Any other dyspraxics do this?

Brush one side of your hair twice, and the other side not at all

or find you are attempting to put both socks on the same foot

or realise you have gone out with a watch around each wrist,

or carry two cups of tea, place on on the table, and then let go of the wrong one

or anything similar???

Please tell me I am not alone!

DS does the drifting on the pavement thing too. Not so much when he's walking briskly to get somewhere but if we are just ambling through town talking and looking at shops it happens a lot.

@ExtremelyDisorganised

Could I ask how those of you that drive got on with learning? Dyspraxic DS is 17 now so it's on the list of things to think about but I think coordinating the gears, pedals, indicators etc will be hard. He has a good sense of direction and good awareness of what other cars are doing but its making us both nervous.
I only got as far as a few disastrous lessons, couldn't even get to grips with the steering. If I had lessons again, I'd go for learning in an automatic car because coordinating the gears, pedals etc was an issue for me too. It sounds like your son might ultimately be better with an automatic but that's something to figure out along the way.

Does anyone struggle to walk in a straight line? If I don't concentrate, I'll end up squishing people walking with me against walls - used to happen on the way home from school with my mates!

Yep! People probably think I'm drunk.

Oh yes I do the drifting walking thing. I suddenly look and I've pushed someone into the tiniest part of the pavement

I still need to think left & rights. Funnily enough I think that's got a bit better since I stated to drive

It took me 5 driving instructors and several years of lessons think I worked out I did like 500 hours of lessons. But got their eventually

Apparently i do slur my speech especially when I was younger. I get words mixed up a lot

I have no sense of direction. In a new building I don't know which way to go when I leave a room. My strategy is that when I go into a room I say 'when I leave this room I turn right.' I have to verbalise it or I can't do it. Same with finding the seat in the restaurant - I have to give myself a verbal queue.

SunSeaSurfGin · 14/08/2021 13:25

My sense of direction is horrendous

I find it really hard if someone describes what they are planning to wear for instance to visualise it. Or if someone is describing what home improvements they're planning.

Or if someone shows me a 2d architects drawing. I just really struggle visualising it. I was involved in a one off project at work involving floor plans. I just couldn't visualise it at all.

Or the property threads on mn and posters go on about the floor plans I'm like I have no idea. If that plan means it's a tiny house or a mansion

I caught myself about to put normal rubbish in the laundry bin yesterday!

I was driving with my ex once yo his sisters where I had been a million times and he got really annoyed with me checking the directions. He growled left at me, I said left left left and turned right Smile there was no convincing him it was accidental (which it was)
