Honestly unless you have a family of 10 children snd multiple grandchildren visiting weekly I don't think having 2 ovens is at all necessary especially if you managed with a single oven when the children all lived at home.

I think you'll find you hardly use one of them if you install 2.

2 ovens here - one of them still looks exactly the same as the day it was installed - all nice and shiny. The other one less so.......

The only time I've ever used the second oven is Christmas (for the roast potatoes on a much higher temperature) and DSis 50th birthday party when we had nearly 30 people for dinner.

Travielkapelka · 19/08/2021 07:38

I disagree. 2 ovens is a no brainier. I don’t use my second oven that much but it’s incredibly useful. It’s a microwave and oven combined which is even better. Just have the bog standard insinkerator hot tap. Been fine in hard water area

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/08/2021 07:40

This is really in at the moment! Have you got enough spare ways on your consumer unit to run the extra cooker circuit? Some of these taps are a big load too but I'm not sure about the domestic ones.

Personally I would prob never use 2 ovens, a lot of the houses I've been working on have them for religious reasons, but other than that I think its just a status symbol :p

RJnomore1 · 19/08/2021 07:43

I’ve got a double oven rather than two, great for things like cooking at different temperatures. I’d definitely go for two next time now but I do like cooking and also baking so I’d definitely use them both.

devildeepbluesea · 19/08/2021 07:47

I would definitely get a double oven if I had the chance. I had one years ago, and loved it. Like PP, one half didn't get used much but it's so handy for Christmas, or if you want to grill and bake at the same time etc etc.

Hot taps I know nothing about, but it's something I covet ..

nutellamagnet · 19/08/2021 07:47

I previously had an oven and a microwave combi oven - so you could do your Yorkshire's at a higher temp or microwave some frozen peas at the same time as cooking. Very useful.

New house, new kitchen, and I've gone for a range but it's one massive oven space. Not so good for cooking at different temps, but loads of space for jostling trays in there when you're feeding an army.

AaronStampler · 19/08/2021 07:49

Two ovens is great. There are lots of meals where you want to cook different bits at different temperatures. Plus also the ability to do long slow cooking (for example, pulled pork) while still having an oven available for meals in the meantime. Also handy for proving dough in my brief first lockdown bread-making phase.

onthinice · 19/08/2021 07:51

I have two ovens. The top one is a microwave /grill /oven combined and the bottom one is a pyrolytic oven that cleans itself. It's v useful when cooking things at different temperatures or when you need to grill some items but oven cook others.

cherrypiepie · 19/08/2021 07:51

We have a range cooker with a a gas oven and gas grill and a slim side electric fan oven.

We do use both regularly - the electric is better for cakes and is undoubtedly hotter (and better in general)

Before this I had a double electric oven (so small grill/oven on top and a big regular fan oven) and the range is much better as it has a wok burner and a griddle that we never use.

I don't have a qooker but really want one!

Soontobe60 · 19/08/2021 07:52

Surely we should all have two ovens? One for cooking in, the other for storing all the oven trays / baking tins in?

BumbleMug · 19/08/2021 07:59

Just got a double oven and it’s great. Main oven used most days but then I use both ovens at the weekend when cooking a Sunday dinner etc. Plus DH loves proper oven done cheese on toast so the smaller top oven is ideal with its grill.

If you’ve got room I think a double oven is very useful and we’re not a big family either.

NotMeNoNo · 19/08/2021 08:03

2 different ovens is useful so you have a main oven and separate grill/microwave/ small oven. I can’t see the point of two identical ones unless you regularly cook or cater for large numbers. When we had a range cooker with two similar ovens, they were rarely both in use.

knittingaddict · 19/08/2021 08:14

I would love two ovens, but don't have the space. If you can fit them in without compromising on other important stuff then I would go for it. Who cares if it's only used once a year for the Christmas dinner. It's no ones business but your own.

My brother has 2 ovens, but they have a massive kitchen.

I would love a qooker tap too.

drpet49 · 19/08/2021 08:16

A Qooker tap is false economy. Don’t waste your money on it. More hassle than it is worth.

drpet49 · 19/08/2021 08:16

I would much rather have a double oven

We have this set up as well. I was a bit dubious when we had the kitchen put in as I was veering towards 2 ovens but it's been great. I rarely use the top oven as an oven except when we have loads of people round, but use it as a microwave mostly. It means more workspace space which is important.
knittingaddict · 19/08/2021 08:19

Also as someone else has said, different oven temperatures is another factor. I like cooking and sometimes have to decide on a temperature in the middle to cook two dishes at the same time. The compromise isn't great for either. For instance low temperature for a stew, but high for roasted veg. Two ovens = problem solved.

OverByYer · 19/08/2021 08:22

I’ve got two ovens. Useful if you’re cooking meals that require one item to be grilled and another baked. Mine are side by side under the counter with a large hob over.
I’m dubious about the hot tap, SIL has one at her house and I’ve burnt my hand a few times, it’s quite splattery

ErrolTheDragon · 19/08/2021 08:24

Double oven - the lower one is the combined small oven, grill and microwave. I find that way round much better than the weird way some people have grills and microwaves with potentially superheated liquids high up. The main fan oven can also grill.
I'd prefer 2 of the main oven plus separate microwave tbh but didn't have room without sacrificing cupboard space.

Can't see the point of those hot water taps, I'd rather have a kettle.

We have two ovens, they're one above the other in a tall unit. Means you can cook things at different temperatures, grill and oven at the same time and also useful for Christmas and parties, plus extra space for storage when you're only using one.

Boiling water taps look like very expensive nice to haves, and unless you have a filter, will probably be endlessly descaling and even replacing with hard water.

But I don't have a problem with waiting for the kettle to boil, that many cite as the main advantage because I fill that time with the endless little jobs that always need doing in a kitchen like emptying and filling dishwasher, checking fridge contents, feeding cats, getting things out of freezer etc. If I didn't have the enforced waiting time, a lot of these things wouldn't be kept up with, apart from the cat feeding obviously.

Bumpinthenight · 19/08/2021 08:30

I have two ovens and a Qooker tap.
Love them all! I'd also have them again if I ever move or redesign the kitchen.
My ovens are side by side and shoulder height so I don't have to bend over to put things in and take things out. Programming them via an app is an added bonus which I use surprisingly a lot! (I can preheat them both from the sofa!).

soupey1 · 19/08/2021 08:31

Two full size ovens and also a combi microwave/oven on the counter top. It’s great and I wouldn’t be without, not only for large family gatherings but doing things at different temps.
