Naice supermarket food ideas

DH and I have agreed that because we aren’t going on holiday this year, we will treat ourselves to a few things here and there. One thing I said I wanted to do is to do a big supermarket shop where we buy WHATEVER we want, a bit like at Christmas but a summer version (and with no in laws to cater for 😆). I’m aware that this probably sounds mega sad but it will be a proper treat for us as we normally stick to a strict budget each week and try to be really frugal with groceries.

We shop at asda and have a delivery due tomorrow so we’ve said we’ll do it this week but now I have no idea what to order?! I am gluten free and don’t eat much dairy currently due to BFing a baby with cmpa (normally I would be going mad on naice cheeses). Can anyone help me with ideas? So far I’ve got

Serrano ham
Really expensive vegan ice cream
The extra special range of summer berries
Organic eggs
Asparagus
Posh GF bread
Fresh prawns

I should probably make an effort to cobble together some actual meals from this shop 😂 but all ideas welcome. What would you buy?

Also I’m very aware that this is a lovely treat to have (before anyone accuses me of having more money than sense, certainly not the case but just our way of having a treat this week, this is not a usual weekly shop!)

If you're not going to eat out, some Cook! frozen meals. They do click and collect.

BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 01/08/2021 19:55

If they have Charlie Bingham meals in Asda then but some (the curries are ace) If not then go to Sainsbury’s and get some! Otherwise I’d get a create your own pizza and not sure what else as I don’t shop in Asda.

I'd go to your local farm shop or market for fresh, local veg instead of asda!

Blueberryblueberry · 01/08/2021 19:58

Might be a bit late notice but would recommend doing something like mindful chef for a week. Really delicious meals which feel like a treat (but healthy) quick to cook but for us too expensive (and maybe to much packaging etc) for all the time. There E various other companies which are similar bit this is one we've tried. You can pick meals so manage dietary requirements. For your asda shop by some posh crisps, and maybe posh party food and maybe a whole ham for the Christmas food feeling Grin

SausagePourHomme · 01/08/2021 19:58

Lots of nice drinks, juices posh coffee, milkshakes

Blueberryblueberry · 01/08/2021 19:59

Enjoy your treat!

isitjustlockdown · 01/08/2021 19:59

I would probably splurge on great meat/veg/fruit from the best local sources rather than buy the "better" Asda (or any supermarket) range.

It will be a lot more of a treat.

I like Waitrose chimichurri steaks from the BBQ section or the bavette steaks. And their venison steaks and burgers.

They also do a delicious seeded sourdough for about £3 a loaf! (Not Gails - Waitrose own brand.)

Fresh tuna steaks. Fresh hake. Mild oak smoked salmon. (All waitrose)

Black cherries, blueberries and raspberries with Fage greek yoghurt.

Nohomemadecandles · 01/08/2021 20:01

I like their ranch coleslaw kit

Thesearmsofmine · 01/08/2021 20:02

I would swap to a different shop. I do my main shop at Asda but they don’t really do much naice stuff.

CHIShandler · 01/08/2021 20:04

If you have time and transport and it's fairly close by, I'd forget the Asda order and go to a Marks and Spencer food hall.

fassnk · 01/08/2021 20:05

i think i would just upgrade all my normal stuff - fancy crisps, dips that arent 2 for £2, twinings tea, taylors coffee etc. have a lovely week with all the treats!

Crabsy · 01/08/2021 20:05

Thanks for ideas. Good point about asda, we just have a recurring delivery slot there because we are usually on a budget. Maybe I could buy the basics and some of the branded things from there and then get the rest at M&S? We have one nearby. Don’t live near any farm shops unfortunately and the baby is still horrendous in the car seat so don’t want to venture far (this is meant to be a treat after all!) but I could definitely manage to get to Marks.

@fassnk I am definitely going to look beyond the special offers which is what I’m normally dictated by!

It's cherry season. I would happily consume kilos of the things. And white peaches.

If you don't have any, buy some balsamic vinegar to perk up tomatoes and strawberries.

A posh breakfast can make the day.

Chewbecca · 01/08/2021 20:09

Balsamic pearls for sprinkling on your salad

Scallops, fry them quickly and make a pea purée to sit them on.

HappyThursdays · 01/08/2021 20:10

Robinsons do these posh cordials and there's one called crushed lime and mint and it always feels like a proper treat when I get it

M and s have some lovely 3 for £7 deal on little picnic foods like empanadas, olives, sun dried tomatoes. Their red velvet cake is delicious and they have a fantastic plant food section! I also think their curries are really good if you fancy a ping ping!

Madcats · 01/08/2021 20:12

Why don't you sign up for a trial of Gousto/Hello Fresh etc.

DH is leaving me with Covid (but well) teen (his 10 days will be up) this week so I let DD choose some meal Kit's from Morrison's Fresh that she's going to learn to cook.

It's easy enough to cancel after the first order (someone on MN is bound to have a referral code).

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 01/08/2021 20:13

Some posters are being a bit weird about the asda/farm shop thing.

I think your idea of getting the basics delivered then popping to m and s for treat food is fab.

If you like brown sauce their own brand is delicious and makes any eggs taste amazing!! Only a quid too.

user1477249785 · 01/08/2021 20:14

I'd buy some really decent crisps, olives, belazu balsamic vinegar, smoked salmon, guacamole, chocolates... enjoy!

user1477249785 · 01/08/2021 20:15

Also m&s do a really brilliant bottle of Prosecco for only eight quid.

KidneyBeans · 01/08/2021 20:15

Baked Camembert
Crusty bread (GF sourdough)
Sabra hummous
GF mozzarella sticks
Naive Olives

Sleepyquest · 01/08/2021 20:17

Oh yeah I second that Gousto are really good!
Also love a Charlie Bighams curry.

HappyThursdays · 01/08/2021 20:24

Yes I would second that m and s Prosecco - it's divine
