I know it's for lots of convenient things. But that's what I need over the next couple of weeks.
What's nice in there.

It's probably our closest shop yet I haven't been in there years so also fancy going there.

And their £1.69 chilli chicken pizza is a great beer snack

CatrinVennastin · 19/08/2021 15:34

They do big bags of frozen fruit. My DD’s use the mango, blackberries and raspberries for smoothies.

I get frozen steak mince (the less than 5% fat one) and occasionally the kfc bucket type thing for when my nieces are here.

Nearer to Xmas they do an iced fruit cake bar which is absolutely delicious.

In our branch the bread is really good. Tiger bread loaf is our fave.

AmyDudley · 19/08/2021 15:48

I often use them - their online ordering is brilliant - you can always get a slot the next day, they are very prompt, and on the one occasion I had to complain about an item, they sent someone out straight away to replace it and also sent me two giant sized bars of chocolate as a 'sorry'.
I buy
fresh fruit
fresh veg
bread and bakery products
pizzas (their own brand stone fired one is nice)
staples = like pasta/ tortillas/tacos (those kits that you get)
Some biscuits and cake.
Frozen fruit for smoothies etc - they've got a good selection v cheap.
Ice cream tubs/ sorbet/ individual ice creams (they often have more expensive brands on offer - Ben and Jerry's, Carte D'or, magnums etc) and they do their own version of the expensive brands.
Some frozen veg - I don't get loads, but they peas, butternut squash (good for soups - saves the chopping) and they do a pack of edamame beans, nice for salads.
I buy my coffee pods there - they are cheaper than elsewhere, ditto teabags.

I do approx £60- £70 top up shop there half way through the month, - I do my main shop from another supermarket as Iceland haven't got as big a range, but they are great for treats and extras especially.
They also sell lactose free milk for my DD which I can't get in any other shops in my town.

Salt & Vinegar fish fillet strips! Lush.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 19/08/2021 15:58

I love their frozen sacks / large bags of biryani/noodle meals/similar - easy to cook and delicious.

Indian ready meals are the best in any shop imo.

Ice creams.

Goldbar · 19/08/2021 16:00

Fish fillets - salmon, haddock etc.
Stir in prawns - great in stir-fry/home-made egg-fried rice dishes.
Frozen fruit - good in milkshakes/smoothies.
Fish pie mix
Scampi
Frozen peas
Microwave jacket potatoes
Ice cream/ice lollies
Macarons - surprisingly good for the price.

I'll also make up an order with pasta, tinned tomatoes, baked beans, kidney beans etc. to get free delivery.

Littlebelina · 19/08/2021 16:00

Cheap ice lollies! (And keep your fingers crossed for a warm September)

SugarAndSpiceIsNice · 19/08/2021 16:24

Iceland's raw frozen fish fillets and other seafood are of amazing quality. I also like everything in their Luxury range. If you're into slimming world diets, they have a lot of frozen meal options.

LittleMissnotLittleMrs · 19/08/2021 16:26

I came on here to read what were delicacies and essential buys when in Iceland 🇮🇸 - country not shop!

Hemingwaycat · 19/08/2021 16:29

Honestly very rarely go but when we do we usually get the greggs pasties.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 19/08/2021 16:37

This is really nice!

The chicken Tikka in the same range is disgusting so give that a miss!

The 100% fish goujons are so good too. Especially like the southern fried flavour.

Skin on crispy fries are amazing.

I love Iceland but tend not to go often as I go mad and usually on a diet 👎🏻

Iceland, what do you buy there?

Didn't you know that's where Greggs originated Grin
GreenTortoise · 19/08/2021 16:42

Greggs products.

Never buy their fresh meat. It's always rank.

MeredithGreyishblue · 19/08/2021 16:43

Their frozen fish is decent. I've got basa and smoked haddock in the freezer.

And general crap "freezer tapas" - hash browns, fish fingers bits.

Ice creams too. It's opposite an Aldi I use so I occasionally don a full disguise and pop in. (I'm mostly joking!)Grin

ssd · 19/08/2021 17:43

They do a nice iceland luxury pizza, which is thin and oval shaped

thevassal · 19/08/2021 17:47

haha love 'freezer tapas'
agree with previous recommendations of salt and vinegar fish strips, and pakora chicken strips. Also the 'crispy shredded chicken' all the flavours - I have it with rice and loads of sweet chilli sauce, like a takeaway for a fraction of the price and probably (slightly!) less unhealthy for you!
They also do 1.5 litres of pepsi max for £1 rather than 1 litre everywhere else!
And the greggs pasties...especially around festive bake time!

I basically only buy freezer stuff or basics like milk there - not so much choice for fresh stuff, and I also find that a lot of their basics are way more expensive than other supermarkets because they round everything up to a pound - so in asda/lidl you could get basic pasta for 30p or a juice carton for 60p, bottle of vinegar for 19p, etc but nothing seems to be less than a quid in iceland. So if that was the only place you could go it might get quite expensive.

Bbq1 · 19/08/2021 17:50

Love Iceland. It's great for home delivery.

Redglitter · 19/08/2021 17:53

Chicken pakora is lovely but my fave is their Southern Fried chicken pieces

CiaoForNiao · 19/08/2021 17:53

The fish strips PPs have mentioned
DS said all their veggie stuff is good.
Sherbert fountain/sherbert dib dab ice lollies.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 19/08/2021 17:57

Their Salmon Parcels in Cheese and Dill Sauce are really good. Only £2 for two.

Disrespected · 19/08/2021 17:58

Thank you.

Well sorted the freezers. Have less space than thought. So have worked out the next 5 days food to use up all the odds then I'm going prob middle of next week. Need to go get some party bits anyway so gonna get a sitter for the kids and have a proper nose about.

The weight watchers chips are lovely

And i like the Chicken with actual nachos.
Not the nacho sauce one, this actually has nachos in the pack

AledsiPad · 19/08/2021 18:00

I went to Iceland today for the first time in many, many years. I’ve never done a proper shop there. However, my daughter expressed a wish for bubblegum flavour ice cream for her birthday tea and I couldn’t find it anywhere else. So I bought that. And some turkey minion shapes Grin

VelvetVole · 19/08/2021 18:05

Another vote for the Salt and Vinegar Fish strips - go there just to stock up on these!

Tealwarrior · 19/08/2021 18:07

I live 1000’s of miles from the UK but I love buying Iceland goods from the one supermarket chain that sell them here. I get the ice cream and ice lollies as well as some of their frozen veg.

I’m not aware of anyone being snobby about Iceland here - I think people are just happy to get frozen Brussels and parsnips for. Couple of pounder cheese rather than the 10 pounds each for fresh ones.
