Not easy to choose with a considerable body of work but I shall go for:

Golden Years

Sound and Vision

I watched labyrinth in the hot tub with my dd8 last weekend, she loved it.

He was so talented.

Impossible to choose! I think there is a perfect Bowie song for every mood and every occassion.

Today it would be

Changes

TVC-15
The Stars are Out Tonight
and Absolute Beginners - it's a cracking love song and when I hear it I am 16 again

Northernexile · 12/08/2021 22:16

This is flipping impossible! But..
Sound and Vision
Sorrow
Rebel Rebel (maybe my top song, makes me feel 15 again)
Absolute Beginners
Under Pressure
Man Who Sold the World
Queen Bitch
Life on Mars

Fun fact: My mum's best mate at school was Vanessa Walker, who left school and went to London to be a model. She is also the model in the Absolute Beginners video with Bowie! Only found that out this week, was well impressed!

So true Twig - there is always an appropriate Bowie song.

Also for me, Absolute Beginners takes me back to the excitement of teen years, being 16.

Love Starman too - that performance on Totp with Mick Robson is mesmerising.

And love love love Life on Mars.

Mick Ronson, obvs!

evtheria · 12/08/2021 22:22

Golden Years
Space Oddity
Bring Me the Disco King

WildRosie · 12/08/2021 22:24

A few years ago, I watched DB perform Life On Mars on Parkinson, with just Mike Garson providing piano accompaniment. It was quite captivating , especially MG's dramatic playing at the close of the song.

Such a great thread to read through!

Too many to choose from!

Today was a 'Lady Grinning Soul', 'Aladdin Sane', 'Letter to Hermione' and 'All the You g Dudes' day.

Kept me grounded as I was trying to resolve a really stressful issue.

Yesterday, I listened to the piano section on 'Lust for Life', which is just brilliant.

So, so glad I live in a world with David Bowie music.

By the way, a while back I went for a visit to David Bowie's old homes, including the teeny house in Bromley.

And I hopped on a bus and visited Siouxsie Sioux' old school, too.

It was a lovely day trip. I'd highly recommend.

A New Career in a New Town

Even though it’s instrumental it’s incredibly moving and makes me realise how much I miss his presence.

IsadoraQuagmire · 12/08/2021 22:53

Absolute beginners:

I've nothing much to offer
There's nothing much to take
I'm an absolute beginner
And I'm absolutely sane
As long as we're together
The rest can go to hell
I absolutely love you
But we're absolute beginners
With eyes completely open
But nervous all the same

Nothing much could happen
Nothing we can't shake
Oh we're absolute beginners
With nothing much at stake
As long as you're still smiling
There's nothing more I need
I absolutely love you
But we're absolute beginners

My teenage anthem "I absolutely love you"

Candyapple49 · 12/08/2021 23:01

Absolute Beginners 💕
Those words ring so true for first love .

Breaking Glass

Suffragette City
Lady Grinning Soul
Width of a Circle

There are just so many fabulous songs!

Saidtoomuch · 12/08/2021 23:08

As the World Falls Down,
Golden Years,
Life on Mars,
Under Pressure
With Bowie, it wasn't what he sang so much as how he sang it. He wasn't the best singer in the world, but no one has matched him for emotion. That's where his true talent lay.

shangelawasrobbed · 12/08/2021 23:09

Rock and Roll Suicide

The ending with the "you're not alone" and the "cos you're wonderful" is like a hug coming through the speakers. I fucking love that song.
