It's my birthday soon, and I need to give the younger family members gift ideas. I have no clue at all what to suggest. I don't want alcohol.

A new evening brew cup. Bigger than a normal mug, but not Sports Direct sized.

A handwitten voucher/note in card & the cash to spend in the local yarn shop.

A couple of travel sized shampoo bars to try from Etsy - some have free delivery & are less than £2.

@Camomila if you're near a Wilko's, ours has some nice metal water bottles on sale for £2.50 each at the moment. We have several of them between us & have no complaints :)

I think I'd add a nice notebook to my list too. Preferably spiral bound but I'm not fussy & Wilko's always have a nice selection; I wouldn't spend the £4 on one for myself but would be made up with one as a gift.

I've added a pad for the kitchen. I'm enjoying reading everyone's suggestions! I git nice mugs when I became single, and sticked up on candles at Christmas, decent ones so they last.

Amazon voucher
Nice socks
Notebook
Decent torch
Food
Hot chocolate
Things for gardening
Tickets for a film or similar
A CD (I’ve still got a CD player in my car)

Hen2018 · 15/08/2021 10:18

Soap making kit (Hobbycraft)
A glossy magazine connected with a hobby they do
A penknife (though tricky for £10)

Hen2018 · 15/08/2021 10:22

LOL at “tokenism”. £10 i what we usually spend on family members for birthdays and at Christmas. What great wonders are you expecting to open?!

JingsMahBucket · 15/08/2021 10:43

@NeverTalkToStrangers

Knoops hot chocolate flakes.
@NeverTalkToStrangers thanks for mentioning these. I think I may buy some for my husband. How many servings do you get out of a box? It doesn’t say on the site.
NeverTalkToStrangers · 15/08/2021 11:00

In theory you’re meant to do something ridiculous like 8 heaped spoons per mug, but I do 3 which is still delicious and get maybe 8-10 servings?

50ShadesOfCatholic · 15/08/2021 11:03

Honestly I am beyond gifts. I have everything and more, and I'd want them to save their money or come out with me for a coffee together or to donate to refugee causes.

thegcatsmother · 15/08/2021 11:22

Voucher for a cross stitch site to download patterns or buy stash.

TheTeenageYears · 15/08/2021 11:57

Have a list to hand of all the things you use and like which are under £10 and circulate/update regularly for this very occasion. Be very specific about brands if you have a strong preference. I really dislike wasting money myself or for others to buy things i'm not going to use. We have avoided getting into the kids buying us presents to a degree for this reason but now they are older I would rather they spent £2 or 3 on something I'm going to use than £10 on something i'm not. If there's a list of items rather than just being told one or two things then they will also feel like they have an element of choice in what they buy.

@NeverTalkToStrangers okay I was wondering about that! Eight teaspoons seemed like a lot but I wasn’t sure. I’m also thinking about the sugar content as well. Thank you for answering!
