Not easy to choose with a considerable body of work but I shall go for:

Golden Years

Sound and Vision

Germolenequeen · 12/08/2021 21:26

@WobblyLondoner

Thanks for that link - wow really nailed it 😲

My favourites are
A Space Oddity 2nd version - takes me straight back to start of Secondary school 🙈
Life on Mars
Ashes to Ashes

And many others - David always seemed a very likeable chap 💓

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/08/2021 21:29

Star man because it just reminds me if being 17 and totally care free. A fabulous time.
The man who sold the world, I love the intro particularly.

InflagranteDelicto · 12/08/2021 21:33

There's a statue in the town where I live, it plays music on the hour.

Germolenequeen · 12/08/2021 21:36

Oh yes Starman 💗

WildRosie · 12/08/2021 21:39

I also like Starman. I haven't yet made up my mind about The Laughing Gnome - I used to work with one so that song is never far from my mind!

Really tough. But:

Sound and Vision

Rock and Roll With Me

WobblyLondoner · 12/08/2021 21:46

@Germolenequeen didn't he just. JP cones out of it looking a bit foolish doesn't he.

Nandakanda · 12/08/2021 21:46

The thing with DB songs is they can come back into your consciousness decades after first hearing them, and you suddenly realise how brilliant they were.

Running Gun Blues and Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family did this to me recently.

John! I’m Only Dancing has been brilliant since I was 13.

CheerfulBunny · 12/08/2021 21:47

All of Hunky Dory but in particular Life on Mars. It takes me back to being a student and my BF then who introduced me to Bowie and the Smiths and The Kinks and The Stones... I already liked his Serious Moonlight soul/funk stuff but the back catalogue blew me away. His death really affected me, I heard at work and had to duck my head down behind my screen for a bit. Went home that night, listened to this album and just cried. I didn't always like his work but I admired it looked forward to seeing he was doing next. It seemed wrong there would be nothing more. He was a beautiful man too.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 12/08/2021 21:49

Oh, that's so hard.

There are do many to choose from, but I think Absolute Beginners is my "go to" Bowie song. I recognise that others are technically better, but this song reminds me of a certain time in my teens and has a special place in my heart

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/08/2021 21:49

Ch-ch-changes.

Life on Mars.

Puppylucky · 12/08/2021 22:07

Oh so hard! As a PP has already said there are so many songs and so many reasons to love - it's not always about the song but about the memories it evokes.
Mine would be (at least today)

  • Boys keep swinging
  • Sweet thing
  • I cant read
  • John I'm only Dancing
  • Quicksand
  • Suffragette City
And so many more!
