Who is booking foreign holidays for 2022?

Like many I haven't been abroad for two years and started idly looking at Brittany Ferries this morning for next year. I was taken aback that some cabin types on the routes I looked at were already sold out. This has made me think I ought to book now or it will sell out completely/prices will go crazy. But I'm worried about restrictions - there are flexible tickets now and I think insurance has got better since this all started and I'd obviously look into that before booking, but I couldn't do hotel quarantines etc. I wonder if people are assuming that won't be a thing by next year? Obviously it's so far ahead and no one actually knows but I just wondered what others are thinking/doing.

I definitely will be planning for 2022 very soon. Normally we wait until Sept/October when more flights are released then go from there! At the moment flights are looking expensive but that's normal. Can't wait, I love the research and planning of holidays Grin

Our last child has just left home, so next year’s holidays will be just DH and me, we are just going to wait and book a late deal when we see how things are.

If we needed to book in peak school holiday times I think we would probably book something in the U.K. again, to be sure of having some sort of holiday.

minipie · 15/08/2021 09:14

Based on flight prices for school holidays next year … looks like everyone has booked already Shock

MissCalamity · 15/08/2021 09:15

Yes, re-booked our holiday that was initially booked back in 2019 and cancelled twice.
As it's not until this time next year I'm hoping that tests etc, will be non existent 🤞🏻

NeedWineNow · 15/08/2021 09:20

Yes, we were due to go to Greece this week but have flipped to next July.

kaleidoscopeheartless · 15/08/2021 09:21

I'm the same twice cancelled holiday booked for next June.

MrsBede · 15/08/2021 09:22

The other worry I have is the dc - they will be 13 and 15 and I wonder if some EU countries will start vaccinating older teens, we won't and then they'll be subject to restrictions. But I suppose there's no way of knowing so I just have to risk it or face another year without going away...

I want to go abroad but am thinking twice about it now - not because of Covid, but because of climate change. That report from the other say has really shaken me up, I feel like we should all be thinking twice about this stuff!

Us, we’re finally off to Sitges next summer and we’re going to have a mini break in Mykonos as well.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/08/2021 09:26

I've got a holiday booked for next year that I was supposed to go on in 2020, then it got moved to this year and then next!

FizzyPink · 15/08/2021 09:27

It’s my 30th next year but I’m just so unsure about booking something. We’d love to do Bali to celebrate but who knows what the situation will be then.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 15/08/2021 09:27

We have a week booked in Disneyland Paris in the Easter and I’m looking at booking an all inclusive somewhere warm for the summer. We haven’t been anywhere (apart from Legoland for a couple of days) since 2019. Our 2020 Easter holiday to Croatia was obviously cancelled and we had a week in Cornwall booked for this Easter and it was the week before UK holidays were allowed so that was also cancelled. We need a holiday!

Thirtyrock39 · 15/08/2021 09:28

Also had to rebook our 2020 Greek holiday again to next year (booked pre pandemic) I was really pissed off we couldn't get our money back actually as I think it's really unfair on those that booked before travel became such a minefield, I'm not convinced it still won't be tricky next year just in-terms of tests and non vaccinated kids etc ...I'd have preferred to wait till the spring to see how things are rather than be tied into this Greek holiday which has started to feel like an albatross around my neck !!

icebearforpresident · 15/08/2021 09:29

we were supposed to be going on a cruise in November but postponed at the start of the year and are now booked for July next year. DH still isn’t convinced we’ll get to go but I’m more optimistic.

I was clicking around the Disneyland Paris website a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised at the prices for Easter next year. We went for Easter 2019 and the prices weren’t significantly higher. Didn’t check out flights though.

lovestopaint · 15/08/2021 09:29

Like an earlier poster- our twice cancelled france holiday has been moved to next year- and we have re booked with Brittany ferry's...but it did all seem to be selling out fast. It's all still guess work though isn't it as to if it will need to be moved again. The villa and ferry booking can be moved fairly easily if it's not doable.

MoonlightWanderer · 15/08/2021 09:30

I have a feeling people are going to go crazy with holidays next year. I’m hoping to go and visit my parents abroad at Easter. It’s been too long!

MinnieMountain · 15/08/2021 10:29

As soon as I can get the leave approved we’re booking Switzerland for next summer.

MinnieMountain · 15/08/2021 10:30

And DH has booked a ski holiday with DS.

newnortherner111 · 15/08/2021 10:34

I have two events abroad I am going to, both in school terms so have only the commitment to the event (one a ticket purchased). Not booked travel or hotels yet.

Definitely

I've got some Eurostar vouchers from 2020 so should start looking to do something with them, seems a nice flight free alternative

idontlikealdi · 15/08/2021 10:45

I booked a couple of months ago because the prices and availability were already climbing and going down.

We are booked for a big resort in the Balearics and it's fully booked now for august.

Returnoftheowl · 15/08/2021 11:11

I've booked for next April to Florida, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that restrictions ease. It's a big holiday that we've been putting off and off, but we decided to bite to bullet.

FuckingFabulous · 15/08/2021 11:11

Booked for Morocco next year

AuntieMarys · 15/08/2021 11:15

Hoping for Greece/Italy next September.

Auntienumber8 · 15/08/2021 11:25

DH and I have always been last minute bookers unless it’s a family wedding overseas. A lot of my family live in the USA. It started when we booked a late deal on teletext for our honeymoon 22 years ago :) the only disaster was one where you were allocated accommodation on arrival in the Canary Islands, it was our last holiday before we married a couple of months later and on the spur of the moment. As we flew in DH said I feel sorry for anyone who stays in that dump, it was under the flightpath close to the airport. Of course it was ours, dodgy electrics and disco but many fun memories. The hotel handyman was also the DJ.
