Just that.

I get 20 minutes. Trying to ingest maximum fuel in minimal time. Salads are not good, they take ages to chew for very little energy.

Barkingdog · 29/08/2021 13:17

I get 30 minutes. I run home, let the dog out for a wee, then run back to work. No chance to eat.

Elouera · 29/08/2021 13:18

When I worked in an office, I'd walk 10mins to a park, and sit there to have lunch.

Now WFH, I walk around the garden, pick some tomatoes or beans, phone a friend or just watch TV whilst having lunch.

TooMinty · 29/08/2021 13:20

As I'm wfh I make something nice for lunch, chat with my husband, empty dishwasher, hang out washing etc.

Occasionally I pop into town if I need something urgently.

Sometimes I have too many meetings/too much work so I just grab something quick and eat it at my computer (or my husband makes lunch and brings it to me).

FizzyPink · 29/08/2021 13:21

I’ve got far too used to eating my lunch and then setting an alarm and napping for the remaining 45 minutes. Must try harder to do something more productive.

GinIronic · 29/08/2021 13:22

Like pp, when I was in the office I would walk into town and buy lunch. Now I’m WFH, if the weather is nice, I sit in the garden with a sandwich. If it’s raining, I sit and watch TV and eat.

MrsR87 · 29/08/2021 13:22

I get 30 mins. I spend 10-15 mins dealing with pupils and setting up next lesson. 5 mins walking to the loo and back. Whatever time I have left eating my lunch…always something cold as no time to heat up. That’s if a parent phone call doesn’t come through to me, in which case I often don’t get my and eat my lunch at 4pm 😂😂😂

I miss teaching in France…we had 90 mins and got a four course lunch for about 2 euros!

Lyricallie · 29/08/2021 13:25

When I worked out of the home I would catch up with my friends at the canteen after microwaving leftovers and maybe go for a walk around the car park (we are in the middle of nowhere).

Now WFH I do some chores, cook something, nip to the post office/bank, watch YouTube.

dicdicnurse · 29/08/2021 13:26

I'm a nurse, an actual break is a rarity! Usually cram food in any available 5 minute gaps you can find.

RussianSpy101 · 29/08/2021 13:27

Bowl of cereal, 10 mins on the sunbed!

Groovee · 29/08/2021 13:31

I get 30 minutes. It's the fastest 30 minutes of the day.

passionfruitpizza · 29/08/2021 13:38

It's 20 min so pretty much eat and go back to work.

SpeckledyHen · 29/08/2021 13:42

Hour!? The last paid job I had in a special school it was officially 30 minutes …more like 20 . Loo , check emails ( no phone in work time ) scoff roll , swig of a cold drink and back to work .

ImInStealthMode · 29/08/2021 13:52

I get an hour. I either eat my lunch at my desk and faff around on the internet, go out for lunch with a colleague or friend that works nearby, or go for a swim at my gym and then eat while I'm working.

Unfashionable · 29/08/2021 13:53

I walk.

WhaleyAwesome · 29/08/2021 14:00

Yes, an hour - as per the title of the thread.

Thanks for all those responding with suitable ideas (and what a variety!).

If you spend your lunch hours doing something active / outdoors - do you ever than have issues with people complaining when you are eating at your desk during your working hours?

Fubitch · 29/08/2021 14:05

I walk for the half hour, maybe to a supermarket. Nobody minds me eating at my desk as I have my own office. I did feel a bit cheeky about it at a previous workplace, but not enough to stop doing it. I needed to get away from the office and exercise. Couldn't do that and eat in 30 mins.

SkiingIsHeaven · 29/08/2021 14:08

Walk the dogs

GlinnerForPM · 29/08/2021 14:08

If you get an hour for lunch you should use it to eat. On the other hand, do colleagues who smoke use their full lunch hour plus extra time for smoking?

Bbq1 · 29/08/2021 14:17

45 minutes. Plus a 15 min break on the morning . It's not bad. No local shops. Usually just eat my lunch, chat with colleagues in the staffroom, make a personal phone call or two, scroll on phone. Would like to take a book as although I'm friendly I sometimes want and need to sit quietly with peace at lunch. Would feel antisocial though reading though while everyone else chats. There's woodland over the road and I go through phases of eating my lunch then walking for the remaining 30 mins or so.

UseOfWeapons · 29/08/2021 14:21

Another nurse here. Theoretically, I get half an hour. Realistically, I’m lucky to get 10 minutes at my desk, with phone calls and staff popping in to ask questions. If I had half an hour, I might go for a quick walk, but I already walk to work, and do a lot of walking during the day,

TheFabledSnake · 29/08/2021 14:23

I get half an hour, I eat, smoke a cigarette and then go back. Not much time to do anything else

tiredanddangerous · 29/08/2021 14:27

I get half an hour in theory. In reality I have as long as it takes to eat a sandwich. Definitely no time to go for a walk or pop out anywhere.

ShirazSavedMySanity · 29/08/2021 14:29

I mark books, tidy the classroom, set up for the afternoons lessons, eat whilst I mark, dash to the toilet, try and remember to drink something so I don’t get headaches in the afternoon, then the children are back and it’s lesson time again.

PositiveLife · 29/08/2021 14:30

I've got flexi working but how long I take depends on meetings, general workload, etc. When I take an hour, I sometimes do a 20-30 minute walk followed by a quick lunch (maybe salad, or eggs with veg). If the weather is crap, then I make lunch and watch something on TV.
