How to sleep comfortably at night when camping?

Inspired by previous threads - I like camping, we are camping for a whole week this year Shock

How am I going to sleep - 2 nights nearly broke me! What camping equipment should I get?

Currently using selection of roll mats, quilts and a self inflating (tiny) air mattress. I still hurt my hips lying on my side!

I have never slept so well camping as I did this year when we glamped, and the tent had actual beds. Go figure Grin

Reindeer skins are brilliant as wel. Best sleep i ever had was in a hammock on the bosnia montenegro border, covered in reindeer hdes with a sammi sword tucked in my waist cos i was worried about bears/wild war criminals

I think fresh air makes sleep mucch better

10cm SIM, proper pillow, double/extra large sleeping bag each and a fleece blanket!

OP, if your tent can accommodate the height, you need a camp bed like this (can get double ones if sleeping with a partner) www.winfieldsoutdoors.co.uk/outwell-posadas-foldaway-bed-xl/ and on the top you need one of these or similar, the thicker the better www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15910143/outwell-dreamcatcher-single-self-inflating-sleeping-mat-xl-12cm-15910143. We've gone to a trailer tent now which has a proper mattress, but this was our set up for our tent and it was really comfy, and sleeping off the floor meant you didn't get cold!

Definitely a 10cm SIM (pref double just for me). Also an XL square sleeping bag that can be unzipped from the bottom to keep my feet cool while the rest of me stays warm - and then opened up to a duvet when required.

Update: first night of a weekend camping. Used an ancient (!) single air mattress on top of quilt with sleeping bag and blanket, and slept wearing a woolly hat. Much better than the SIM I had used previously.

Thank you all very much for your advice. I will revisit the thread when I am next looking to upgrade!

I use an inflatable mattress with a very high quality self inflating mat on top. Sheet rock hold them together. Revolutionised camping for me as also suffer with hips.

Finessed the set up over the weekend with considerable success. Two 10cm SIMS together with a down coupler. Double Vango sleeping bag, pillow with silk pillowcase, ear plugs, eye mask and small tent for maximum cocoon like feel. Leggings and a hoodie. I slept for eight hours straight which is absolutely unheard of.

Vango Shangri-la 15cm sim with go outdoors beast pod sleeping bag - own standard pillow and a hot water bottle for feet. Seriously as comfortable as home bed!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 26/08/2021 21:59

Only down side is the cost of the sim and the the size of the sim for transporting.

DH bought me a super comfy self inflating mattress, it is brilliant but cost £200 I think.

I stop drinking anything after dinner as I hate nocturnal toilet visits, I take a Boots sleeping tablet and use an eye mask and ear plugs - thankfully this attractive vision puts DH off wanting us to camp together for more than one night Grin.
