Comfort box for pregnant colleague - any ideas?

A colleague at work is pregnant and I’d like to put together a hamper/box for her for when at work. We are not in an office environment and it can be tiring. I will put snacks and a nice water bottle in. Any other ideas?

I would ask her first as she might find it a bit condescending. She’s not ill.

Can she not bring her own things in?

YoBeaches · 06/08/2021 22:06

What a nice thought.

Ginger biscuits and crackers for morning sickness. A mum And baby magazine for a flick through at breaks? Some flap jacks or oat bars to keep her going.

Please don’t tell me this is a thing now!

Ginger and lemon teabags - great for morning sickness

squirrelnutkins1 · 06/08/2021 22:09

Very kind thought 😊

However well intentioned I would have hated this. I don't need extra stuff because I'm pregnant. If I need anything for work, I'm capable of buying it myself.

I'd have appreciated you covering my lesson for 5 mins while I puked.

I would have a joint hamper for both of you filled with treats.

doingadisservice · 06/08/2021 22:13

Ginger tea
Biscuits
Gaviscon
Hand cream

loosingmymarbles · 06/08/2021 22:14

Little face / foot mask

Flyinggeese1 · 06/08/2021 22:17

Noooo! Unless she’s asked for some stuff.

Squashpocket · 06/08/2021 22:17

No, don't do this, she's not a child.

StarryStarrySocks · 06/08/2021 22:18

Please don't do this! She's pregnant, she hasn't suddenly lost the ability to think, plan or buy things for herself.

MotionActivatedDog · 06/08/2021 22:21

Yeah- what they^ all said. I’m sure she can buy herself snacks and her own water bottle if she doesn’t already have one.

Bizjustgotreal · 06/08/2021 22:21

I think the people that say 'no, how condescending' need to wind their necks in. This is a wonderful idea and I would have loved something like that when I was expecting. It shows you care and acknowledge how tiring and yucky being pregnant can be! You're a real sweetie!

jerometheturnipking · 06/08/2021 22:24

Christ no. She'll know what she needs and will have it with her.

MotionActivatedDog · 06/08/2021 22:28

The thing I don’t get @Bizjustgotreal is that loads of people have situations that would make a working day tiring. Would you make hampers with snacks and water for all those people?

Kittykat93 · 06/08/2021 22:30

Never heard of a comfort box, I guess it is a nice thought but I'd be a bit embarrassed if a colleague gave me one.

It's not about loads of people. It's about a colleague that, I'm guessing, OP gets on quite well with. And yes, if I felt there was something I could do to make a colleague's day better, I'd within reason do it.

Can't go around not doing stuff for the fear that giving them a box of biscuits will offend them.

Biscoffin · 06/08/2021 22:34

I think this is really thoughtful. Some places do bump sheet masks, which might be lovely to include?

Delicatesubjectsadly · 06/08/2021 22:34

Ew please don’t

heywhatswrongwitu · 06/08/2021 22:54

This is a lovely idea. Snacks!!!

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 07/08/2021 08:33

Thanks for ideas. I’ve known her many years and she’s a great friend who I know will like it. It’s not a ‘thing’ anymore than just wanting to make something that is a bit of a challenge a little bit easier for someone I appreciate. She has done similar for me but not during pregnancy hence me looking for ideas. Also not treating her as a child or incapable. A box of nice things showing my support.

If we worked together then I would know that it is something you probably wouldn’t like but I do know she would.

And I’d definitely cover for those moments too!

I’d say that there us a very real danger of inadvertently getting scents/tastes/textures etc that she’d have difficulty tolerating.

I know traditionally ginger helps pregnancy sickness….. for me it aggravated it. I wouldn’t bear any scented toiletries and had a real aversion to sweet foods!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 07/08/2021 08:47

How far along is she? I’d say ginger biscuits, a little insulated cup (good for when baby arrives if nothing else), some sort of pregnancy book/mag, and then random treats - maybe a foot massage type thing, or a selection of hot drinks.
