No McDonald's milkshakes!

Pinkywoo · 26/08/2021 11:29

Apparently due to shortages there are no McDonald's milkshakes in the whole country. I'm 12 weeks pregnant and feel like crap, a chocolate milkshake was one of the few things I could stomach, this is not acceptable!

We got chocolate milkshakes at a McDonald's yesterday. They were out of the spicy chicken burgers though.

Sunlit uplands, etc.

Richard Griffiths, chief executive of the British Poultry Council, blamed worker shortages following Brexit for the issues the industry is currently facing.

"When you don't have people, you have a problem - and this is something we are seeing across the whole supply chain. The labour crisis is a Brexit issue," Mr Griffiths said.

Pinkywoo · 26/08/2021 11:42

Ooh maybe it's worth trying then, I don't want to buy food just a milkshake!

Employers are going to have to pay better wages so that British people can afford to take these jobs. And British people might have to accept that a chicken burger bought for a couple of quid is exploitation of the labour force and the welfare conditions of the meat

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 26/08/2021 11:47

Sorry OP, I realise your post was about the milkshake, not the chicken. Our MacDonalds runs out of milkshake and ice cream every summer, so while some of this is brexit, some of it might be standard under ordering of key summer products

GoodnightGrandma · 26/08/2021 11:50

They’re often not available .
Apparently when it’s hot it’s to do with ice being available.

Pinkywoo · 26/08/2021 11:51

MrsHunt I agree completely, it's just a shame it's taken country wide shortages for people to realise this.

Pinkywoo · 26/08/2021 11:53

Cross post, I don't eat meat (or go to McDonald's at all when not pregnant!), but was just surprised such a massive company is struggling to get supplies.

There's no ice involved in the making of a McDs milkshake
yourstroobly · 26/08/2021 11:57

I was always told whilst pregnant McDs milkshakes and ice creams are a big no no?
Where did I get that information from, surely I wasn't dreaming it ?! And depriving myself of deliciousness for 9 months

Sirzy · 26/08/2021 12:00

Apparently it’s to do with reducing the bulky items in deliveries more so they can get in as much as they can.

The combination of shit conditions, brexit and the pandemic has left the supply chain in tatters with nowhere near enough drivers to meet demand. Some smart arse in parliament has said drivers can drive even more hours but that’s not going to tackle the actual issue.

Thewiseoneincognito · 26/08/2021 12:02

@Pinkywoo think of it as the universe doing you a favour so you don’t pollute your unborn baby with trash food.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/08/2021 12:03

It's the Brexit shit show.🙄 Sorry you can't get your milkshakes @Pinkywoo.Flowers

Hekatestorch · 26/08/2021 12:05

Our McDonald's rarely had milkshakes anyway. 'Machine has broken' is a common excuse.

Our office is near one and people stopped going for that reason.

@Thewiseoneincognito don't be a dick.

Lipsandlashes · 26/08/2021 12:06

I took the DC to McDonalds yesterday and they didn’t have milkshakes but did have ice creams, which I though was really odd as it’s the same mix (I used to work there when I was a teenager).

Sakura7 · 26/08/2021 12:06

It's absolutely due to Brexit.

We still have McDonalds milkshakes in Ireland (and indeed Northern Ireland).

CescaCesca · 26/08/2021 12:06

@yourstroobly i was just coming on to say the same thing! A banana Mcdonald's milkshake was one of my major cravings during both my pregnancys but i was told by midwife to avoid! ☹️ It was a long 9 months!!

Hit a nerve I see ☺️ Guilty conscience from chugging McDs Milkshakes during pregnancy?
Pinkywoo · 26/08/2021 12:11

yourstroobly if it's not on the NHS banned list then it's ok with me!

Thewiseoneincognito I really don't think a milk based beverage every now and then is going to give my baby an extra limb, but thanks for the faux concern.

TooBigForMyBoots thankyou!

The combination of shit conditions, brexit and the pandemic has left the supply chain in tatters

It’s nothing to do with Covid or working conditions and solely down to Brexit.

All other EU states who are impacted by Covid and with less-than-ideal conditions for service industry workers have plenty of supplies.

This is Brexit.

Hekatestorch · 26/08/2021 12:11

@Thewiseoneincognito no because I can't drink milk 🤣 so haven't had one in 13 years.

I said you were being a dick......cause you were being a dick! Shocker

I guess that's hard for you to face.

Kerzehmet · 26/08/2021 12:16

I think the pregnancy thing was due to soft whip ice cream being considered risky due to food poisoning, either due to storage temp or something else I can't quite remember Hmm. But I also think it's one of those things that we all thought 10-15 years ago and now it's considered ok.

Kettletoaster · 26/08/2021 12:20

Just took my DD to McDonalds for a school holiday treat. They had all milkshakes available (she is scoffing one right now)

Maybe they need to pay enough to make it worth it and they'll have plenty of people. They go on like there aren't millions unemployed.
HeronLanyon · 26/08/2021 12:23

Can you replicate with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup of some sort - whizzed up and back in freezer for a short time ??
