I am hosting a bbq tomorrow. there will be 7 adults present. One of veggie (but others will eat veggie food) and also my DM who doesn't eat much.

8 beef burgers + veggie burgers
6 sausages + veggie sausages
Rolls for the burgers and sausages
(Not sure what veggie products are best. Any suggestions?)
Chicken skewers in Moroccan marinade
Halloumi skewers also in Moroccan marinade
Corn on the cob
Basic salad
Moroccan couscous salad
Potato salad
Coleslaw
Relish/cheese slices/beef tomato and iceberg lettuce for the burgers.
Banoffee pie for pudding.

Is that enough? Do I need more burgers/meat/veggie stuff? Thanks!

@MilduraS

The Linda McCartney veggie mozzarella burgers cook really well on a bbq. You can find them in the freezer section.

Yep was about to recommend these! Really lovely burgers. In fact you can't go wrong with Linda Macartney sausages either.

Were new potatoes on your list? They are one of my favourites

@WeAreTheHeroes

I've seen your response to my post and I'm wondering why I bothered.

I'm sorry. I was only addressing your points to show I had given consideration to them.

@Msgiggles30

Personally one burger bap, one sausage bap and one chicken or halloumi would be enough in my circle of friends with all the sides too! You could chuck some wedges in the oven for extras or do some marinated chicken wings.

This.

Unless you have fat friends.

very tight on the sausages and burgers, get more of these. Shocking as it may seem to some, a person may indeed eat 2 burgers if they are available, better have a few spares.

AppleKatie · 30/07/2021 14:58

Confused you need more than 1 sausage per person not less.

I would assume at least 1 of everything for the meat + a few spares. Hopefully you’ll have leftovers which is half the point of a bbq.

That's an admirable list of sides but don't skimp on the meat. Assume 2 burgers and at least 2 sausages per person. You don't have to cook them all if people are getting full. Maybe add some fish as well?

I don't know anyone who would eat two burgers and two sausages as well as all the other stuff. And we like to eat a lot on the whole!

I presume before the meat products on a clean bbq?

A PP is right

People have gave suggestions and youve just replied with ‘I know my guests, People dont eat that much, blah blah

What if someone wants two sausages, and not a burger or anything else?

What them? They either cant or someone has to go without.

Not everyone likes veggie stuff, but let me guess, ‘You know your guests’

Confused

I'm sorry if I have come across as abrupt. I don't mean to. I do know my guests very very well as they are family and I cater for them pretty much every Christmas. This bbq is to make up for the fact we couldn't have them here last Christmas. If I was doing a Christmas dinner I would know exactly what to get based on everyone's likes and dislikes.

I have honestly found it helpful to have had advice on the thread and have adjusted what I have bought accordingly. Thank you to everyone who has posted.

I'd eat 2 burgers and 2 sausages instead of some of the other stuff salad but I'm caniverous like that.

This thread has surprised me too to be honest op.
Your original list would have been fine for my family, a couple may have had 2 sausages but a couple would have none, so it kind of equals itself out. But then I haven’t got a family of particularly keen meat eaters so that may be why. The only thing I’d add would be onions for the burgers and hotdogs and either a tomato, mozzarella and basil salad or water melon, mint and feta salad just to add a bit of colour.

It sounds about right to me but you could always have some extra on standby in the fridge and freeze it after if not needed.

We usually have some crisps, peanuts etc on the side. I'm probably get some ice cream for pudding too, as a side/alternative to the banoffee pie.

Personally I think the amount of food people cook on the bbq is obscene. If you were served all that as a mixed grill in a restaurant then you would be horrified, yet people cook this massive amount of food and end up throwing half of it away.

When we bbq I cook the meat a bit at a time, so I’ll cook the sausages and while people are eating that I might cook burgers/steak/chicken/chops depending on what we’re having, and there is plenty of salad etc to go with it.

I generally ask who wants a burger/steak/chop/kebab/.

I’m more than happy to cook more if people want, but if it doesn’t get eaten then at least it can go in the freezer and doesn’t end up being thrown away.

And don’t get me started on people who feel the need to burn everything as much as possible.

When we have a bbq we eat it like a Buffet, so not like eating in a restaurant at all. Might take all afternoon/evening and have left overs for the next day!

I wouldn’t describe it as obsence but Neondisco does make a point, you would never serve anyone that amount of meat at any other time.
Maybe it’s because barbecues can go on longer than other meals. Or perhaps people just associate barbecues with eating a lot of meat.

I guess if you know your audience it’s a lot easier, but off the back of this thread if you don’t know your audience, going big on meat seems the thing to do.

If you can get the beyond burgers they are the best veggie burgers I’ve found. Tesco’s def sell them. I would have nibbles for while you’re cooking the bbq food. And all the sauces - ketchup, chilli, bbq, Mayo, salad cream, burger sauce. Also cheese slices for the burgers. Have a great time
