I received this with my food delivery
I didn’t order it
It was loose in a bag. Just the one.

No idea what it is but don’t want to waste it!

Thank you

It's a Zephyr Squash

That's a normal courgette. They literally come out of your veggie patch looking just like that. They grow unevenly outside in the sun.

Can I use zephyr and ordinary butternut squash interchangeably?

OP posts:
Peckhampalace · 25/08/2021 08:25

No, different texture to butternut, which is a winter squash (they have hard skins). Use as a courgette.

Marni83 · 25/08/2021 08:35

I just slice my courgettes
Steam
And then dash of soy sauce and wasabi
I’m off
Could I do the same?

It's a squash, delicious, lucky you!

sounds good to me! I like the slices, sprinkled with curry powder. or grated in tomato sauce.

@Marni83

Wait someone says it’s a squash not a courgette Thoughts?
Courgettes are a type of squash.
SquirrelFan · 25/08/2021 09:20

Summer squash. They're very nice and you can use as you would courgette.

SarahAndQuack · 25/08/2021 09:32

It's a hybrid of a squash and a courgette. We grew something very similar by accident one year when we'd had trombocino squash and ordinary courgettes together and they'd hybridised.

If you think they look funny look up crookneck squash - they look like snakes!

Ohshittt · 25/08/2021 09:34

People saying it may be poisonous, why on earth would a company sending a food order just add in a poisonous vegetable? Honestly 😂😂

Because courgettes occasionally are, and you can't always tell until you pick them? If you ever get a bitter courgette from the supermarket, best not to eat it.
helpfulperson · 25/08/2021 09:59

There has been a lot of publicity recently about poisonous courgettes. Mainly home grown but occasionally commercial. Something to do with a recessive gene from how modified they are I think.

hiplip · 25/08/2021 10:06

It looks like it's having an identity crisis 😄

Absolutely

Caspianberg · 25/08/2021 16:05

It’s a courgette. They come in many shades. I prefer the yellow ones to grow as easier to see hidden on plant and you don’t end up with a huge marrow from a green forgotten one

EL8888 · 25/08/2021 16:11

It’s a courgette. We got one in our oddbox this week

Bluntness100 · 25/08/2021 22:09

Courgette is technically a summer squash, however very few people call them that, they refer to them as courgettes.

I roast them chopped with other veg for a roast veg lasagne. Even fussy Ds eats it

EL8888 · 26/08/2021 13:29

@Marni83 not sure yet. Tuesday l made rocket pesto which was the suggested recipe. Last night l made aubergine parmigiana with the aubergine and rocket
