TLDR: we are in Cornwall, staying in a caravan with walls so thin I can hear the DC breathing at night. All the pre-planned, booked months ago activities have been cancelled because it won't stop F-ing raining. Everywhere else is rammed or fully booked and wonders why we didn't book months ago Hmm We resorted to taking the children to the cinema on Tuesday, then to an English Heritage place exactly the same as every other English Heritage place that doesn't take me 5 hours to drive to. Today we are at the Eden Project. DD keeps trying to steal leaves and flowers and whining for ice cream. DS just wants a rest or to go on the zip wire,which is fully booked and I didn't pre-book because we did zip wiring last week. I'm allergic to all the rare plants and keep sneezing. All the ice cream is made with weird stuff.

I've paid a grand to live in a caravan, doing things that I could do within an hour of home. I can't wait to go home. I know lots of people are 'going on holiday' by camping under their imaginary dining table this summer but Sad

Glad you had a good last day. I was thinking of you today when I was at marazion kayaking!

Christmasfairy2020 · 31/07/2021 23:35

The best time to go is during the surf competition

Halloaten · 31/07/2021 23:58

I've had a few holidays in England.. all have been shite. We're not bothering last/this year and sticking it all in the pot for the next abroad one. I reckon we'll get to Australia by the time it's all open. I might be 133 by then but at least I'm not in a damp tent in wales

Sorry it’s been rubbish week. I’m Currently on a sailing holiday from hell and have another week to go. Can’t get off the boat as weather was awful (Tender is crap so can’t venture off anywhere even when weather is good). Have paddle board and kayak but the sea state is too rough or winds too strong. Topped off by hatch that keeps leaking water on the bed, no hot water, bickering children, snoring husband (have been awake since 2.30 it’s now 5.30am) and youngest has just wet her bunk. Now have to deal with to lots of soaked bedding with no where to wash anything. Husband wonders why I’m being so grumpy 🙄. It’s my birthday this week and all I want to do is get home now and never go sailing again!

That sounds horrendous roseandbees. Can you jack it in,go home and have a nice meal out for your birthday?

We decided against the UK weather. Flew to Spain. Was very straightforward; was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks OP finally went to sleep. Have nice restaurant booked for Birthday just not sure how to physically get there! It’s a new day and I’m going to have loads of tea and try to come up with a better plan. If that doesn’t work we will go home. Glad the end of your week was good and hope the breakfast on the way home lived up to expectations….

I think the idea of a sailing holiday is my holiday from hell 😬😬 so I feel for you BlowDryRat.

We are off camping in Somerset on Tuesday, the weathers not looking good, I’m sure I will need another holiday to recover.

@Mumdiva99 ......
"My criteria now is the accommodation must be an improvement on my home. In case I am stuck in it."

I like this. I'm going to stick to this going forward. We live by the sea and near moors and it's beautiful. We have a lovely home. I pay for UK holidays and when the weathers awful we just end up thinking we could've stayed at home and been more comfortable without paying 💰 💰 💰💰💰 This is exactly why I live for my holidays abroad. 😭😭

LIZS · 01/08/2021 18:58

I think that is our rule of thumb, or there has to be a compelling difference ie. canalboat or location , specific to the holiday. I'd rather a shorter break in better accommodation.

@alwayscrashinginthesamecar1

These threads always have people suggesting hot chocolate, board games, and going to the beach in the rain (the'-there's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing' brigade). I am glad some people are happy with that kind of thing, but I'm bloody not! I have had my fill of soggy camping holidays, trudging around shit so-called attractions ( I'm looking at you Pencil museum in the Lake District!). Never again! My holidays now have to be in a decent hotel and have guaranteed good weather as an absolute minimum, so I totally sympathise with anyone having a shit time, fingers crossed for you for next year!
Jesus, what did you expect from a “pencil museum” - excitement?
