Premier Inn Hypnos mattress

CovidCorvid · 21/08/2021 18:18

Both me and dh hate our fairly new and expensive mattress and need to replace it.

I’ve read about the premier inn Hypnos mattress being quite good. Dh has stayed at a premiere inn and says they’re comfy. I never have but am thinking about booking a night away just to test the mattress.

Are the ones in the premiere inns the same as the ones you can buy on their website? It says something about it being a “domestic version”.

I’m not sure if they still are, but about 8 years ago, DH and I were mattress shopping in John Lewis, and the sales assistant kindly showed us which of their own-brand range was made for them by Hypnos, but significantly cheaper

Worth speaking to them, but I presume it would have to be in person - they aren’t going to declare that info by email or on Twitter..!

Why don't you get one of those mattresses that's different on each side...I'm sure I've seen them somewhere (but I might have dreamt it)

We have the ikea hovag too, in firm (we've had the medium previously, but went for firm this time) the firm is very firm - so much so I've put a mattress topper on it, just to take the edge of as I do like a cloud like feel Grin

PolaDeVeboise · 21/08/2021 20:24

I used to think I loved the Hypnos, but we stayed at a PI recently and the bed wasn't nearly as comfortable as I thought they used to be.... However, we bought an 'Emma' just before Christmas and it was the best decision ever - it's amazing. Wondering if our old one was so crap that Hypnos was also dead comfy in comparison?

CovidCorvid · 21/08/2021 21:12

The Emma type mattresses seem total marmite from threads I’ve seen on here in the past. I’ve certainly seen a thread with a lot of Emma/Simba hate and it put me off.

[quote CovidCorvid]For those who have it and are happy with it is it this one with the wool topper you have?

Yep-I’m pretty sure that’s the one we have. It was worth every penny.

Barwell76 · 21/08/2021 21:23

I find the Premier inn mattresses far too hard. I never sleep well on them.

SimonJT · 21/08/2021 21:24

Have you slept on one OP? I find them very very firm and not particularly comfortable at all, you can feel all the little dips where fluffy ‘buttons’ are.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 21/08/2021 21:26

We have that one. It is brilliant, so comfortable.

Our experience too!!

GrrrlPwr · 21/08/2021 23:51

Op if you get in IKEA mattress you need an ikea bed for it. They are all 200cm long. Whereas standard UK doubles are 180.

I highly recommend IKEA mattress, really good

Elouera · 21/08/2021 23:58

I've slept in 20+ premier inn, hypnos beds throughout the UK (due to work) and always found them comfy. I slept on a hypnos in a different hotel and it was awful! The buttons on the top could be felt through the sheet and dug into my ribs, making it incredibly uncomfortable! I assume there are various grades and styles, but do try before you buy if possible.

Oh I hate button dips so that’s no good.

IKEA is off the table then, I have a lovely lift up storage bed which I’m not changing. It’s just the mattress I need.

Tempur mattress here. Heavenly! But we're both quite short (5"8) and average weight (neither of us is over 12 stone). So perhaps that's a factor? Think if you were heavier you might not want a memory foam as you must end up sinking and never being able to get out!!! 😂

Twilightstarbright · 22/08/2021 07:48

@CovidCorvid I have an IKEA mattress in a standard UK bed size. I ordered it on the website no problem. Think ours in hammarvik and it’s very comfortable.

ChippyDucks150 · 22/08/2021 07:54

I have a Magniflex mattress from Italy and it's still as good as new after 9 years. It's memory foam, but customisable, so the inner has different densities that can be flipped, and the zip off memory foam cover also has a firm and a soft side, so it's easy to make it suit yourselves.
I have the form I nee and the softer outer, which works perfectly for me. I would buy another, even though I think they have gone up in price a fair bit since I purchased mine.

madamegazelle1 · 22/08/2021 21:49

None of our 4 beds are IKEA beds and the IKEA Hovag mattresses are the right size so worth checking sizes. We have small doubles, standard double and a king size

Billandben444 · 22/08/2021 22:01

Ikea mattresses do fit uk beds. We've got one (sorry, can't remember which) and it was under £200 - very comfy and never needs turning.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 22/08/2021 22:08

I also back trying the ikea ones. I can't remember what mine is but it was £230 for the king size med-firm one and I bloody love it.i have back and neck issues and with a memory foam one and a ridiculously expensive silent night one I would regularly wake up with pins and needles. Very rare on the ikea one. I have had it 6 months, rotated once and it is amazing.

CovidCorvid · 22/08/2021 22:23

Thanks, will wait for the IKEA trip to try some then.

Billandben444 · 23/08/2021 06:01

If you do go for an IKEA one, keep your old mattress for a few days as you have to uncover and air the new one. Ours had a strong chemical smell which disappeared completely after standing it on its side for 3 days. They do tell you to do this and they're right!

lborgia · 23/08/2021 07:11

I bought the perfect bed first off 20 years ago. In the last 10 years someone, SOMEONE, has been refusing to spend any money, so we've tried ikea, bed in a box type, memory foam topper. I felt like the princess and the pea, all fucking awful

Hypnos in "plush", ie soft, and it's been a very lovely 3 years.

Can't give you a model because they change the names for each outlet here in Oz.

Do NOT get a topper, just the right kind of mattress, toppers fail much faster.

(Ps ex- John Lewis bed dept person!).

feesh · 23/08/2021 07:28

We have had our Hypnos for 11 years and it’s amazing. We got it from their factory showroom in High Wycombe - I don’t know if it’s still there but it’s worth a try if it is and if you can get there.
