I have a completely baby & partner free 24 hours all to myself! Torn between how to spend it.

How would you spend 24 hours all to yourself?

Lie in. Leisurely breakfast. Shopping trip. Lunch out. Buy nice snack things for dinner. Long bath, wine, snacks, a film then an early night spread out alone in my big bed.

MonkeyPuddle · 02/08/2021 21:08

Oooh the dream! It depends on what you like I suppose.

I have a full day child free this week and I am planning on getting my hair cut (it’s in dire need!) in the morning, going for a lazy coffee and reading my new book whilst eating various baked goods and then going to my favourite park and watching the cygnets.

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/08/2021 21:11

Breakfast in bed with Today programme and cats. Gardening. Lunch in the sunshine, more gardening. Cup of tea and piece of cake around 4 , more gardening. Long soak in bath, takeaway delivered and film of my choice watched in bed with a glass of wine and cats.

Whatever you do, hope you enjoy it.

overthethamesfromyou · 02/08/2021 21:12

Can you get away? Even a night in a local city, going to galleries, shopping, whatever you fancy?

DGFB · 02/08/2021 21:14

When I have alone time I either spend it with friends I haven’t seen for a while or I wander into town, have a lovely lunch, buy some magazines and books and come home to read them. Few glasses of wine and a trashy box set

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/08/2021 21:14

Go out for coffee and pastries, followed by a mooch around the shop including at least an hour in the bookshop.

Lunch out, reading one of my new books.

Buy deli pickles for tea. Long bath/paint nails/face mask etc. Lazy evening with picky tea and a packet of fridge cold Maltesers.

I often get child free days when DD is with her dad.

I throw the washing on and do the washing up so I've done something then unless I need to do a big clean I do the things I like.

I like to make a flask and go for a walk along the beach for two hours. Head to M&S and get some nice food for dinner, stuff Dd wouldn't like and a bottle of alcohol as I never drink when home alone with DD. I like to get a bar of chocolate, the sort you slide your finger under the foil (not wrapped in plastic) it always feels more luxurious and read for a bit. Might make plans with friends to go the cinema or go on my own if there's something on I really want to see or even the theatre. If not I watch a couple of more grown up things on TV, Dd is getting older and stays up later so I'm stuck watching 12s most of the time.

Depends if you like to go out or would prefer to stay in...

I’d buy some frozen ready-to-bake croissants for breakfast.

Long lie-in and wake up at leisure.

Breakfast - croissant(s) and coffee.

Then I’d chill for a bit, just relaxing.

Walk to town when I feel like it, have lunch at a nice cafe or have a late lunch at a pizzeria (with a glass of wine). Mooch around town a little, especially if there is a bookshop.

Back home for a nap. Then an afternoon or early evening bath.

Dinner would be a half crispy duck with pancakes all to myself. Plus a drink or three.

Into bed for a cosy night. Maybe a film.

Bliss.

Standrewsschool · 02/08/2021 21:18

Probably spend the morning catching up on stuff, and the afternoon/evening indulging in watching a film, , reading etc. Cooking myself an easy meal but one that other family members don’t like. Opening a nice bottle of bubbly.

Strokethefurrywall · 02/08/2021 21:29

Up early to work out
Beach walk for some rays, swim and read
Lunch and wine
Massage
Meet friends for drinks/dinner
Home for dinner or pick up food to go
Movie
Music etc.
Or I go out with friends until the small hours and go out for breakfast the next morning.

AtlasPine · 02/08/2021 21:34

A long walk, long soak in the bath and a takeaway. Big cooked breakfast the next day, gardening, and finally watch a bunch of films or a whole box set with a bar of dark chocolate and some red wine.

Iampicklerick · 02/08/2021 21:34

I’d go out to the gym followed by a breakfast in London, maybe a spa morning with afternoon tea, then shopping for clothes for just me, crochet all afternoon and finally go to the cinema.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 02/08/2021 21:35

Get up usual time ( around 7) as lie-ins make me feel urgh.
Lounge watching morning telly and check out mumsnet with a fresh fruit salad.
Walk into town, browse the bookshop, choose a new book and call in the bakery on the way home for a freshly made sandwich and a chunk of chocolate cake.
Catch up with family over the phone on returning home.
Do a mindfulness exercise on the Calm App whilst wearing a pampering face mask.
Shower and new PJs.
Order a pizza and relax on the sofa with a film ( horror or thriller).
Up to bed to start my new book.

EezyOozy · 02/08/2021 21:41

Lie in, go out for breakfast, go out for some beauty treatments then lunch and shopping/mooching around the city centre. Then maybe a film and dinner / wine with a friend. I have a two and a three year old and I can't see myself doing most of these things any time soon!!

Fleetw00d · 02/08/2021 21:59

Ohhh my ideal day would be as follows:
Wake up with no alarm
Coffee in bed while watching tiktok or love Island
Breakfast of pancakes or French toast
(I like to think i would do a workout here but most likely not)
Go shopping and out for lunch
Book in for some serious massage/facial/pedicure appointments
Long bath while reading a book
Homemade mac and cheese for dinner
Have a really yummy dessert
Get into bed with snacks and watch a film

PollyDarton1 · 02/08/2021 21:59

This has made me realise I've not had 24hrs completely alone in about ten years!

