NowEvenBetter · 29/08/2021 23:19

Write down notes tonight to glance at, they could ask ‘tell us about a time you provided excellent customer service/ dealt with a difficult customer/ worked as part of a team’
Think of real examples-what happened, what did you do, what was the end result?

HarkeyQuim · 29/08/2021 23:22

What you have to remember at job interviews is that they are advertising because they want someone for the job and they are asking those questions in order to give people the opportunity to tell them why they would be able to do the job.

The questions aren't traps. They are so you can sell yourself.

Shoemethemoney · 29/08/2021 23:23

Good luck OP Flowers

Good luck @sprinkleyumnut You've got this! 💪

Kanaloa · 30/08/2021 00:24

I’ve worked in shops/fast food and in my experience they’re not that bothered about your relevant work history, more how you come across. They tend to like people who are friendly/chatty and confident more than those who appear shy.

I’m not sure about saying you would be anxious/reluctant getting a taxi so would rather not work late evenings/nights/very early. I know this sounds harsh but as a manager that would put me off slightly. I think when you start saying stuff like that in a first interview the manager would start thinking hmm maybe I should hire this other person who can work any shift.

sprinkleyumnut · 30/08/2021 12:00

Hi guys thanks so much for your support. It was a quick interview and I did as best as I can. They didn't ask what hours or times I could do though.
