!! I knew that a lot of dirt accumulates in these filters (and it's often what causes the stop and start business), but today I tried my usual cleaning method and it wasn't shifting anything, so I took the filter apart.
Suffice to say it's disgusting. Shock

It had been dead a very long time time - maybe a squirrel/ferret? It was sort of mummified.,

Said vent has been cleared out numerous times afterwards.

mineofuselessinformation · 26/08/2021 21:08

@Howshouldibehave, yes, as long as you don't break the thin bits of plastic holding the tabs, it should be fine.

Should be taken a part frequently, after all - who cleans a cleaner!

Omg I didn't know that the middle bit came out Envy

I need to clean my handheld

ShinyHappySummers · 26/08/2021 21:12

What?! What did you pull out from where OP?!?!

On my hols just now but will check when I'm back! Confused

mineofuselessinformation · 26/08/2021 21:20

@ShinyHappySummers, this slot here, plus the other two.

Ah… unless you meant the battery replacement came from Amazon too, @Ulysses.

Ulysses · 26/08/2021 21:27

Yeah, it was a replacement battery @H8H8H8. The old one kept cutting out and made DH swear a lot! I've got the V8 Absolute model.

Battery , Hepa Filter, Prefilter

Ulysses · 26/08/2021 21:29

You can buy 3 packs of the filter kits for the price that I paid for one now Grin

H8H8H8 · 26/08/2021 21:41

Thank you very much, @Ulysses!

Baggingarea · 26/08/2021 21:56

You know you can buy new parts relatively inexpensively. Despite (semi) regular cleaning I just got fed up and started again with some bits.

Naaaaah · 26/08/2021 21:59

Are you wearing a cord jacket?! With bare feet! I'm really bloody nosy intrigued.

igivein · 26/08/2021 22:01

@mineofuselessinformation I think I love you!!!!!!
My Dyson stick vacuum has been sitting in the cupboard for well over two years. It taunted me with its uselessness every time I opened the cupboard door.
10 minutes work and it’s sorted Flowers

mineofuselessinformation · 26/08/2021 22:03

@igivein, I'm glad to be of service! Grin

Search youtube- there are videos to show you how to take it apart and get it back together

BlueThursday · 26/08/2021 22:35

I’m gutted only to have seen this now I’m in bed; I’m dying to go downstairs and fiddle with mine!

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 26/08/2021 22:40

@bluethursday

Ditto. In bed and desp to see what's inside mine too Grin

Stop start issues all the time!

Boatintheocean · 26/08/2021 22:45

Thank you for this! Just done mine!

Tangledtresses · 26/08/2021 22:46

Ooh yes I clip mine off and clean it out as it fills up with the dogs hair... I just twist it off

I definitely need a new battery... mine lasts for 5 minutes now

Buttons294749 · 26/08/2021 23:07

I tried but was unsuccessful at getting the clip bits off :(

I love my Dyson like a third child but it's so high maintenance! My old miele is 8 years old and has just been getting on with the job by itself for years!

mineofuselessinformation · 26/08/2021 23:12

@Boatintheocean, ( I like the reference!) Yes, there is a whole undiscovered world in there.

In bed as well. Thanks for this OP, I've been wondering how to clean the filter, didn't want to risk breaking it. Hurrah. Will do tomorrow.

OneFootintheRave · 26/08/2021 23:57

Will try this

DarnTooting · 27/08/2021 00:30

Just tried with my DC39 but couldn't get the filter to come apart. Shining a torch inside looks clean - am I missing something?
