What is the ideal weather for the UK do you think?

We moan when it’s too cold, we moan when it’s too wet. But then we moan when it’s too hot!

So what is the ideal weather for the UK?

For me, personally, I would say in the summer around 23-25 degrees would be perfect. Anything hotter than that is too much I think.

I don’t mind cold weather but when we had the “big freeze” a few years ago, lasting into March, that was too cold!!

I like it when you can just go out in what you're wearing iyswim.

I don't want to have to deal with suncream and hats and water bottles.

I don't want gloves and scarves and coats.

I think late spring/early summer and autumn are the best in this regard.

I don't mind the cold though or even the rain. The hot weather can fuck right off.

shumway · 26/07/2021 14:05

I like it about 15 to 20 degrees.

ahoyshipmates · 26/07/2021 14:07

18 - 23 degrees, bright with a few fluffy clouds and a gentle breeze.

20-25 degrees, with a breeze and sunny.

Imapotato · 26/07/2021 14:11

Depends what I’m doing. If I’m on annual leave them 30 is grand. I’ll be at the beach.

If I’m working then 10-20 is preferable.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 26/07/2021 14:11

I'd like 4 distinct seasons. Frosty bright winters, with a bit of a breeze and two days of snow over Christmas. Crisp Autumns, fresh Springs, enough rain (falling at night and moderate in nature), and Summers where the temperature fluctuated excitingly between 20 and 25, occasionally 26.

Having said that I think we're pretty lucky here overall. In lots of countries (including popular ones like the US, Canada, Australia) the weather is almost homicidal.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 26/07/2021 14:11

20 degrees with a gentle breeze.

^ this.

For me, about 19-21° is the ideal temperature. I still wear suncream between April-Sept though, especially on my face, neck and collar bone if I'm going to be outside for any longer than about half an hour (I'm v pale and burn like crazy).

I do like early autumnal days, not too cold, where you're fine to go out with a jumper, jacket and maybe a scarf.

Hate windy weather, regardless of temperature!

adrianmolesmole · 26/07/2021 14:14

19-25 degrees would be perfect for me, thanks

Buckleyourseatbelt · 26/07/2021 14:14

Agree with PP who said who distinct seasons. And summer never needs to be more than 24 degrees. That’s perfect for everything but not exhausting.

FishfingerFlinger · 26/07/2021 14:17

There’s a small sweet spot where it’s comfortable sitting outside in a pub beer garden without getting chilly if the sun goes in, but not so hot that it’s uncomfortable to exert yourself. 21-22degrees is I think my ideal.

EssentialHummus · 26/07/2021 14:26

22 degree please, with rain at least once a week but solid blocks of it, not Ross and Rachel style will-it-won't-it for three days. And none of this "heatwave in March, snow again in April, showers in May, heatwave June, floods" nonsense - I'm trying to grow tomatoes here!

Thanks Grin

EBearhug · 26/07/2021 14:34

I like it changeable. When I went travelling, especially in tropical countries, I got a bit bored with the weather always being warm and dunny. When you wake up in Britain, you never can be sure what the weather is going to be, and if you don't like what it is st the start of the day, there's a good chance ot won't be like that at the end of the day, and certainly not next week. Plus the rain means everything is green, which you really notice when you fly over it.

Chunkymenrock · 26/07/2021 14:43

12-19 degrees for me. I certainly do not ever moan about cold or wet weather. Blazing heat is absolutely unbearable.

transformandriseup · 26/07/2021 14:43

22 degrees, sunny with a light breeze.

Monoxide · 26/07/2021 14:45

15c and cloudy but not raining. The sun gives you wrinkles and I get sick of hiding from it.

Sandsnake · 26/07/2021 14:49

26 or 27 and sunny for me in the summer, with a very gentle breeze - holding the heat into the evening and then miraculously dropping by 15 degrees overnight Grin.

JassyRadlett · 26/07/2021 14:50

You lot are all way too cold for me! 22 with a light breeze? Ugh.

Summer with high temps from 25-28 degrees, with the occasional properly hot day, would do me nicely. If that summer could last the actual length of the season that would be a great improvement on the usual state of affairs.

I will then be resigned to freezing for the other 9 months of the year.

NautaOcts · 26/07/2021 14:50

Yep 22-24 sunshine with a breeze
So you’d be comfortable in jeans and a t shirt

NautaOcts · 26/07/2021 14:51

But I like the variety
We wouldn’t appreciate the sunny days if we always had it

RaraRachael · 26/07/2021 14:53

25 degrees is my perfect temperature in this country. I like the kind of day when you wake up in the morning and know it's going to be beautiful for the rest of the day - like we had yesterday.

Exactly this! It’s such a faff having to sun cream everyone to go for a quick walk/play in the garden. Same as trying to wrestle small children in to puddlesuits/all in ones to keep them dry and warm. Trying to get them to keep gloves and hats on and then they cry because they won’t and are now cold.
So, early summer, autumn, when we can just go out as we are and not worry about getting cold or hot and having to take the associated weather related clothing with us is perfect. Also much easier to keep the house a nice temperature too.
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/07/2021 14:56

Dry heat not above 24 degrees. Cooling off quickly at about 8pm for a nice comfortable night. The key is DRY heat, humidity can feck off.

transformandriseup · 26/07/2021 14:58

You lot are all way too cold for me! 22 with a light breeze? Ugh.

It would be very warm for Cornwall Grin

LadyCatStark · 26/07/2021 15:03

I want: 20-25 degrees with a light breeze and no clouds in summer.
A dry crisp Autumn.
A big dump of snow between 20th-31st December.
A nice sunny spring please.

Basically the opposite of what we actually get.