I'd have a lie in, get ready with a podcast that I wouldn't get interrupted during, go swimming and then for some lunch in a lovely cafe locally. In an ideal world I would spontaneously appear at Heffers in Cambridge and spend hours looking through the books with £1000 spare to spend. I would sit in a park with a mocha and read until I was hungry and then spontaneously appear at home and order the local Chinese, with a virgin mojito pitcher to drink all evening either reading, watching a film and crocheting or listening to music.

As someone who is constantly surrounded by people (DH, DS, DSS, family etc) the idea of 24 hours completely alone is both amazing and completely bewildering as I genuinely think the last time was probably 2009 when I was living by myself in a flat and wasn't working full time Grin

Newchallenge · 02/08/2021 22:18

Sleeping, reading and eating.

NotRainingToday · 02/08/2021 23:22

@PollyDarton1
I would probably be in Heffers Cambridge too, so I might spoil your moment as the woman who talks to randoms!
(Alternatively we could get a coffee and make a new friend!)

Blamelesscars · 02/08/2021 23:23

Sleeping in, reading, embroidery, watching my favourite films or tv shows and eating whatever I want for dinner

Greenbuttonsbluebuttons · 02/08/2021 23:27

Oh god 24 hours alone would be living the dream. I would (try to) lay in, have a look around some shops, eat really lovely food, then have a little tidy around so I could fully relax for an evening in front of a tv series. Boring, but my ideal day since having children.

OatyBarKid · 02/08/2021 23:31

Ohhh this is my dream!

I would probably wake up at the crack of dawn even without kids, but get a tea and read a book/snooze until a reasonable hour.

Spend the day doing Jack shit. Lounge on the sofa and watch crap, chill in the garden with a book, maybe do some watercolour painting. Get take away for tea then wine in the bath and an early night. Bliss!

Laufeythejust · 02/08/2021 23:35

I’d have a lie in then go to the gym for a good workout, then a swim and spend ages in the jacuzzi. I’d get some sushi for lunch then go to the shops and get myself some new comfies and a video game. I’d go home, make the living room into a cave and play my game with a gallon of Pepsi max and a takeaway.

SuperSharpShooter · 02/08/2021 23:37

I've just done it. Cat sitting for a friend without my kids/OH kids.
I ordered a maccies b'fast. A Pieminster lunch and curry for tea, all delivered. Binge watched my Unorthodox Life and Sexy Beasts. Have hardly moved of the couch.
I would do NONE of these things ordinarily.
It's been bloody lovely 🥰

Thursa · 03/08/2021 00:40

Clean the house and know it would still be clean and tidy for a whole day. Eat what I want when I want. Soak in the bath. Binge watch something with a couple of glasses of wine and some chocolates.

Whitedeer · 03/08/2021 04:40

Only time I'm alone for 24 hours would be pre-covid. DP usually goes away for a couple of holidays each year, but can't under prevailing conditions so I'm not alone for that long.
My day would be SO different from yours.
I get up when it's light. Dogs accompany me, everywhere so I'm not really alone. I let the cat out. First job is to let the chooks out and feed and water them, then check for eggs. Chat to the rooster, pat Mitzi who has a good funny leg post eagle attack, but is a very sweet bird.
Go to the feed shed and mix Charlie's feed. He's a very old, ex-working, now retired Clydesdale. He has very few teeth and eats a senior horse feed soaked to a porridge. Pile feed buckets into wheelbarrow and trundle through the home paddock. Greet the Arabs and the Tb. Inform the donkeys for the millionth time that the food is NOT for them. This looks ridiculous, but it works, you stamp your foot and snort loudly to tell them NO in donkey.
Greet and feed Charlie in Creek Paddock. Tell him he's beautiful. He, unlike Ricky and Mary (the donks) understands English.
Wander down the back and check on cows. Leave dogs "down" outside fence. Calving cows hate dogs, even dogs that they normally know and tolerate. Have to check the vulvas of cows that are due to calve to estimate calf arrival times. That's hysterical. A polite cow faces you, a rude cow stands side on. Mine are polite; so we get this ridiculous circle dance going.
Leave giddy cows and collect dogs.
Walk back. Check on bulls in Bull Paddock at front of property.
Dump wheelbarrow in wood shed and fill with firewood. Go inside. Clean cat litter tray (he's inside at night). Feed dogs then self.
Evening repeat. Also feed Arabs, Tb and donkeys. Do not feed dogs or chooks. Do feed bulls.
Rest of time depends on what needs attention. Use tractor to take hay to cattle and horses if needed (every two/three days). Check fences every day, and especially electric fencing. Trees seem to aim for a fence when they fall, and it's definitely deliberate. Veggie beds may need work. May need to split firewood. May need to take rugs off horses or put them back according to day.
It's fun.
