I saw Kerry Godliman on TV yesterday. I love her, she's so down to earth.
Rob and Romesh - I like them apart but together they're hilarious.
Make me smile this afternoon by telling me about yours Smile

I've been a big comedy fan ever since I can remember. Rik Mayall was my hero but I actually felt similarly about the death of Sean Lock than I did about Rik. Ie, such huge losses to the comedy world.

I love podcasts though and I love Ed Gamble and James Acaster but, have a massive soft spot for Bob Mortimer, the episode of off menu they had this week was probably the most I'd laughed in a long time. So they'd be on my list.

I also love David Baddiel, and David O'Doherty and watched a comedy special with Jayde Adams the other day which was surprisingly excellent.

poppym12 · 27/08/2021 15:56

Rik mayall, Micky Flanagan, usually laugh a lot at Sarah millican and Kevin bridges. I saw Billy Connolly years ago and laughed until I needed my inhaler. One of the Ross noble gigs was very funny but the next tour quite disappointing. Russell Howard was good live too.

Bouledeneige · 27/08/2021 16:27

Mrsnec I agree entirely about the Off menu podcast with Ed Gamble, James Acaster and Bob Mortimer it was hilarious. I was laughing out loud as I listened walking the Pembroke coast path a few days ago. It was perfect comedy.

Thethreecs · 27/08/2021 16:36

Peter Kay, Lee Evans and Russell Brand. I met Lee Evans in a members club here in Ireland, he had just popped in, I got talking to him and he was SO shy, he was extremely polite and the perfect gentleman. It was the complete opposite to him on stage.

Jon Richardson makes me cry laughing and seems like a nice person too

mrsnec · 27/08/2021 20:23

Exactly @Bouledeneige!
And @Toastie7 I like Jon Richardson too and saw him live last time I was in the UK. I always make seeing live comedy a priority and we had the choice of him and Jimmy Carr or Milton Jones. We'd seen Jimmy Carr too many times and Jon Richardson tickets were cheaper and better venue. First half was brilliant and then I was thinking he hadn't mentioned being vegan and his wife not being able to load the dishwasher properly. Sure enough second half was all old material and the show was over before 10pm and the venue cleared really quickly. It was all very predictable and we wondered if Milton would have been funnier!

I do think live comedy is a different animal though. I saw Newman and Baddiel in the 90s and nothing really compared to that since. Sometimes live acts take me by surprise. I once went to a Jasper Carrott Xmas show. Jimmy Carr, Jethro and Lenny Henry on the bill. I thought I'd hate Jethro but his gags were the only ones I remembered!

I think I like just general slightly surreal sillyness hence my love of Bob Mortimer.

There are so many people around at the moment I want to like but can't.

Katherine Ryan, yes you're rich and you work hard. We get it.

Geoff Norcott and Russell Kane enough with the need for a conversation about men's mental health. You are comedians. Be funny or stick to social commentary.
