Naice supermarket food ideas

DH and I have agreed that because we aren’t going on holiday this year, we will treat ourselves to a few things here and there. One thing I said I wanted to do is to do a big supermarket shop where we buy WHATEVER we want, a bit like at Christmas but a summer version (and with no in laws to cater for 😆). I’m aware that this probably sounds mega sad but it will be a proper treat for us as we normally stick to a strict budget each week and try to be really frugal with groceries.

We shop at asda and have a delivery due tomorrow so we’ve said we’ll do it this week but now I have no idea what to order?! I am gluten free and don’t eat much dairy currently due to BFing a baby with cmpa (normally I would be going mad on naice cheeses). Can anyone help me with ideas? So far I’ve got

Serrano ham
Really expensive vegan ice cream
The extra special range of summer berries
Organic eggs
Asparagus
Posh GF bread
Fresh prawns

I should probably make an effort to cobble together some actual meals from this shop 😂 but all ideas welcome. What would you buy?

We have meat await to us from an online butchers every 3 months or so.
Naice ham, lamb burgers, seafood, cheese from the cheese counter. Sun dried tomatoes, olives, peppers. Decent wine, posh crisps, ready made pizzas.

The British Asperagus season is over, you get the ones from Peru now. In my opinion waste of money.

Instead of Serrano ham look for Iberian Ham, more expensive but a lot nicer. Waitrose also does small pork steak with Iberian pork, so good.

Maybe look at a good local butcher for meat. I don't rate Waitrose Ducy organic anymore, especially not their chicken.

Cheese, nice crackers, olives, chutneys - yum!
Nuts, pretzels etc
Yes to nice dips and crisps
Ideally a lemon tart

Thanks everyone for all your fab ideas! Basics asda shop is now ordered for tomorrow afternoon and I’ll be heading down to M&S in the morning 😋 I will definitely pick up the Prosecco there. They are also good for gluten free treats. @TinkysWinky I would kill for a lemon tart as they are my absolute favourite dessert but alas I am yet to find one in any supermarket which is gluten free. I have settled for a Kirstie’s lemon cheesecake instead but IMO nothing is as good as a quality lemon tart with some thick cream and a few raspberries!

I am also definitely going to look for Iberico pork.

Christ I think a holiday would have actually been cheaper tbh 😂

Aberdeen Angus fillet steak, skinny frites and a pot of bearnaise. Bag of watercress optional.

@HappyThursdays

Robinsons do these posh cordials and there's one called crushed lime and mint and it always feels like a proper treat when I get it

M and s have some lovely 3 for £7 deal on little picnic foods like empanadas, olives, sun dried tomatoes. Their red velvet cake is delicious and they have a fantastic plant food section! I also think their curries are really good if you fancy a ping ping!

I love that drink, tastes just like a Mojito!😋

One of my "go-to" treats for special meaIs - gluten and mainly dairy free here too so appreciate the dilemmas - is smoked salmon and cream cheese made with dairy free soft cheese substitute. If that's something you'd have enjoyed normally, I just put the "cheese" in a bowl, add salt and pepper and lemon juice, and fresh dill (or chives, or dried herbs if necessary), mix it all together and taste. Serve on those little rice crackers perhaps, or if you are feeling fancy make a layer of salmon on plastic wrap, spread with the cheese mix and roll up. Freeze for a bit then slice. (We had 4 years of cold Easter and Christmas lunches that had to travel / keep overnight when our eldest was a chorister and this proved popular).

Hope you have a lovely summer.
